Despite its premium postion in Northbridge and promising menu, this this restaurant did not deliver on food or service. The pasta dish was cooked al stodgy, and the chicken could not have been rescued even with a 100 secret herb and spices. The service staff need to ask for their money back from waitess school. Coffee was the only saving grace except for one unlucky person who scored lipstick on his cup and no doubt a cold sore that he will have to explain to his wife. Memorable but for all the wrong reasons.

This lovely restaurant in the heart of northbridge was quite delicious, we sat outside to watch the busy nightlife around us, which set a lovely mood. The food was delicious, the pizza the most authentic tasting since Italy. the Staff were really friendly and available, even busy they didn’t leave us waiting for long periods of time. Prices were reasonable, I would definately go back if I was in the area

This place was sorely disappointing. A small group of us ventured here for dinner last night in-between Fringe Festival shows. Everything started off alright. We were seated outside along the strip and Waitress #1 was quick to take our drink and orders. Waitress #2 served our drinks & appetizers and that’s when things started to go downhill. The fried calamari was so greasy, the batter was sliding off. And at the bottom of the plate was a layer of oil. Might want to consider putting them on some paper to soak up the oil prior to serving. Just a suggestion. Then came our mains. My two friends who ordered the risotto were served first. They wanted to wait until we all had our food before eating. About 5+ minutes later, another two main dishes came out(the lamb cutlets and the steak for my other two friends). We continued waiting for my pork belly dish. I told everyone to start eating before everything got cold. We couldn’t get the attention of Waitress #1 or #2 about my meal so hailed down Waitress #3. She went off to check and never came back with an answer. Waitress #1, who took our orders, finally walked past our table and never even glanced in our direction to see that I didn’t have my food. She did swing by to fill up our wine glasses though. Finally my friend went inside the restaurant to speak to someone and apparently my pork belly had«vanished». Yes VANISHED. Into thin air. Like David Blaine when he does his magic. They told my friend they’ll make a new one up now. No apology was given. When Waitress #2 finally served my meal over 15 minutes after everyone else’s, she didn’t even apologize. Just set the food down and walked away. My friends were pretty much done with theirs and I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. For the record, the risotto my friends had was very average in taste and watery. On the upside, my friend who ordered the lamb cutlets said the steamed broccoli that accompanied his lamb was perfectly steamed. LOL. After I was done, Waitress #4 came by to grab our plates and asked if everything was ok. We all said«No» and explained to her what happened with my meal. She flashed a smile and said in her thick accent, «Oh really?» and proceeded to walk away. WTF??? Even when paying the bill, my friend mentioned it again and the guy at the cashier just smiled and offered no apology. It’s great when all the wait staff have strong Italian accents but not so much when they use that as an excuse to not understand what you’re trying to tell them. Simply smiling at me doesn’t cut it. Never again.

Stopped by this Italian restaurant during the week for an evening dinner and I must say it was an good experience considering it was all very last minute and we were a ‘walk in’. Positano sits on the main strip a few paces from the Cinema Paridiso and Northbridge Piazza. The tables spill out onto the foot path, similar to what you would expect in Europe. We sat in the corner alongside the street and even though it is winter we were kept warm by the heater nearby. On a Wednesday night, Northbridge has a slightly different atmosphere and I like it! It is not as busy and there are a lot less clubbers around. The restaurant across the road had a band playing jazz music and our table was in direct view of the musical scene. Service was fantastic. We shared a pizza, the Hot Casanova($ 25.00) which consisted of chillis, salami, cheese and mushrooms. The dough was soft and of medium thickness, would have been nice with more toppings though. The beer menu offered a range of beers and we went with a Croatian beer. The sparkling range was mainly Yellowglen. It would have been nice to see an Italian Proscecco on the menu. There are also Croatian spirits too.

After checking many restaurants around James St. we decided to go to Positano. Reasons: 1. Pizza is cooked on a wood fire oven(where the restaurant in front does not). 2. They had a special on $ 16 for any pasta or pizza. 3. Close to the cinema Paradiso where we were heading Staff was very friendly both waiter and waitress were from Italy. Entrée we had the bruschetta, nice bread, fresh tomatos, It needed a bit of salt and more olive oil but was nice, and for main the Positano pizza(mozzarella, prosciutto, anchovy and rocket) and was pretty good. My partners carbonara was lacking sauce for my liking but was perfect for her because she is not a big fan of huge amount of white rich sauce. Very happy with the $ 16 pasta/pizza special.

Positano is always thronged on a Friday and Saturday evening — the best sign to determine if a restaurant is worthwhile or not! Through the open front windows you can see that the inside tables are busy, but none as full of happy eaters as the tables outside on the street — a wonderful place to be if you can manage to wrangle yourself a table! The atmosphere is friendly and informal. It’s full of people chatting and catching up with their mouths full! I would definitely recommend their chilli mussels for starters. Their pasta options are less than inventive — there are no gourmet ingredients here, they stick to the old italian script, but what they lack in inventiveness they make up for in flavour. I’m a seafood freak so I usually follow the chilli mussels with the linguini marinara and it is delightful.
