I am reviewing this café purely based on their customer service and bike hire. We dropped in on a Sunday to inquire about bike hire the next day and the gentleman was so friendly, reserving us for the next day and putting absolutely no pressure on us. We showed up the next day and rented 2 bikes for a very reasonable rate. He also helped us out with the map, where to go for lunch and how long certain rides took. We were even a bit late returning the bikes and were not greeted with any attitude. Seems like a family run operation and next time I will definitely have a bite to eat!

This cute vintage train offers free tasting of nuts, jellies, chocolates and olives. With reasonable prices for a snack pack of almonds or dukka, this is a great place to buy gifts or treats. The back half of the store has unique and crafty bits and bobs. Next to the nut carriage is the café with a fantastic range of milkshakes and a nice sitting area under the shade of the trees.

Ahhh, The Almond Train! It’s a bit of a drive — situated on Main Rd, McLaren Vale SA, The Almond Train is a single train carriage that holds historical significance and has now been transformed into a specialty shop /eatery. History: The carriage was the first of two that are now located on the disused railway line in McLaren Vale that lead to Willunga. The railway line is now a linear walking and biking trail leading through beautiful vineyards and groves. You can hire bikes from The Almond Train. The Train also holds daily tastings of almonds, olive oil, dukkah, olives, and you can purchase these find foods from the region — as well as quality arts and crafts, and souvenirs. Phone and email orders are accepted, and they can deliver worldwide. So, historical significance? Check. Sells regional quality fine foods? Check. Bike and walking trail? Check. Cute premise? CHECK! But that’s not even the best part. Nooo, the FOOD here is. Walking into the small carriage, you will find adorable seating booths each with a window and curtain that just adds to the place’s charm, as well as an endearing outdoor seating area. I love the Atlantic Salmon here. It’s cooked to perfection with all the trimmings — salad, mash/fries, hollandaise sauce, etc. They have a wide selection of food on the menu and a kids menu too. This place is perfect if you have friends over from interstate or overseas, or you just want to get away for a bit. I love it!
