Planet café I love this little café, it’s so quirky and great music and the graffiti art is amazing ! From the outside it looks so small but it is massive inside, the food is so fresh and has lots of flavors, the juices are great as we’ll. It’s In a perfect location. I would of giving it a 5 but I had to wait quite a while for my food and it took longer for my friend cause they forgot her order ‚ but other than that I will always keep coming here for its awesome place that it has becoming :)

I gave them 5 chances and all of them failed to amuse me. Shall I start from the beginning? I’ll just do some which made me regret coming back the most. Warning: Coarse Language EPISODE1 After a tiring day at Uni, I decided to go here a week after the opening. Stepping in, I expected this place to be at least good. Let’s not talk about the decoration because I was dying to have a bedroom full of vintage posters so I hate them for that! My friend ordered«Sausages & Eggs» and came without the sausage. I ordered a eggs on toast and came with only 1(cut in half) piece of toast. Well, for $ 12 I wanted to have a more filling breakfast! She asked the staff where the sausages were and they replied with«Oh yes the chef said we ran of out sausages,» and did a blank stare at her. She was hoping at least the girl would offer her something else, but she didn’t. She walked back behind the counter and start giggling and shit with her workmate. But that’s not it, because our drinks never arrived. So I had to raise my hand and asked for it. But what’s on my table was an iced coffee, not iced mocha. When I told her that’s not what I ordered, guess what she said… «No we don’t do iced mocha.» Yesss… Ladies and Gentlemen, she just said it. What the actual fuck. I thought I had enough, but I also didn’t want to be that annoying customer who complains too much! So I asked her nicely, «Do you do hot mocha?» «Yes we do,» she replied. «So you can do hot mocha but you can’t do cold mocha? Why did you have it on the menu then?» «Oh is it? Ok I’ll make it then.» she took my glass and poured chocolate sauce into it. OH. MY. GOD. It’s not hard, but I had to do it because I intended to annoy her that time. After walking out, my friend and I thought of burning that place down to the ground. Because the total came up to $ 58.90 for 2 breakfast, 1 iced mocha and 1 orange juice. It also took the breakfast 30 mins, which was way too long considering we were the only customers in there. EPISODE2 Let’s make this quick. I was on my work break, I wanted a babycinno. I was the first to line up. I was(again) the only customer waiting for coffee that time because those sitting on the table were already sipping theirs. Guess how long it took this guy to make my babycinno. 12 fucking minutes. Why? He was having a chat with a friend who didn’t work there, but while doing that, he also stopped working. That’s why. I had two cigarettes, and it still wasn’t there. Maybe I am a very bad person, that’s why I had a really bad experience. But I don’t think if I was to become a better person this place would be better too.

Breakfast menu is amazing, lots of variety and the produce tastes fresh. Great ambience and nice coffee too. A very ‘mount lawley’ hot spot. Staff are attentive and the décor makes the whole dining experience pleasant. Eggs cooked to perfection :)

disgusting food. I went there last night(wednesday) and ordered a seafood tasting plate and a normal tasting plate. the seafood tasting plate consisted of 2 prawns, squid in some revoulting citric juice, 1 scallop and a huge pile of raw salmon. The tasting plate was another huge pile of raw salmon, lots of crusty bread, patte and onion jam. No variety, not much to really taste apart from raw salmon. We also got jamalaya(i think thats how it was spelt) which was another letdown, a bowl of undercooked rice with no flavour whatsoever, 2 prawns, a small amount of chicken and sausage. Definately would not reccomend it. The café is cool, awesome artwork everywhere just such a shame about the crap food. Service is average.

Stopped in for a quiet coffee and there is a lot to be said about getting your coffee in a mug it just tastes better well to me anyway.

Nice spot to chill, friendly service, reasonable prices, ok drinks. Went here on a Wednesday night, the place was fairly quiet which is what we were chasing. We sat outside down the the back which was pleasant in the nice summer evening. The staff served us at our table and were friendly. We just had coffee’s, they were fine, but nothing special. The Daily Planet was a great place to chill away from the more crowded late night coffee destinations. I can see us coming back here again for that same chilled vibe.

Interesting, spacious indoor seating that had artwork and books, with a nice patio in the back. The iced chocolate had far too much ice, not enough ice cream and not enough chocolate. But the staff was friendly and reliable.

This place is cute and I’m a fan of the novelty good sizes mugs if coffee(I’m easily amused), and happy to finally get a coffee in a mug! I’m getting a little sick of paying $ 6 for a coffee in an espresso glass… I had the Eggs Benedict for breakfast and the best thing about it was the pulled ham hock, absolutely delish. The egg was poached perfectly and it wasn’t smothered in hollandaise so I’m a fan. I’ll definitely be heading back and maybe next time for dinner!

As we all know the Daily Planet received the worst reputation when it first opened. So to see if things had changed I decided to take a friend down & share a couple of dishes for lunch. Service: As expected, there were alternative looking waitresses and a trendy vibe in the café. It was quiet so our order was taken quickly… but that’s where the thumbs up ended. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for our selection of food, we asked a waitress(the staff seemed friendly) to check how much longer it would be, & upon her return our food appeared. Food: *Lemon & herb crumbed homemade ricotta w’ spicy tomato relish $ 6.50 [Very bland. Taste of nothing & a little oil. Came with aioli rather than spicy tomato relish. Without the dipping sauce it would have had no flavour. The crumb needed to be seasoned & flavoured, but only cost $ 6.50] *Chicken Ham & Pineapple Slider — Roast chicken, smoked ham hock, gruyère & pineapple jam w’ shoesting fries $ 8.50 [Not too bad. The shoesting fries were something different. Really enjoyable.] *Balsamic onion arancini, stilton aioli $ 10.50 [Interesting. A little burnt. Tasted a bit like mushroom risotto.] *Vegan Stack — Chickpea fritter, field mushroom, avocado, slow roasted tomatoes, salsa verde & tofu aioli $ 16.50 [Tasty, but forgettable(as quoted by the friend I was sharing this meal with).] The food looked good, but the flavours weren’t anything memorable. It wasn’t terrible, but nothing I would come running back for. The highlight for me was actually the dressing on all of the salad sides. What I have learnt about Beaufort Street(Mount Lawley /Highgate) is that there are no ‘hidden gems’, you get what you pay for. Summary: When it comes to tapas, forgo the Daily Planet & head a little further down the street… It’s worth forgoing 1 dish elsewhere or paying a little more for the quality & flavour. *Since then I have returned once for weekend brunch which was also unfortunently quite disappointing.

I agree with all the other Unilocalers, this place is a great spot to meet someone for a coffee or a co-working session(hello free WiFi) due to it’s killer location, fit out, and great coffee. I do feel there is a little something missing in terms of food and service though.

Friendly staff, décor is nice. Not a dinner venue and the portion size and flavours are off.

A gf and I went there to check it out last night. The décor is nice and welcoming, it was quite cold though as the doors and windows were wide open… we had some hot chocolates and portugese tarts served with cream… The portuguese tarts with cream were amazing, small but we really enjoyed them. the hot chocolates were drinkable but in tiny glasses — that you would expect for a macchiato not a hot chocolate… would have been nicer if they were actually ‘hot’ chocolates too. For $ 18 i’m not sure it’s great value for money… I would maybe go there again — but would try something different form their menu instead…

This place is the new edition to the Planet family. This cool little shop has a lot to offer. Everyones expectations where pretty high for this place, just because of how brilliant the rest of the family are. I wasn’t as impressed as what I thought, but still pretty grand. I had a really good coffee the breakfast menu was just amazing. I had some amazing poached eggs on toast, made to perfection and only $ 10! So impressed.

The Planet is a much loved part of Beaufort St Mt Lawley. In recent years they just keep adding on different things. Now you walk into a book store to find books, music, movies, clothes and a café. It looks the part with the floorboards and modern furniture, exposed bricks and an industrial edge. The menu looks great. But what lets this place down is the service. It wasn’t particularly busy when I wandered in, at around 11.30 I had beat the lunch time rush. However, it took forever for my order to arrive at the my table. The coffee was good, the food great, but it just took too long. Not the place to go to if you are very hungry or in a hurry. If you are after a leisurely meal, than you will be fine.

All I can say is — epic. This store is so monolithic, it just keeps going and going and when you think it’s about to stop, a ladies clothing section appears out of thin air! But seriously, I didn’t realise the whole thing was one store. I walked in to the book shop in the centre, which looks great. Very busy, people everywhere, some couches to sit at and read if you want. Then I passed into the video section, which had an impressive array of DVDs(even containing an animé Berserk that is often hard to find), then this passed into another section of the store that had clothes, accessories, some speakers, vintage radios, records and Cd’s. Then when walking back to the bookstore I noticed that there was a café on the end a well, so after all the exciting things I found I decided to grab a bite to eat. The atmosphere itself is astonishing, with so much to see and so many people passing in and out of the shops, the service all over was fantastic and friendly. Still, I’m not entirely sure how the shops interlock. I’m treating them as one mega store. Bad ass.

I’m not sure if this café — an addendum to the Planet Film /Music /Books business — has had its laidback staff poached from behind the counter next door and graduate to waitpersons here, but the service in this place is very, very slow. Sure, the café contingency of the Planet business hasn’t been open long, but with business next door having proven such a consistent success, there oughtn’t be excuses for management to get the food/beverage/hospitality thing together here. Still, the tea here is pretty good. But since even the order took so long, we opted out of a full meal. Perhaps its some sort of upselling conspiracy, trying to get customers to place their orders then go next door to browse through DVDs, CDs, etc?

Daily Planet is the most recent extension of the Planet monopoly. Planet’s shining reputation for cool has already brought in an army of eager customers, ready to sample how Planet tastes. I tried it out on their first weekend of business and geez the staff were really under the pump. The manager is still working his way around the till so orders were a little stifled. In the kitchen, they were inundated with orders so our meals took some time too. So, the service was pretty damn slow but hey, they’re sill finding their feet so I cut them some slack. The food was great. I ordered the egg white omelet; a light and tasty brunch which comes with 3 sides of your choice. An additional side is $ 1, even for premium smoked salmon; very good value if you compare it to The Beaufort St Merchant down the road, who are charging $ 7 for the same thing. The barista has skills too, with my soy cappuccino tasting the way it should. The décor? I’m a little torn. Rugged brick dominates the walls and random items of worldly travels are strewn throughout. I get the look they’re going for, and I think it fits well with the rest of Planet, but like the service, I think it needs to be ‘broken in’ a little to get that desired timeworn look.

A few years ago I remember catching a bus from the city, as it drove through Mt Lawley, before I even knew it existed, I saw a little sign that read«Daily Planet» my hand reached out to press the stop button as my comic-book loving heart started racing, I noticed though that the actual building was empty. I was so intrigued, had it just closed? Was it opening something up? Was it going to start making papers? Would Clark Kent come and visit? I was so overwhelmed… then life distracted me and I pretty much forgot all about it. I came to know the streets of Mt Lawley well, and became a regular at Planet Video and Planet Books. And then recently a little café name Daily Planet on the side of Planet Books opened up. A massive realisation light bulb lit up in my head as I recalled that rainy day I first saw the sign. I wandered through the wall in Planet Books to the café, with its exposed brick and industrial trimmings. I looked at their menu, which serves up a mean looking breakfast and ordered a takeaway flat white and sipped the delicious coffee as I perused through the books next door. The staff seemed friendly, but as a newly opened café it is pretty busy so they are generally rushing about. It is a place I’ll definitely be returning to and hopefully can grab a good spot to read a newly purchased novel and have a good egg white omelette.
