Don’t let the austere décor fool you, Sparrow is one of those restaurants that never fails to delight! The food is delicious and well priced, the staff are very accommodating and there’s something on the menu for everyone. I wish there were more tables and space, but when you’re halfway through your second plate of Sate Ayam, you’ll be enjoying your food too much to pay attention to what’s going on around you!

If you are looking for delicious, cheap Indonesian you can’t go past Sparrow. It’s a tiny little resteraunt owned by a husband and wife team. The menu had beeb carefully developed over time with only the most popular dishes earning a long term position. I’ve heard it’s the cheapest beef rendang in Perth. We have never been dissapointed by a dish but staff are very good st recommendations if you need help.
While the interiour is not flash you are almost guaranteed dinner and a show if you eat in. Hubby is hilarious! Also excellent for takeaway.

Very unassuming little corner restaurant, if you’re looking for a fancy restaurant this Isn’t the place for you– however if you want good quality Indonesian with 100% NO MSG at very small prices then Sparrow is perfect.
New customers get 10% off, the owner is a very charismatic guy and is passionate about the quality of their food. The food tasted fresh and we didn’t feel like having a nap afterwards!
You can dine in with BYO (It’s very small) or take-​away. A great place that won’t break the bank!

We are in love! Came here because of the reviews and great prices. This place is a gem! It is tiny but the larger than life owner managed to squeeze us in. He pretty much told us what to eat and it was awesome. Great flavours at such low prices. Perth needs more of these amazing cheap eats.

My local and I love it. Super cheap, super tasty and the owners are so lovely. Never had a bad dish, my favourite are satay chicken and beef rendang (go large — it’s so worth it!). Indonesian that has all the flavour of street food and great quality. No MSG, all good ingredients. Simple environment, busy most nights.
You can BYO or collect. Only open Monday to Friday. A Perth institution.

As you approach the corner restaurant, you’re left with a feeling of doubt. Should I dare order from here? The answer is YES! Best indo I’ve had.
The beef rendang is to die for, perfectly cooked and generous portions. I’m yet to have a bad meal here.
Best thing about it? Its authenticity, it’s cooked with love and at a very affordable price. Just remember to take your cash as they don’t have eft facilities.

We LOVE this place! I almost don’t want to write a review in case it gets more popular! The food is delicious, the satay the best we’ve had outside of Indonesia and Singapore. It is a tiny restaurant so you need to book if you want a table. The owner is hilarious– it’s like being in an episode of Fawlty Towers. If you want a delicious, cheap meal and lots of laughs– go there!

Still love this place, great food and everyone has to love Uncle Wei!!!
I’ve always thought that Sparrow’s way of serving was very clever. Instead of the oversized $ 18 serves of curry, Sparrow gives small serves for less than half the price. This allows for a table full of dishes to be sampled, even a table of only two people can still order a few things and not waste. The entrées serve as excellent side dishes also.
No MSG!
Fantastic flavours, tender chicken curries and very good prices; this is one of the gems still around from back-​in-​the-​day and long may it reign!

Have been to this wonderful little gem numerous times now! The owner is what makes this place he is so happy and cheerful! The food on the other hand is cheerful DELICIOUS authentic And awesomely priced! Go for the satay chicken, beef rendang, coconut rice and happy soda! Order as much as you want as the price is fantastic. I will mention that it is also tiny so please book before hand.

Authentic Indonesian food at (almost) authentic Indonesian prices! I’m so glad that this is just (almost) literally a stone’s throw away from my new place. Gets pretty busy & there’s not a lot of dining space, so I’m definitely going to be having lots of takeaways.
This is definitely not the place to go if you’re trying to impress your date (although it might be a good place if you wanted to screen for gold-​diggers… =P) Definitely casual dining, no frills, no nonsense, no fancy cutlery & elevator music in the background.
Still, the service is better than some fancy schamcy places I’ve been to. Wait staff are always smiling & polite, & the owner really makes you feel welcome.

Hands down the best, most affordable Indonesian in Perth, and with the loveliest service to boot. It’s not flash but geez is it good!
I’ve been away from Perth for 10 years and was delighted to find that Sparrow, though relocated from the Northbridge premises, still provides the same quality and small wallet dent as it did back in the day — that’s what comes from family ownership.
Make sure you take home some ikan bilis!
Oh, and call before you drop in because (shock, horror) they actually close the restaurant and take family time on the weekends and in the afternoons.

Sparrow is one of those places that is so unassuming that you forget it exists, even though; A) you drive past it just about every day, B) you have fond food memories there, and C) its less than 3 blocks from your home.
The food here is fantastic, and fantastically affordable. The owner is a happy, generous guy. When I visited first time, he rounded my $ 8.50 Gado Gado and nutty-​prawn-​cracker-​things down to $ 8, for the hell of it.
Authentic and honest Indo food in a no-​frills place. I really must remember this spot more often!

After hearing lots of good things about this place, it was more than time to try it. It was my first Indonesian food experience but I have since then been to Bali so I can now compare Sparrow’s dishes with what’s served in Bali.
Bear in mind this is a cheap place, so no fancy tables, menus or decorations… if you can get past that (and you should! you won’t get anything better for the price!) you will enjoy one of the best (if not THE BEST) beef rendang you have ever tried! Tender and full of flavours. We had a few dishes to share and everything was delicious. They also have Indonesian drinks such as Green Sands (yum!).
The service was extremely friendly and the food came fast. The owner came to chit-​chat with us and even offered us a discount as it was our first visit there. He is genuinely nice and insisted on not letting us leave a tip!
The place was busy, and it was a week night and half a dozen people came for take-​away. To me, that’s the sign of a great place. That would be my regular canteen if it wasn’t so far from home!

The Sparrow is an icon of Perth, I think everyone I know has either eaten at the Sparrow in Northbridge (which is now closed) or had takeaway from the Highgate store.
This is cheap food at its best. Their curries make you wish you were back in Bali sipping on Bintang and shovelling curries down by the bucket load. They do a pretty tasty Rendang and do yourself a favour an order a tub of Ikan Bilis– This is fantastic thrown all over your plate. We have never been disappointed when we order from the Sparrow, the only disappointed I have is that the Northbridge dine in restaurant had closed. We just loved it there, especially when the super friendly owner use to come around and tell us jokes, we miss you.
