«Either give me more wine or leave me alone.» — Rumi What could be better on a warm day than platters, and chilled fruity white wine? We visited Angove’s McLaren Vale Cellar Door for some afternoon platters yesterday. As we were a group of seven, I rang up and booked us in and spoke to a lovely man on the phone who answered my query about what is on their platters without pause, obviously knows his stuff! They were very busy when we arrived, with only a couple of people serving at the tasting bar, although all of the staff were very friendly. My mother is lactose intolerant and rung up beforehand to ask whether they had lactose free milk — they don’t, but were obliging in letting her bring her own milk and charged her $ 1 less for not using their milk! The platters were one word — AMAZING. The cheese platter was a reasonable $ 18, and the food platter was(I think) $ 35. Everything was delicious and relatively well-sized for a platters meant for two. The server went through all the items on the platters for us and gave us a background of everything, including the local places where they came from. All the wines we tasted were fantastic, I’m a red drinker but found a new white that was superb — Angove’s 2014 Vermentino, definitely try this in the summer!

This is a great start to a trip along Chalk Hill road. The Cellar door is spacious and the staff are very friendly making for an enjoyable experience. Angove wines make a delicious and large range of wines. My Favourite being the organic range. I find I can drink a lot of this range with out feeling sick(lack of pesticides.) Another of my favourites is the Alternatus range, with the Alternatus Grenache being a brilliant red that you can chill in summer. although I have not tried them they offer platters, and the seating area outside gives you a great view of the region
