Wow wow wow! I am a regular at this quirky drinking hole in Hawthorn however I popped in for dinner with the girls last night and we ordered a range of things from the menu. My favourites go in the following order: Kaptain Fried Chicken — Secret herbs & spices served with sweet soy aioli Honey pork bruchetta(the beef one was pretty wow too) The calamari The new krinkle cut chips that come with the fish and chips. All this was washed down with the Hunter Valley house shriaz and homemade warm scones were inhaled with jam and cream. Such a great night of food and drinks.

Painted in the gaudiest of reds, you can’t miss Babushka. A ‘pop up’ bar that’s slated to only be here for six months, it has an unusual menu that focuses mainly on potatoes and vodka based drinks. Think fries, potato pizza, baked potato skins, and other nibbles sure to win the hearts of carb lovers everywhere. Not being a huge potato fan, I’m often at a loss at what to order. Last time, though, they had a special of Bloody Mary Oyster shots which went down an absolute treat. Booze and oysters in one? Right on. Dessert is from those cheeky lads at Burch & Purchase — little tubs of delectable icecream(popcorn flavour anyone?) and chocolate bars. A casual interior and vibe means this suits the young kids — maybe I’m just getting old, but it kind of doesn’t rock my world. I however doubt that I’m their demographic. With the university just down the road, this place is a great reasonably priced hang out after classes are over.
