As others have said, this is a takeaway sushi roll shop which offers a similar range to what you’d find all over Melbourne CBD. The difference is the fantastic quality, generous size and the unbelievably low price of $ 2 per roll, regardless of filling. Yes, whether it’s simple vegetables right through to beef or avocado, they’re all the same price. There are a few eat in tables, and they provide free iced water if you’re eating in, although most customers were just grabbing a couple of rolls as takeaway. I noticed the rolls were being made fresh behind the counter to replenish anything that was running low. I expect due to the high turnover, most rolls would have been made recently. Unlike some places which make them in bulk in the morning then store them in fridges all day. For good, cheap sushi in Melbourne, skip the food courts and head over to Tokui. You won’t be disappointed.

Sushi — pretty standard and all the same right? Wrong… I wanted to try somewhere different as places near where I work are either over priced(up to $ 2.80 per roll!), wanting in quality(light on the fillings or gristly meat), or both. Unilocal led me here and I’m glad it did — very fast service, even during the busy lunch period; a better selection; fresh — new rolls were being replenished as I queued; good quality; and all for $ 2 per roll! You can’t go wrong!

I’m new to sushi eating but this place is by FAR my favourite and the only place I go to now. Huge rolls with a lot of filling for 2.00? Honestly, if you love sushi or are looking to try some, go here!

Used to come here everyday for lunch when I lived in Melbourne & worked in the CBD… Cheap & fresh sushi! Lots of meat & avocado in their rolls… all only $ 2 each! Nice staff & unlimited free tea, if you dine in! Great value — this tiny little shop is a hidden gem.

I don’t know anywhere else in this city of high prices where you can get decent-sized(and fresh!), basic(avocado) sushi rolls for 2-bucks! I had yet another hankering today for quick sushi, and this little storefront popped out to me en route to Harvey Norman CBD. Everything in the small glass display fronting the sidewalk looked very fresh, and neatly set out. I ordered the basic avocado roll, along with a tofu one($ 2.00 ea.), and both were very good and exceptionally priced. For the two of us, with two rolls each, along with a side container of pickled seaweed, and an orange soda, came out to an incredibly cheap $ 12! In short, if I’m feeling hungry and am downtown, you can bet that I’ll be popping back into Tokui Sushi!!! :D

My favourite sushi place in Melbourne! Always fresh and delicious and only $ 2! Staff are always super nice. I probably go 5 days a week. Can’t imagine ever tiring of it. :)

Definitely the best sushi for this price, every roll for $ 2 and cheep cans of soda. Always fresh sushi. I’d recommend the prawn, so good! One of the best hidden sushi places in Melbourne!

Tasty, fresh sushi! Cheap sushi! Friendly service! Cramped eat-in area, but totally manageable. 5 stars for takeaway sushi, 4 for the dine-in experience.

I am a fan of this sushi joint, so thanks Unilocal! It’s not exactly the sit down all-you-can-eat experience I am used to in Las Vegas, but for a quick snack I was not unhappy. $ 2 for a large hand roll is a pretty good deal, so I ended up at Tokui twice as it was only a few blocks from my hotel. I’m sure I’ll pop back in here next time I’m in town. Now if only they were open later…

Tokui Sushi(just a few doors down from Diane Sushi), provides great quality sushi rolls at only $ 2 each. Fresh, authentic(well. the staff all wear kimonos) and made on site. I have never had a bad take away sushi experience here!

If I’m honest, the main thing which draws me to Tokui Sushi is that they’re one of the only places in the city you can get a cheap can of soft drink. The fact that I care probably says as much about me as their price does about them. They’re not the greatest sushi place I know. Heck, they’re probably not even the greatest sushi place within a three block radius. But they are cheap — all hand rolls are $ 2 each, and they’re pretty edible at the price.

A much needed sushi establishment as you are heading towards the QV centre. It is so worth the visit, and their sushi is so cheap — we are talking $ 2 a roll; especially towards clearance time as any given working day draws closer to a close. And the store is so inviting, spacious and clean. Welcome to Melbourne’s finest sushi. Quality sushi; although the rice can be a little too chewy for my liking, and then sometimes it is a little too soft for my liking as well. Guess it could be the luck of the draw. The fillings appear to be fresh, and they are delicious which compensates for the rice more than adequately. The sushi is still worth coming back to for that in between meals snack to hit the spot. Something would be wrong with you if you love Japanese food, and your situated on this end of town and your hungry. Use that spare change wisely for a sushi roll or two(instead of putting it straight in the piggybank) from this establishment, and you will be content enough to power through your day with a renewed sense of energy.

There is nothing more that needs saying really, than the fact these guys sell sushi for $ 2.00 per roll! Oh and the fact that it is super delicious, super fresh(obviously because this place is super busy) and has super quick service(because they are super busy and need to be). Not super sold yet? Well that’s just super fine by me. All the more for me to get a super cheap, super delicious lunch whilst not waiting super long in a queue.

I don’t want to sound like a garbled version of my frugal nana but outside of the Two Dollar Store milieux, a couple of bucks doesn’t get you far these days. If I had a few coins in my pocket in London I would invariably hit Brick Lane for an authentically Jewish bagel. But in Melbourne? I head to Tokui Sushi in the CBD where every single type of sushi is a mere $ 2. And it’s good. Very, very good. I’d caught wind of this metaphorical bargain sushi basement and — erroneously — presumed that its sushi would be tough, bland and tasteless. How wrong I was. For Tokui Sushi makes some of the best sushi I’ve tried in Melbourne; undoubtedly some of the cheapest, and for a sushi enthusiast like me, that is a dangerously potent combination. Tokui Sushi’s delicious teriyaki beef sushi — made with sirloin steak — is notably good, being tender and almost compulsively tasty. Sure, Tokui Sushi may not be the most glamorous little sushi bar in town and seating is very limited, but with sushi this cheap and delicious I don’t mind a jot. An amazing Melbourne find. Nana would be proud.
