Throughly enjoyed our fish and chips. We will recommend to all our friends. Great little secret on King William Rd

Unpretentious little food haven in the middle of the glitzy King W shops. Fantastic sandwiches(really nice actually) and the salad selection is nice. Fried fish and chips also available, because every now and then you have that craving and nothing else is open late or on weekends. These are hard working staff that fully understand a weekend population’s need — and are here to save you… There is room to eat inside, but most clientele take food home to be devoured in private. Yep, you won’t be disappointed!

Tried a hamburger from their vicious range. It was very nice and the chips were great. Salads and fish look nice, I shall have to try them next time. Service was quick, staff friendly and attentive and the shop seemed quite popular with the locals. Fish out of water seems like a great fish and chip shop but ultimately, there menu variety is something that would keep me coming back.

I used to love Fish Out Of Water; it was great to have a take-away option that offered grilled fish and salads. I went there every week. The new owners, however, haven’t bothered to maintain the attention to detail that used to make the shop great. I had a couple of orders where the fish was undercooked, and three times the(previously excellent) Moroccan quinoa was inedible due to either being loaded with cinnamon or gritty from unwashed coriander. When you’re paying that much for a salad, you want to be able to eat it, if not enjoy it! When I said something about it, the woman at the counter said, «It should only have been made a few days ago.» Mmm. Days-old food. Anyway, I gave them a few more goes, and then finally gave up after getting yet another crappy salad. Sorry, FOW; I’ve learned how to make your Vicious Burgers at home now!

I always come to FOW for their Vicious Burgers. I like getting mine with fish, but most of the meat options are pretty great(or the veggie falafel if you prefer). With jarlsberg, capsicum, olives, lettuce, eggplant and a healthy dose of sweet chilli sauce these things are huge. This burger is like pigging out at your local gourmet deli section. Of course FOW do offer everything else you’d expect from a fish & chips shop, but it’s better, and they’ve got a good range of salads & drinks to go with it. You won’t regret trying a Tiro soda with your meal. I’ve never had a problem with anything else on the menu, it’s just that I like their vicious burgers the best. There are tables in store, but they can fill up fast, so takeaway is a good option.

I love fish and chips, and Fish out of water do a really mean Calamari and chips. Mmmmm so yummy! I’m hungry just writing this! The fish is always cooked perfectly, crispy batter and moist flesh. The chips are really nice, they have a good crunch to them, and taste hand cut(not sure if they are though!). I like eating in because this is a really cute little place. Don’t like fish? No worries, there is plenty of non seafood items on the menu to satisfy anyone.

Fish Out of Water has a reputation for serving up some of the best fish and chips in town. Their seafood is delicious, and if you are willing to eat something that looks like it should be served up on Mars(i’m referring to the calamari legs), incredibly cheap. However I’m really in it for the vicious chicken burgers which are massive, incredibly well cooked and delicious. Also good are the deep fried whitebait, its like eating chips… except they are really little fish. Crazy.

Fancy Fish and Chips? Yes please! Or maybe you’re more of a salad eater? No worries. Burger as big as you head? Yep, they’ve got that one covered too. This spiffy take away fish and chip shop is completely unrecognisible when compared with the greasy suburban chico roll joints I was exposed to in my youth. The food is fresh with a choice of around 6 – 8 salads most times I’ve been there. If you get one of their packs, with prawns, atlantic salmon steak, squid, felafel or gourmet product of your choosing the accompanying salad and bread included is enough to feed one very big person until the food no longer has anywhere to go and starts oozing out the ears. Most of these packs are between about $ 15 and $ 20, so I do the smart thing and find a buddy to share with. This is kind to my wallet and permits me to avoid food coma, shame and regret. Win! Fish out of water would be a great way to cater a dinner party with zero effort! They do have a few tables and chairs in the shop but people mostly do the take away thing.

Hrmm. Fish Out of Water used to be great. I lived just around the corner and was impressed by the way FOW seemed to sit perfectly between greasy-takeaway and fancy-gourmet. The last two times I’ve been here though, I’ve been unimpressed. The fish I ordered had soggy batter and wasn’t parcticularly amazing, and the salads seemed on the stale side. My friend got a burger that was boring and a bit on the squishy side. This wouldn’t matter so much if the prices weren’t much higher than a normal fish and chip joint. I think a little more attention to detail — especially considering the price — is in order!
