If you are in Melbourne/Australia, you should definitely give Laurent a try! This is one of the best, and one of my favorites Bakery/Café I have been to. I tried their Hot Chocolate & dessert cake, called«Monte Carlo». It’s a Chocolate mousse with café crème & chocolate biscuit covered with milk chocolate glaze. The glaze outside was shinny, smooth, and light, which is perfect for me. Texture, creamy, but not too sweet. Dessert was great, and Hot Chocolate too. Located in the city, 5 to 7 minutes away from Flinders Street railway station by train(Melbourne, Victoria). A cute, nice, fancy French bakery/café in the city, nothing can be better than spend a free day with your friends/love/family at Laurent. Services and staffs are great! I didn’t have to wait for long, they take good order, and give you great recommendations, and ask for your opinions after. Customers will always feel welcomed, and happy when the staffs are always smiling. Overall, great place + dessert! Try it out, if you have a chance, definitely worth it. Love and miss this place.

Beautiful little patisserie in a lane off Little Collins. Great choice of foods, pastries etc. I got a cappuccino and lemon tart. Quality.

A little bit fancier than most places, but there’s still that busy café vibe. I ordered a lamb and salad roll, and the bread was a little over toasted, and the lamb in the middle was still cold, which is diss appointing, because I’ve had cake from here, and that, along with their perfectly brewed coffee has persuaded me to have high standards for the place.

During our two week stay in Melbourne we’ve seen a couple of these little French bakeries, one on Toorak Rd and then this one on Little Collins in the CBD. Finally succumbed this afternoon. Pleasant surprise — they serve a pretty large latte in a bowl(like those I recall from trips to Paris) rather than the thimbles served all over the city! I also tore up a delicious lemon tart. Woohoo — good times!

I’ve been coming here for a very long time. It is usually my first stop when I am in Melbourne. It was one of the first boulangerie et patisserie in Melbourne and still one of the best. The rows of cakes and pastries are devine and so are the baguettes and croque Monsieur and all the other savoury options. They décor and ambience adds many more layers of charm to this wonderful spot in Melbourne and I will keep coming back. Probably my favourite café anywhere in the world. If only because I’ve been coming here for so long it now feels like home.

So frenchy, so chic oh so Melbourne! This little chain of Parisian pleasures are always enjoyable to go to. The service can be a little bit chaotic with coffee, cakes, cookies here there and everywhere. All the above items are tasty and reasonably priced. A good reliable place if your unsure of where to go or other laneway cafés arent open. Little tip– go upstairs, they have the same stuff, great coffee and smaller lines!

The little cakes are amazing and worth every cent. Wasn’t so fussed on the macarons, but then they’re not really my thing anyway. Lovely building with large windows, lots of light and a beautiful staircase. The noise of the coffee machine and plates banging together takes slightly from the atmosphere but you can deal with it, or go upstairs.

Delicious cakes served by friendly staff in a nice café(in a heritage listed building). Good place to go for a small bite of sweetness in the afternoon or evening, or get one of the larger cakes for takeaway for a special occasion. Yum.

This is currently my wife’s favorite bakery in the city and we often stop for a bite when we are wandering the city on the weekend. It is a classy place and I can see why she likes it, even if it isn’t my style. There is plenty of room to sit at a table and it is quiet enough to have a decent conversation. The beauty of this bakery and coffee shop is its charm and style. The elegant surroundings of brass fittings, the tiled floor and neoclassical features add to the beauty of the food. The French breads, baguettes, cakes, pastries, savouries are equally attractive. Some of the little cakes are over the top fantasy creations daring me to taste them. I think that my wife particularly enjoys it because she can sit here and imagine that we are back in Europe. There is even wine available adding to the feeling of being part of Europe rather than Australia where, until recently, you wouldn’t find an alcohol in a café or bakery.

Laurent is a café for people who don’t like laneway cafés. It’s big, brightly lit, relatively clean and, unlike the cafés in nearby Degraves, usually not so overloaded with people that you’re not sure whose lap you’re sitting in. That last point is often why I find myself there, but I also go when all I need is a giant coffee(the cups are much bigger than most) and somewhere to sit with the paper spread out. There’s also a huge selection of fluorescent desserts to be had, so anyone with Marie Antoinette dessert fantasies will be in heaven, and there’s a small selection of breads and the kind of lunch items anyone who has been to France will be familiar with — ie. mostly oily tuna and chicken rolls, although the mushroom croque monsieur is ace. The staff are often near impossible to attract, which leads to arm waving and finger clicking — it can be frustrating but it’s oh so French.
