Fantastic spot!!! Tucked away neatly in an ally way, this spot has really become a little gem for us. The food is so good and the place is always busy, which means it’s attendance speaks for itself… It’s definitely a must try for lunch, The only negative I have, it gets quite busy and cramped, so if you can deal with that then there’s no issue …

The seafood donburi is very big portioned. But when it came to the table the fish slices were wet and dripping in this rather dodgy fishy liquid, which made me question the freshness of the whole affair. Not a big of salad on rice, but it is quite tasty. Not the best seafood donburi I’ve ever had, but it certainly didn’t last. The grilled salmon sushi was absolutely amazing though! Just the perfect amount of cooked and raw, the sauce went quite well with the fish too! Definitely recommend!

Cute little Japanese venue. Menu is large which make me want to try everything. Big portion, great value. We had the sushi roll with tempura prawn which is good. Scallop sushi taste fresh. I like their Yaki Udon which is a stir fried udon noodles with some vegs and meat, full of flavor. Grilled Salmon sushi is my favorite, a must try. On the downside, the Eel don we ordered was a bit disappointed, which the rice was not fully cooked. I will go back to try other dishes.

The food is very good here, and it’d be difficult to find a better value in Perth. The only downside are the lines. I had a bento. There was enough food to feed a small country. Everything in the bento was delicious — the gyoza, the spring roll(they’re very willing to substitute for food allergies), the sashimi, the grilled salmon, the salad, the maki, not to mention the beef teri main course. The staff is very nice, service is quick even if the food isn’t(small kitchen, big crowd).

Quick service, reasonably priced for lunch. It’s open seating so can get chilly on a cold weather day like today

Finally! Japanese as it should be! Is Donburi is just what I have been searching for – satisfying, flavorful, light and convenient. I left lunch feeling great! Hungry after an afternoon of shopping in the city, we stopped by Is Donburi for a quick lunch on our way home. There are two choices of seating: tables in the alleyway adjacent to the restaurant or inside the restaurant. We grabbed a table with benches near the kitchen – we were lucky to get a seat! The gyozas only come fried – no steamed option. Lightly fried, the gyozas were savoury and tasty without being heavy. A great starter! My main course was the salmon teriyaki on rice with a vegetable salad. This is what I have been searching for! Quick, convenient, healthy and satisfying. I left feeling great. We inquired about a take-out menu, but they did not have one on hand. We will be back, however. It’s great to have a reasonably priced, tasty Japanese place nearby!

This little Japanese restaurant is fantastic value. You can grab a takeaway handroll from the front counter for just $ 3! All fillings are the same price, and they have great options. I love the prawn roll, and the plain avocado is a favourite too. If you choose to dine in, the menu is extensive. Fresh and light flavours abound, with salads that are generous and filling.

Fast, friendly, polite service and very generous serves of good, hearty food in a great location. I’m a bit of a spice fiend, so Japanese food is not my greatest love; however, Is Donburi is definitely a cut above.

Its the most affordable and tastiest Japanese you’ll find in the Perth CBD/Northbridge area. Is Donburi is my go-to place for reliable, tasty and filling sushi and Japanese! They have got so many options and the prices are great. Service is always nice and friendly however on the weekends they tend to get full pretty quickly so try avoiding rush hours — it delays food service quite noticeably(especially if your ordering a sashimi platter!!) I would highly recommend the Chef’s tasting platter(salmon and sashimi), dancing crab, IS volcano rolls and If your on the go they’ve got a great deal for you too — 2 rolls of sushi & a bottle of water for $ 8!

I have been wanting to go to Is Donburi for ages, especially after reading all the raving Unilocal reviews. I finally got to visit this place the other day, but unfortunately I was in a really big rush so I could only get the take away sushi but it was so good and so cheap! It was only $ 8 for three sushi rolls and they were so filling I could only eat two and had to save the other one for later! In particular the chilli chicken sushi roll was so tasty! I had a quick look at the sit down menu and it looks amazing– will have to come back here when I have more time for lunch!

For all the Sushi addicts and Japanese lovers! This place ticks all the boxes. Haven’t been disappointed and always something new to try. I usually am on the go so the 2 x sushi rolls at a low cost of $ 6 works well for me! — Fills me up completely and satisfies all my cravings. Their sushi rolls range from the usual Californian to the unusual. Spring roll in a sushi. They also do vegetarian choices with beetroot, YUM! It gets super busy during lunch — it’s a small funky place where you can dine in. The service can be slow at times but definitely worth the wait! They have various main meals to choose from, particularly enjoy their Bento box sets, tofu is a good choice. Highly recommend this place — delicious, convenient and affordable!

No.7 on my hit parade to try ten places I’ve not been to before was Is Donburi. Very fast, fresh, tasty and plentiful. My only regret is that they were out of Kingfish, so I chose the tuna sashimi instead. My dining colleagues loved their teriaki chicken and vegetarian udon bowls. Neither could finish them. Great value and typical friendly, sweet service.

This is a great little restaurant, sit either inside or outside, the food will be great served by charming staff and cooked by someone very skilled in the back. Do indulge, I had the a chicken donburi with egg, but if I could I would’ve kept on going through the menu. ‘nough said.

Wonderful! Cute little place, clean and comfy. Friendly staff. BYO Menu is broad! Seafood chirasi is one of the better I’ve had! Fresh seafood, salad with good sauce, seaweed, ginger. Big meal but that is ’cause it’ s packed with rice(I left more than half the rice and green salad) and I still was stuffed as a pig :-P. Miso soup is included and tastes GoOD! The Unagi chirashi is to die for! Meaty bits with an amazing sweetish sauce plus tofu and crab with the same salad as in the seafood chirashi and a whole bunch of rice. Nice kimchi. It seems as though that whatever you choose it’s fresh and very tasty. And it’ s all cheap, which shows that you can have a 5 star meal to a very good price! I noticed other guests order sushi rolls and the rolls where ginormous(is that good or bad?!) but they looked amazing and very tasty! I’ll have to come back and try… and try I will!

Is Donburi Is Good This place proved to be great food for pretty reasonable pricing for dinner last night. We had the soft shell crab and tuna served in clam shells for shared entrees and then shared for a chicken and egg donburi mains(Were still full from a pub meal earlier in the day) The meal ended up costing under $ 20 per person but I am assuming would have been more realistically at $ 25 each if we both had a mains. Customer service was great and to be fair so was the food. No complaints in either department. It was actually quiet impressive. We were even advised of a possible wait for food during a busy period. My only gripe albeit a minor one would be the outdoor seating. Call it how you will. I think when you lean back on the outdoor seating provided at the tables it is unfortunately quiet comfortable prompting most people sitting outside to hunch forward like some sort of Quasimodo. All in all a cool place to eat for a decent price. Try and get a spot inside. Better seats there.

Judging only from the fit out I was a little bit unsure of Is Donburi at first. But as soon as the first plate of food arrived, my fears were proven to be unfounded. We tucked into the sashimi salad and it was fresh and delicious. Each bit of raw fish was plump and straight off the back off a boat. Resting on a bed of lettuce and seaweed, it’s covered in your choice of an apple or apple and chilli sauce. Thinking the sashimi salad wouldn’t be enough food for lunch(it was) we ordered some of the Terriyaki tofu which was equally as scrumptious. The tofu was almost slightly caramalised and crispy on the outside with a scattering of ground chilli sprinkled on top. Mmmmm I want some again right now! They also do spring roll sushi, which is exactly what it sounds like, a deep fried spring roll inside a sushi roll. It had been described to me as a ‘taste explosion’, and though I love the creative idea I’d prefer a tempura prawn in there instead. Oh and $ 3 sushi rolls — cheapest lunch/dinner ever? I think so.
