it’s Location, Location, Location when it comes to food and this place is lucky it gets business at all. The food looks dried and awful. I took a picture of a tuna ship which looked it was days old. The selection was poor and after seeing the tuna ship I was not keen to try the raw salmon. Ended up going for the dumplings, since i figured they were a safer option. Tasted very«from the packet». Would not recommend.

DONOTEATHERE! I happened to look through the menu to see SHARKFIN sushi. I was horrified and left immediately. Although serving Sharkfin in restaurants is not illegal in QLD it is illegal in all of Australia to catch Sharkfin but legal to import it. I have seen first hand how fishers get shark fin and it is disgusting. Sharks are pulled from baited nets onto large boats and stripped of their fins and dumped into the ocean again completely helpless. Do not support such a cruel act that should be illegal in all of Australia.

Was greeted when first arrived and able to choose seating. There are two small sushi train tracks with different plates so if you wanted a particular dish you would have to get up and grab it from the other track or order it. I was disappointed that when I chose to order a pork bun they had none available and thought they could be better set up in that aspect as it was early on a Saturday. Dishes available were pretty generic and tasted good though is a bit more expensive than other places in the area. There were also a couple of desserts available such as tiramisu. If you’re really wanting sushi train this place is okay, nothing amazing but not bad. I would suggest checking around first though.

The sushi is not the best! too much rice, not enough filling. And way overpriced! And you have to wait ages before they put new things on the sushi train. The staff is nice but I’ll not go there again as the«sushi deli» is just around the corner and best value for money!

J-Shinsen is an alright place, not the best or definitely not the cheapest sushi place in the shopping centre but if you want to go to an actual«sushi train», this is the only one in the Indooroopilly shopping centre. I first tried this place when they had recently opened and were advertising a cheap Tuesday deal, since it was Tuesday, I thought I’d check it out. I can’t actually remember the deal but it was still cheaper than grabbing 2 sushi rolls from one of the sushi stands in the centre. The sushi was pretty good but did not taste as fresh and some other sushi trains I have been to. Overall, it was ok but I would not come back here alone. If I am having lunch with someone in the though, I may consider coming here. I found the service to be pretty welcoming, the man who seemed to be the owner was very friendly started a conversation with me. All in all, J-Shinsen is an ok sushi bar but if you are after a cheap and quick sushi option, one of the sushi stalls will probably be a safer option.

I went here with my sister and we both ordered from the a la carte menu, though the produce on the sushi train looked pretty fresh and within the usual $ 3 — 6 price range. The staff were friendly but obviously not authentically Japanese, as became clear when I asked a question about the Chicken karaage(pronounced kara-age) and she looked perplexed, then went«Oh karaage!»(rhyming with ‘garage’)… Anyway, with many good Japanese joints being run by Chinese or Koreans it’s no reason to write it off. I went with the karaage option and found it pleasant, with the side serving of rice and salad quite tasty too. My sister ordered the teriyaki, which for some reason came out much later than my meal. The meals were pretty good but for about $ 16 each, I’m not sure they are that much better than the $ 10 bowls you get down at Hanaichi. I would go back and try out their sushi train though.

Meh. Not sure if I would recommend this place. With the likes of Hanaichi barking at the corner, it probably wasn’t a great idea opening up another sushi train in the Indooroopilly food court. Mind you, nor have I ever seen kraft sliced cheese used on sushi. This is a mix of chinese and japanese(BBQ Pork Buns on the train choo choo) and some steamed dim sum(as Japanese as you can get? Not really)… the sushi is rushed, ill-prepared and kind of tastes bland. They’ve managed to mash or mix the tuna salad mix too much so it has lost it’s texture and feels like mush in your mouth(never thought i’d say that). The sushi is not the cheapest, but is by far the best that I’ve tasted… not really. Not sure where they went wrong here, the stools next to the train are really for tiny people, they are tiny cushiony stools that you can’t really sit comfortably on. The chicken karaage is bland at best and took a long time to come out. They really need to up their game if they want to stay in business here. The gyoza is surprisingly nice though, good I guess. Not sure if it negates out the rest of it.
