I don’t know how I feel right now, but it certainly isn’t elation. Barolo didn’t give me the ‘food high’ I was hoping for. Came here with a friend for a celebration dinner and I thought everything was going well until I ordered a glass of wine. «I’ll have a glass of the Bress Pinot, please.» «Oh, Miss, it is actually a Pinot NOIR… not a Pinot» Well, color me stupid. Here I was growing up on my families vineyard learning to make wine for the past 25 years and you tell me a Pinot isn’t the same thing as a Pinot Noir?! Maybe if you had a Pinot Grigio on the list, I’d understand your confusion, but you didn’t. Do you also correct people when they request a Cab because a Cab isn’t the same thing as a Cabernet Sauvignon? I don’t know why people feel the need to make wine so pretentious. The food was okay. The gnocchi I felt lacked depth. It was bland, but the gnocchi itself was nicely cooked. The pizzas were the highlight of the evening. They are unique and pack a lot flavor. The restaurant was almost empty, but the service was not very attentive. We tried to order dessert, but the waiter never came by after giving us the dessert menus so we just left. It certainly wasn’t the best experience, but I’ll probably be back for the pizza.

Wow — great service, really great service. Food was good, my partner was most impressed, my thoughts, good, but not the best — sorry eating at The Gorbals was better — still I give them 5 stars. Atmosphere was good for a date night out, was a little noisy at times(very noisy) but the service and the décor made up for this. Enjoyed the chef’s specials — lamb and fish dishes, plus a desert to share. Wine list was impressive.

Barrrrroolloooo! I have been to this wonderful establishment a handful times now, for a variety of occasions and I can happily secure Barolo in my bank of Perth restaurant dimes. YES it is noisy and hard to hear(not intimate date material) but this lends to the fun lively atmosphere. Justify my love: — Beautiful wine list and sommelier to match — Stunning décor that is grandiose, cosy and warm all at once — Well spaced tables — Beautiful food! It was the greatest tasting pizza I have tried In who knows how long. The chef has nailed his recipe for dough and tomato base! — Staff with knowledge and sweet rolling Italian accents My only hicc was that the piece of red emperor on my plate too large for me finish. And when is that an issue? Helloooo, never!

I genuinely think this is the best Italian restaurant there is in Perth. The décor is both cosy and airy, if that is possible, with the dark walls but high ceilings and the tables are big marble slabs which can get noisy when super busy, but lovely mid-week. A group of us went and had to sample each others’ dishes because they were all so good — is it possible to get food envy for every person’s dish, whilst still thinking yours was also the right choice? The waiter(Italian, by the way) advised us that the Tiramisu was just like his grandma’s — he might have been sweet-talking us, but it was pretty delicious — not as yummy as the chocolate pudding though.

Wow, how have I never seen this place before? The girls were keen for some Italian action and one of them suggested Barolo. Always keen for a carb load the group agreed and we headed to Highgate. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous, beautiful iron arches and marble table tops — very New York dining. The food was sensational, some of the best Italian I’ve ever had. The gnocchi(fluffy and cloud like) and the spaghetti(made fresh in house of course) with crab were the two best dishes on the table. When the waiter told us the tiramasu was exactly like his grandmother used to make in Italy, how could we deny him, denying tiramisu is denying life after all. We also ordered a chocolatini. The tiramisu was average(hardly any sponge) but the chocolatini was a hot melting pot of chocolate love.

I think Barolo is overrated: oversized but still very stuffy inside, pretentiously decorated(black walls for a restaurant, pur-lease), terribly noisy and way too expensive for fare that is nowhere near as good as you’d get in the real Barolo in Piedmont, Italy.

This place has a great atmosphere as most Italians should. This may mean that sometimes it can get quite loud so if you are looking for somewhere to go with a group then here you go. The pizzas are delicious and served with impressive service. Any food that I have tried here has always been very fresh and not overly seasoned. The desserts are beautiful so try and save some space.
