I’ve been here serval nights with friends and taken my teenage girls here. Sunday’s between 4pm and 7pm is «happy hour» where you get value for money. The song section is fairly good, and the room state depends on which one you get. More often then not I end up using the wired mics as the wireless ones don’t work, so ask them to test it in front of you when they hand them over. The location is perfect if you are driving into the city, as it’s accessible easier. Staff will charge you for using your credit card so bring cash or EFTPOS to save a dollar or two.

I loved this place! Went here with my cousins on my last night in Australia. It is a great place for big groups to drink and bond.

Our karaōke room had fun lights, disco balls, cheesy music videos and very average pub food. The place was quite busy on a Friday night and was good for one part of a hens night. The drinks and food were the loss of points. The staff were very friendly though :)

They had me at «hello» when the bouncer carded me, telling me I look like a teenager.(for the record I’m 32). Thank you kind sir! Our crowd of 12 were then ushered into our private karaōke box where we promptly began singing terrible RnB and pop songs of our 90s youth. Drinks arrived within minutes: Pitchers of ale(cold and decent) and screwdrivers(warm and unmixed). Service was rushed but friendly. The song selection was good. Plenty of classic rock, trashy pop, old standards, and new chart busters. Nothing to rave about but perfectly satisfatory for a a bunch of karaōke amateurs at a birthday party. The place could use a pit of spit and polish. Despite the dimness of the room it was obvious that the banquettes were tatty, the floor was scuffed, and the paint was peeling. I’ve been to much better maintained karaōke bars in Asia and the states and was a bit surprised at the condition of KBOX. A fine place to get your jamz on in Melbourne but could be much better with a small renovation.

My ichi ban karaōke in Melbourne. Hand me a glass of champagne and a tambourine and enter La Isla Bonita now!

Sometimes I’m a little embarrassed about being such an Asian stereotype, but I get over it and I give myself over to the incredibly fun and addictive phenomenon that is karaōke. The set up here is exactly how one finds karaōke bars in cities like Shanghai. It’s a large venue full of private karaōke rooms that are fully equipped with a large screen, the karaōke machine, two microphones, a large coffee table(very important) and cheap vinyl sofas around the periphery of the room. They have songs in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean and the video clips that accompany each song can be completely hilarious. Prices are comparatively cheap and you often get two free drinks as part of your room reservation. To order more drinks, simply pick up the in-room phone and make your demands(politely). Ask nicely at the bar and you might be given a couple of tambourines and other small percussive instruments to take back to your room to add to the excellent noise your group is making.

KBox Karaōke Bar is one of the better and more popular Karaōke joints around. It has heaps of rooms available(of all different sizes) at a reasonable hourly rate, and with a decent music selection. The alcohol at KBox is also quite reasonably priced, and they can deliver drinks directly to your room on request. One problem that I have encountered on more than one occasion at KBox, is that the bar staff often seem to encourage you to start a bar tab for the room. So often times someone will start a bar tab and be charging drinks to the room and then at the end of the night, everyone ends out equally dividing the cost of the room(that also includes the booze purchased). So things are easier if everyone knows not to do that from the outset. But otherwise, KBox is a totally easy, total fun and hilarious place to party with friends!

This is SERIOUS Karaōke. This isn’t jump up in front of the DJ, slur a few words, knock over a drink and sit back down. This takes ORGANISING. My friend organised an end of uni celebration here, and it was kind of amazing. The venue is a series of private karaōke rooms along a hallway with a small bar and reception area. The rooms can accommodate groups from as small as 2 – 3 to up to larger 22 people rooms. There is flexibility in terms of length of room hire, number of people and time of booking. Details aside the result is fun. Padded red pleather rooms, large screen TVs and a music selection larger than my hangover equals a seriously good night. Its like drinking in a friends lounge with a professional karaōke set up and room service. Drinks are organised in the initial pricing and are delivered to your room via an in-room phone service. «Hello I would like five GnTs, thanks bye.» For a group of 10 for 2 hours it will cost roughly $ 20 each and include two free drinks each, so it works out to be relatively inexpensive to embarrass yourself in a private setting.
