Simple menu made it easy to decide which carnivorous delight I would have. I went the 400g porterhouse a mate went the 500g t bone. Both were cooked as requested and were served promptly. Very satisfied with the meal, service and price. Will be on the itinerary for my next top to Adelaide for sure! The traditional salad and standard chevapi side was very different and tasty.

A Glenelg institution since the 1970s; If a red-meat fix is what you’re after, the BBQ Inn is, in my opinion, the best steak in town, bar none. While the décor is a little spartan, the quality of the meat wine and service make up for it. Probably not the spot for an intimate romantic dinner — more for a hearty meal with friends and family, give them a try when next at the Bay. Don’ forget to book.

This place is definitely for the bbq meat lovers. And when I say«BBQ» i mean as you’d expect to see at most backyard BBQs. Because the meat is cooked over a charcoal grill the meat is well done and juicy. Forget about asking if you can have your steak rare, though — I didn’t seem to get the chance to pick. However, the steak, prawns and shaslicks are done better than what you’d usually see in a typical pub meal. The garlic bread and chips are also pretty good. The salad is very basic and comes in small serves but the potato salad is tasty. You’ll need to ask for condiments such as tomato and BBQ sauce or mustard, which are available but not automatically served with the meal. The food at Glenelg Inn is not on the gourmet level of, say, Sostas or Gauchos, but its deliberately not aiming at that level. The décor is basic but tidy and clean. The Inn gets busy because it is popular and, as you’d expect, it gets noisy. Book ahead, especially for a weekend visit, because it is a popular place. The staff are very attentive and quick with brining out drinks from the bar. Overall, Glenelg BBQ Inn is very comfortable with its value proposition and its popularity demonstrates that it works. The food is simple but well done at is relatively inexpensive considering the amount of meat served. I’m pretty sure I can do better tasting marinated sirloins on my home BBQ for about half the cost of visiting the Inn. However, the Inn is good to visit to if you don’t want the hassle of cooking up your own massive Aussie BBQ meal. If the service was average I’d probably rate the Inn at 3 stars because the food is nothing spectacular but I think that 4 stars overall is about right.

Vegetarians stay away! I have been coming to the BBQ Inn for at least 20 years, with my parents coming for much longer. I used to come here when it was the Glenelg Bay BBQ. Everytime I’m in Adelaide I always try to make at least one visit. First thing you see when you step inside is the bbq’s and meat cabinet. Everything is freshly prepared while you wait. Go for the mixed grill as you get a decent selection of meats. You have to get at least one or of chevapchichis as they are amazing. The plates usually come with salad sides and the potato salad is very good. Well worth a visit whenever in the Glenelg area. Haven’t had any problems with it but make a reservation just to be sure. Bring your appetite. Service is good and prices are very good.

Meat! This restaurant embraces the wise and timeless words«You can’t make friends with salad!». The Glenelg BBQ Inn is the origin and home of the Man Meat Night. Approximately once a month myself and some of the lads(there are about 15 regulars now) get together for an onslaught of meat. Needless to say the fairer sex is not permitted due to the manliness required to consume as much meat as we do. My nickname is ‘The Surgeon’ on account of my preference to cutting all of the fat off before eating. The go is, at the BBQ Inn one must order a minimum of the Mixed Grill which is a porterhouse, lamb shashlik, 3 chevapchichis, a big-ass sausage and some token onion, tomato and potato salad. Any other order must be approved by the Man Meat Members present. Just to paint an even more ‘enlightening’ picture, mid meal ‘dumps’ are not uncommon. The first time this wondrous occasion occurred it was my two mates(brothers) and myself. At one point I began to turn white and the waitress was incredibly concerned with my well being. This was my first experience of the ‘Meat Sweats’, and certainly has not been my last! Anyplace that can give birth to something as amazing as Man Meat Nights has got to be sweet as, and the BBQ Inn is most certainly that! I have noticed the quality of meat has dropped a little in the last few years, but I tend to take a LOOOOONG time to eat my half cow, so if gets a little cold and tough! By the way… if I have inspired you to organise your own Man Meat Group remember that the aftermath is often unpleasant. I’ll leave it at that!

I have eaten here literally hundreds of times due to my folks life-long love affair with the BBQ Inn. First things first — no vegos/vegans allowed. Well you’re allowed but you’ll either starve, or throw up from the meat sights and scents EVERYWHERE! For the meatatarians it is your happy place. The food is simple and very East Euro style. I have a pure-blood Aussie bestie who just doesn’t get this place, especially the sides. You don’t choose your sides, everyone gets stock standard potato salad, tomato, sauerkraut and raw onion(yes raw). You can order red oil-marinated capsicum as an extra. I also admire their provision of unlimited fresh, crusty bread free of charge. Word to the wise: if you order the mixed grill(which is massive in size as well as value for money) don’t be a hero, avoid all bread, entrees etc, or pay the price. The fact there isn’t a dessert menu in sight should give you a hint that you won’t be leaving this place hungry. Don’t forget you can ask for as many sauces, mustards or horseradish as you like to enjoy with your meal. In a nutshell-anaemia is not an option!

This restaurant is a carnivore’s delight. Great for blokes to go out with their mates and get a generous serving of meat(no ducking out to Macca’s afterwards). Most of the meat is charcoal grilled and the fresh meat is on display for all to see and choose(if you like that sort of thing). If you are not a red meat lover it is probably not the place to go, however they do have limited seafood and chicken options. Meals are accompanied by a token salad of shredded lettuce, tomato and onion; the sort of salad items you would find in a yiros. The wine selection is fairly standard and some of my male friends have said that they would like to see a better selection or at least some creativity and thought in the wine menu. The restaurant has had a revamp in recent years and it is clean but basic. For all of this, I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you want good basic steaks and mixed grills. If this is your thing, you won’t be disappointed they have been doing this for years and have got it down to a fine art.
