After an extensive renovation in Nov 2013 Deery’s Restaurant & Smokehouse has a whole new look and feel and a fantastic menu that you just have to come in and taste. Fantastic modern Australian with mouth watering steaks.

History

Established in 1940.

Built in 1886 as the Kangaroo Point Hotel, the hotel is one of only seven, three-​story hotels in Queensland from that period.

It was re-​named The Story Bridge hotel in 1940 to coincide with the actual opening of The Story Bridge.

Bought by the Deery family in 1967, the hotel soon became the ‘village pub’ to the residents of Kangaroo Point – a suburb that was moving from being an industrial area to a popular residential location.

Had a pretty good group meal here recently. They do steaks well and everyone who got a steak was truly satisfied with their selection. The chips are also nicely done. We also had some tasting plates to start and they were pretty good too.
Plenty of beers and wine to go with your meal too.
Prices are probably a little high for a pub establishment but not unreasonable.

Nice food, good steak but not enough to satisfy. You need to order extra sides to feel full. Came here with a huge group and one of our party is a vegetarian and there was not a lot of things for her to choose from.
Quite expensive and I do not think it is worth the price but still good.

An average «gastro pub» is Deery’s… Nestled in the Storey Bridge Hotel (long ago turned into yet another soul-​less inner-​suburban sports bar) it suits the pretentious vibe of the place; the menu has something for almost everyone but the steak list, while looking impressive, is wayyyy overpriced and pretty… ummmmm… low quality (I was going to type «shit» there.). I attended a work-​organised dinner here and to be honest, we did have a good time. However, I ordered a $ 50 steak (sirloin on the bone I think) which was supposed to be dry-​aged, but instead of getting a tasty, tender aged steak; I was served the tasteless and tough variety. What’s more my Kilpatrick Oysters were burnt. Service was reasonable to good (read as some wait staff were terrific, some not so…). From the glowing reports on this site I would suggest they were either written by management or the place has changed since they were written.

With some of the best oysters and wine I’ve had in quite a long time, Deery’s is a great place to go for an indulgent lunch or dinner any day of the week. I went with a few family members just for a lunch; we were the only people in there on a Monday at around 1pm and the quieter the better.
Take in the old school décor, hard wood floors, caramel coloured wooden seats and tables and a professional staff that really make the extra effort to ensure everything is going well. Having been there more than once I can recommend the steaks, they are cooked to perfection and are always delicious. With a new menu of gorgeous food though I tried the Duck Breast with blueberry and almond salad and it was seriously good. This is a great place to spend a few hours on any day, especially if your plan is to make your way around the corner to the Story Bridge Hotel and Shelter Bar later on.

When you mix Deery’s Restaurant with the Story Bridge Hotel just next door you have a great night out!
A very contemporary Australian styled restaurant the menu selection isn’t wide but what they do they do well! It is a little on the exxy side when you’re talking $ 30 for the cheapest main meal. Probably best saved for the sporadic visit due to the cost. That said the value is displayed through elements such as the advice given on choosing wines to best complement your meal. I recommend the Lamp Rump!
It has a very warm feel with the timber flooring and tables. The perfect place to catch up with friends for a Special occasion. As I mentioned earlier, starting the night at Deery’s then heading next door to the Story Bridge Hotel for a few more drinks makes for the perfect night out!
