Got the take away lunch fish n chips for myself and calamari for the person with me. They were both average as far as deep fried seafood goes. I paid extra for the tarter sauce and it was pretty good since its homemade. The French fries were larger sized potatoes and tasted pretty good. I usually like ketchup with my fries but that isn’t really served here. I think ketchup period is kinda an American thing. It’s considered tacky to ask for it. Lol. Oh well, I added a little salt and they were pretty delicious! They also sell a variety of fresh seafood and even offered recipe cards for ideas on cooking the fish you buy. The staff was quick to help and the wait wasn’t very long. We ate across the street at Manly beach which always offers incredible views!

Brilliant fresh and tasty food with a great range. Flake isn’t on the menu but you shouldn’t be ordering that anyway. If your looking for a recommendation get the grilled salmon with ½ chips n ½ salad, cross the road and eat it on Manly beach.

great spot for fish and chips. We got the fish and chips to go and then walked down to the beach to eat it– just beware that there are lots of seagulls over there

I loved going here when I lived in Manly. I would do my grocery shopping and then stop to pick-up fish to cook for dinner that night. They are also my favourite option for fish and chips takeaway in Manly. I definitely recommend getting takeaway and then sitting near the beach on a weekend — good times.

I was in Manly recently and this place beckoned when we decided on fish and chips on the beach for lunch. Price was reasonable for location and quality, everything was cooked well and the serving sizes were as expected.

Not great. We ordered fish and chips and it tasted alright but we all got sick after eating there…

It’s a balmy Sunday evening and I’m hungover as hell so greasy old school fish n chips are in order. I’m told this is the place to head by locals in the know, so I don’t argue. There’s a hefty line up which is a good sign, but I’m not a big fan of queues — especially after a big one. Order placed, and the wait is significant. We’re told 10 minutes but it’s more like 25 plus. I personally like to drown mine in tartare. Alas, the family box arrives with two teeny squeezable tartares and I have to get in line all over again to get more because there’s only one man taking the orders. The potato scallops are golden delicious and I could eat them till the cows come home, but unfortunately only one has my name on it. The batter on the fish is soggy, as are the chips… the seafood sticks are limp… and there are only two measly prawns and 6 small calamari amid enough(soggy) chips to sink a chip. I’m pretty disappointed because this just didn’t cut the mustard, and I regret not going to Fishmongers around the corner.

There’s nothing like a slab of barramundi on the barbecue, and I’ve had some of the best from the Manly Fish Market. Give them 24-hours notice and they’ll bring in whatever size you need, and prepare it so you’re down to marinating and cooking — yum! And they’re not short of advice either — we wanted to replicate a dish we’d had in Thailand, and they were able to advise on just how to marinate without overdoing the cooking in the acidic lime. Of course if it’s more the instant fix you’re after, this is a café too, where the chef will whip up a dish from your chosen piece of fish, or your can switch to take-away and grab your portion with chips to enjoy outdoors. For me though, the true plus of this place is that its the next best thing to getting to the fish market in town at 5am when the boats come in — they’ll do it for you.
