Rodney’s Bait ‘N’ Tackle

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. This bar has become my respected and loved local. The décor is very unique, to the point that every element either comes from a boat or from the sea. I could understand what took so long for this bar to open when I first saw it. This is not themed with kitsch in mind, it just works.
Although the food menu is quite small, they change the offerings regularly (menu always includes a homemade pie) and provide all you need to snack on with your local brew. They have an extensive wine list which includes some reasonably priced prosecco and cabernet sauvignon. Whoever chooses the live music, does a fabulous job and ranges from live jazz bands and rock bands to quartets singing sea shantys. This bar oozes atmosphere and welcomes locals as well as those who travel to try it. Nice work!

Is it too cheesy? No way, they’ve done a great job of making a theme bar work and walk the fine line of kitsch and substantial. You walk in off busy Stirling highway and get transported into a florida keys bar from days gone by. The staff seemed a bit unorganised, but friendly and they’d only opened recently when we visited. Great décor and a cool vibe with fun, lazy music. Put it this way: I’d estimate that if you’re a fan of bars like Mojos, you’ll like Rodney’s.
My only gripe is that it’s too popular and it’d be great if no one discovered it! We need more bars like this in the area, cross your fingers and it might happen.

Very cool neighbourhood bar. The bar was a boat. Food is delicious and speedy bar staff. Something new in Perth, must go!

A very kitsch set up. Boating paraphernalia adorns the walls. The place has a cozy pub feel to it like it’s always been there despite only opening a couple of weeks ago. Great range of tap beer for the beer lover, a deceivingly large courtyard out the back (if smoking is your thing) and gourmet meat pies in the bain marie. Unfortunately they can’t make a good cocktail my «Old Fashioned» was the strangest tasting I’ve ever had. However I won’t be holding it against them and will be returning for beers again soon. Excited to have a new unpretentious (who gives a f#$! about cocktails) small bar in the neighborhood!
