I had a pie craving and this bakery more than satisfied it. The line at the door gave me a hint that it must be good, and I was not disappointed when I got my chicken, cheese & bacon pie. It was wonderful. The bakery itself has plenty of space to sit and enjoy; it was a lovely atmosphere with the fireplace going. My friend and I shared a chocolate donut which was fluffy and scrumptious! This place made me very happy!

This was quite literally a surprise find for me… never having heard of it, and never having seen it. I was waiting for Dad, took a walk between rain showers, lured by the outpouring of happy people, smell of baked goods and my heart was sealed when the(fake) fire was spotted… WITH a free seat right beside it. OHMY! I tried the renown 5-year-award-winning Pasty — and indeed — THISWASAMAZING!!! The coffee was exactly what I wanted and there was loads of space. SO much space to occupy a 2-person table and not feel guilty you are stealing them from other consumers. I don’t fall in instant super-like with places very often, but this one had me from the very moment I heard«Hello, how can I help you!?». Baked goods are always a winner. Baked tasty goods get you going back. Next time I’m there, I’m going to get my hands on some sweet-as buns of theirs(the food kind of course!).

The Orange Spot is a Glenelg institution that has been baking delicious pastries for over 50 years. They continue to win awards«Australia’s Best Pasty 2013» to name one, and their range of cakes and buns are generally delicious. If you were at school in the 60’s to 80’s — their Kitchener Bun is a blast from the past. A recent move next door into what was formerly a «silver service restaurant» has provided a comfortable«eat in» option to what was once just take-away, however the décor is a bit ostentatious/incongruous for a bakery! Well worth a visit for a pasty hit anytime.

Food historians believe that The Orange Spot has been selling its flaky, flavoursome pies and pasties here on Anzac Highway since earliest times. There are also a lot unbelievable myths about the ‘Spot’(as it’s known to its afficionados, often called ‘Spotties’), but they fade into irrelevence as one’s teeth sink into the perfectly baked, buttery pastries to release the exquisitely tasty fillings within. Tell me what’s better on a nice summer day, if you can, than a swim at the beach followed by a visit to the Orange Spot and a fantastic pasty. The local seagulls, always on the lookout for a good beakful, often trot in to check out the floor for pickings. If they outstay their welcome, the staff jump around going ‘shoo!’ to evict the hungry little critters, so you’re quite likely to get a bit of live impromptu theatre to go with your pasty. It should also be noted that the Spot’s cakes are widely regarded as very moist.

If ever there was a place in Adelaide, nay, Australia that deserved 6 or 7 stars, the Orange Spot is that place. My father started coming here back when he was only knee-high. I got turned on to this place at a very young age, still in nappies. Everytime I visit Adelaide, this is the first stop. First of all, this place has the best vanilla slices on the planet, probably the universe. I don’t care what you say to the contrary. The pasties and pies are probably next on that list. Everything is baked fresh with new batches always topping up the display cases. No matter what your selection you can’t go wrong. The pasties are as good, if not better, than the real deal ones you can get in Cornwall. Knowing how the Aussie beat the Brits in just about everything, we may have a case for this dish too. Parking can be hard to find on the street. Make sure you read the signs as Glenelg has parking times that vary greatly by the block. Doesn’t matter what time of the day you come, it will always be good. Having thought about it more, I would say that the Orange Spot is a portal to heaven and may need to be given at least 10 stars. Well worth a visit, you’ll be hooked immediately and for life. Get a pastie, a vanilla slice and a custard tart.

Bakerys are as important to The Scott’s world as pubs and Bowling Clubs. Seeing I am not into KFC like most of the populace, I need alternative sustinance after a night on the turps… enter the humble bakery and it’s abundance of meaty, fatty, pastry covered goodness! Orange Spot has been the source of many of my preliminary recovery sessions, and although I have been told their pasties are retardedly good, I stick to the meat and meat like substances! Sausage rolls are the go my Unilocalers… get off the Colonel’s junket and jump on board the pastry train! They have some good sweets too, but stick to the savoury if you are feeling a bit tender!

This shop has been here as long as I can remember. As kids we would come here on Saturday mornings and mum would do her shopping then we would get pies or other pastries from here on the way home for lunch. Good memories! If something has been around as long as I have then they are definitely doing something right. They have so many different kinds of pies. And some hard to get ones too. I LOVE the Hawaiian Pie. And then for dessert we would get these amazing apricot or berry scrolls. My parents always loved the Bee Stings here but my favourite if I got to choose something just for me was always a Kitchener Bun. All that jam and cream! Definately a great bakery and if you are in the area this is a little easier to get to than something on Jetty Road. Through all the changes in the area over the past 30 years this is one of the few places that remains the same yet still does not look old or worn out. Keep up the good work!

It is amazing that I have only discoverd this little gem recently. I have often driven past and have heard that it is a good bakery from various sources. I suppose it is because I am not a big eater of baked goods that I haven’t discovered it before. I needed to buy a cake to take to a friend’s place and another friend suggested I get a carrot cake from this bakery: Well this carrot cake was beyond anything I have ever tasted; truly divine and very moist(an important adjective when describing cakes). I will be back to discover other tasty morsels from here. They have won many awards, which are proudly displayed in the window, for their artisan breads and pies and pasties/ The parking is a little tricky, but when taking photos for this review I did discover a small car park behind the shop.
