I’ve been to Hogs breath several times, a few times this one even so when Indy and I were looking for a good place that was close to cinema paradiso and a place where I was confident we would be in and out of relatively quickly I suggested here. So disappointed, nothing about the place was enjoyable tonight in my opinion. Indy did say hers wasn’t bad. So maybe luck if the draw lol. We were seated quite some time before our orders were taken and then we received our steak sandwiches after people who had ordered after us again after quite a long wait. I’m a fussy eater and the one thing they got right was my order which was good and the curly fries which I’m not normally a fan of were tasty. They obviously cut their own bread and in my case the bread was very thinly sliced(this hasn’t been the case from past experiences) and it was toasted only on one side and the side it was toasted on would only just past as being toasted. The steak, beetroot and cheese were all fine. I don’t think I’ll be back at this Hogs breath for a while. Quite disappointed as like I said earlier I’ve been here before, ordered the same and loved it.

Wowza! It’s funny how as people evolve, certain things change and taste buds change… My hubby and I used to love coming to hogs breath café(ever so much, we had a frequent diner card) I must say, the service remains prompt and friendly… And so obliging, and the meal itself still tasty and full of Flavour. We had the ribs and steak, curly fries and salad. Unfortunately the 18hr slow cooked steaks were not available as they were sold out. That speaks volume on popularity that evening. Great place for young families. Very kid-friendly which is plus! Reasonable prices! Plenty of alcohol on offer. Beer and cocktails, mocktails and standard soft drinks and juices. Come down and bring the family. Great service and huge meals.

They make a mean steak but the service and sides are not up to scratch. I got a steak and the side was a bunch of broccoli plain mash corn on the cob and ketchup. You don’t need to add ketchup on the plate if there’s a sauce. Really nice steak though over priced.

I was really quite disappointed with Hog’s Breath as I hadn’t been there before and was excited to get some yummy comfort food into me to cure my hangover! We went for a family lunch as it is in the Entertainment Book but unfortunately most of the group weren’t happy with their meals. I had the Cheeseburger in Paradise which was actually pretty good, so no massive complaints from me, but my Nana’s steak and vegies were cold and my husbands parmigiana left a lot to be desired. They hadn’t even melted the cheese on top of the chicken, it was just a sprinkling of parmesan! The service was great though, although she forgot to put our drinks order through so we didn’t get them until after our food, but she was very apologetic and very friendly. Even with the voucher we still spent $ 25 and for what we got, it wasn’t worth it(even if $ 25 doesn’t seem like much). I don’t think I will be going back sadly.

When in doubt on what you want to eat Hog’s Breath Café is a sure win, if I want to have Steak, Garlic Prawns and Ribs in one meal without being stared at like I am eating for two, this is the place to go! Take yourself back to younger years, when it was though that a fruit tingle was the supremo cocktail ha ha but they have that too! The environment is old school, show cases movie greats and décor as if you went back in time as soon as you stepped through the doors. Really cheery staff, which is always good! I can guarentee you will be rolling out of there.

I was definitely hoping for better as I didn’t think Hog’s Breath deserved such a low overall rating. Tamara is right, it isn’t fancy but nor is it trying to be. It is positioned to offer affordable big blokey sized meaty meals in an American style steak house. While I couldn’t fault the table service, unfortunately my food was under par. I had the very well priced cajun beef salad lunch special for $ 9.90 — but the beef was too dry and the salad was small. I did order the curly fries as I suspected the salad would not be enough, and they were dripping in oil. I think this may have been an unlucky irregular occurrence. I tossed up between two or three stars. The tipping points were the friendly, efficient service and the fact that two wines, a beef salad and a side serve of curly fries came to $ 34. Practically unheard of in Perth.

Despite the other reviews — I actually have the biggest soft spot for Hogs Breath. Sure it isn’t fancy — but it doesn’t try to be. It’s a fun place with a huge menu and big servings. The prices are reasonable and I can appreciate some real comfort food. The waitress’s are giggly and friendly — they all have a very happy attitude and they are always attentive. The menu grows each time I visit — they now have gyoza’s? which is a bit surprising as the rest of the menu is real rich cheesy and the naughty food I crave. Perhaps adding some healthier options to the menu — I spotted a chicken and avo burger and salad added as well! The curly fries are my favorite(most meals come with the fries or salad). I love to dip my fries in cheese sauce. They always have huge solid burgers. I had a crispy chicken burger, which I loved. My friend had a chilli con carne quesadilla which was soooo juicy and tasty. If I was trying to be healthy or fancy, I wouldn’t come here to be honest. But everynow and then you just need to relax and just indulge in some tasty naughty cheesy food at Hogs Breath. And the Missippi mud cake is also what you expect — moist and fudgy with cream and sauce. I enjoy hogs breath moreso than outback jacks — where you can get a good steak but everything else on the menu falls flat. Hogs breath always leaves me happy and full like the piggy in their logo.

For anyone that’s interested, Hog’s Breath are currently running a promotion where you get a steak(lite cut) and a starter OR dessert for about $ 23(just under from memory). I thought it was actually pretty good value for money — then when you add in a soft drink — not a bad dinner outing for $ 25. Yes, the selection of steaks is relatively limited and yes, the selection of starters or desserts is relatively limited but they had an appealing selection and in all honesty, I didn’t even look at the rest of the menu. One thing I did want to mention after my experience at Hog’s Breath the other evening was the unfortunate incident of the waiter returning to the table to inform myself and my dinner companions that they had run out steak. How very… awkward. For a steak house. Anyway, they offered an alternate cut of meat which I agreed to(I was already of the mindset of having to eat some meat) and chose the salt and pepper calamari. Personally, I’d have preferred my calamari to have less soggy. Or not soggy at all — if possible. I got the feeling that these starters had been prepared well before hand and then reheated before serving. When the steak came out, it was«ok». I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. I would have preferred my steak to not have been covered entirely with sauce too. Lesson learned for me there too [Pro tip: Ask for the sauce separately]. Service was good and the staff were very attentive and accommodating. Price for the meal was probably reasonable, but given the circumstances and the fact that they had run out of steak that formed the foundation of the special that they were marketing… that’s probably more of a restaurant management issue than anything else. I’d consider going elsewhere before returning to Hog’s Breath. But if anyone’s interested, I think the offer ends at the end of March.

Went here for a steak, as you do but it was warm and the veggies cold. Seriously that is NOT acceptable. I wanted to complain but I didnt want to spoil our night. On a good note the service was amazing, as they say they are known for their hogspitality but I would rather remember them for the meal.

I have mixed feelings on Hog’s Breath Café. I came here for dinner last night and I left not knowing whether or not I would return. Here are some of the positives: — The staff are extremely friendly, patient and helpful. The menu is pretty extensive and I hadn’t eaten here before so I was taking quite a long time to make a decision, even on what drinks we wanted to start with. Our poor waiter had to come back three times to ask if we were ready and was very understanding each time we turned him away! He was equally as helpful throughout our meal — The menu is extensive. There are so many things to choose from, and so many things that sound amazing that it’s tough to pick just one — The portions are beast! And I’m not just talking about the food. They state in the menu that their measure of a glass of wine is 180ml, whereas it is 100ml in most other establishments. There’s nothing worse than ordering a glass of wine and realising you might as well have ordered a bottle because the glass is almost gone after one sip! But at Hog’s Breath you get almost double a standard measure so you’re winning! — The drinks list. They have an extensive drinks list — beer, wine, cocktails etc. The wine list in particular is great value — all the bottled wine is reasonable enough, but what’s really great is you can get a carafe(1 litre) of tasty Brown Brothers dry white for under $ 20! Sweet! — The Hog’s Tail fries. Curly fries are always fun and these ones are particularly tasty! — They had festive Christmas crackers on the table. Since I don’t even have a tree up at home(and probably won’t have because no one in my apartment has a car to go buy one) it was a welcome piece of festivity. Now to the negatives: — The name. Is there anything less appetising than imagining a pig’s breath when you’re trying to enjoy your meal? — While the food is tasty, it’s tasty in a really bad for you kind of way. We shared the finger food combo for starter — calamari, stuffed potato skins, chicken tenders, spring rolls and dips. While there’s no doubt it was tasty(the chilli stuffed potato skin was my favourite), everything on the platter was literally dripping in grease. Seems like there’s no grilling here, it’s all fried fried fried! — Bad cuts of meat. For a steak house there isn’t really a quality selection of meat cuts. It’s basically sirloin, rump or rib steak. I’m a bit of an elitist when it comes to steak, I only really like eye fillet — the meat is tender and there is no fatty rind. I ordered what I thought would be the nearest thing on the menu — the rib steak fillet, and even ordered it rare(instead of medium rare) to make sure it would be tender. I was sorely disappointed. What came out on my place was probably 20% fatty rind attached to a stringy and tasteless steak. I had to order some ketchup to try to liven it up a bit. The ‘salad’ it came with was just some dry cucumber and shredded carrot. The only saving grace was the Hog’s tail fries! So take from that what you will!
