When this place first opened, I could not help but think«Why would a takeaway restaurant name itself after a film about a grotesque serial killer?» Serial killers thoughts aside, I was drawn to this place thanks to its vibrant looking visuals and the fact they claimed to be «gourmet and preservative free». Turns out this oddly named takeaway place is pretty good. I have tried a few of the burgers here and have been pretty satisfied with what I have received. The price of the burgers range from $ 7.50 to $ 10 which may be steep compared to McDonald’s a few doors down but they are pretty big and taste way better. I’m a fan of the ‘Beetnik Grill’ which is just your typical burger with cheese, lettuce and tomato but to spice things up, Moroccan mayonnaise is added to the mix. If you prefer feta cheese, the ‘Mediterranean Grill’ is also very tasty. They also have a fish burger and although I liked it, I found the fish to be a little too oily for my taste. So there you have it, regardless of its questionable title, Se7en is pretty good. For a food court burger place, it has managed to lure me away from McDonald’s(well, almost, I still go to MacDonald’s if I have minimum funds).

Seven. It’s an intriguing name. A number synonymous with good fortune. George Costanza from Seinfeld even contemplated calling his unborn child Seven. But does it really work as a gourmet burger restaurant? Seven only opened up in the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre food court a year or so ago. By my very nature I am drawn to new things and I found myself in the line for a Seven shortly after opening. I have to admit that my initial reaction wasn’t the best. For starters, the menu board itself is quite confusing. So many of us are used to the combo meal offers, but at Seven they seem to have thrown that concept out the window. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for innovation, however this felt like more of a step backwards in my opinion. In addition, the burgers themselves were good but they came at a price. Very few of us I imagine would feel comfortable paying $ 10 plus for a burger in a food court. Maybe if we were dining in the south a France and we saw a ‘Le Burger’ on the menu we’d consider paying a premium, but not in the Indooroopilly food court. Keeping this in mind, the burger was perfectly fine, however it didn’t really blow my mind by any stretch of the imagination. Overall, Seven is simply overpriced from my perspective. I know I have a reputation for being a stinge, I prefer the term ‘bargain-enthusiast’, but in reality I don’t mind paying for quality, if the product is in fact of a high quality. Unfortunately, I feel Seven just treads the divide between average and above average and really isn’t worth it’s gourmet price tag.
