I came across this place by chance when going out for brunch with a friend, and I’m sure glad I found this little nugget! Located right next to the Round House, there’s plenty of free parking available out front. We dropped in on a late Tuesday morning and it wasn’t too busy, but wasn’t too quiet either. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, and attracts a diverse range of people– from businessmen to retirees, students to young adults. There’s plenty of seating inside as well as a few seats outside for those cooler summer days. Inside, there is one long bench table that’s suitable for groups, but other than that, tables for 2 – 4 are prevalent. I ordered an ice coffee and the West End Salmon, which came with poached eggs, a bed of spinach and hollandaise sauce. While a little bit pricier than other places that do brunch, it was exceptional nonetheless. I wouldn’t say the servings are generous, but they’re enough to make you feel satisfied. My friend ordered the Eggs Benedict that came with prosciutto and asparagus. They said that aside from the toast which was quite hard, everything else was great. Staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the local area and history. It’s table service here, with split billing available– always a winner in my books. I’ll be back for sure.

Recommended. A gem in the heart of Freo’s west end. Great brunch menu — hard to choose as there are so many good dishes. Walking distance to sites such as Round House and WA Maritime Museum make it a good place to fuel up before soaking up some learns. Good coffee. Table service… nice staff with a laid back(but efficient!) vibe.

A lovely café to chill at down the West End. Time a visit with a wander around the around House or down to Bathers Beach for fish and chips. The coffee’s good and you don’t feel rushed here.

This is one of the best places in Perth for coffee. A quaint corner café perfect for brunch. I had the hock for breakfast which was really quite interestingly put together. There are also lovely pastries and then there is the coffee and the coffee and I cannot say how good the coffee is!

Absolutely Loooooove their coffee! They use dukes coffee(from Melbourne) like Small Print in Perth… And we’ve tried a few of their choices for lunch and they were all great! I especially like their risotto :) to top it off, lovely landscape and ample parking!

Above average breakfast but very small servings for the price. I had the Benedict which was a small slice of seeded bread with 2 poached eggs, prosciutto, hollandaise and 1 stalk of asparagus slice lengthways. While it was absolutely delicious, the small serving and $ 18 price tag left a lot to be desired. Location is great and close to a carpark. Atmosphere and look of the venue is nice and the coffee was good. My other half ordered a mug and did proclaim his disgust that it was very weak. I’d give Chalky’s another go but there are so many other places to go in Freo!

Stopped by for a late brunch. First thing you notice is the very laid back and relaxed environment. Staff are very welcoming, almost like you’ve just stepped into their living room or something and they are happy to have you join in on the conversation and activity that was already taking place. Sit where you like, table service will come to you. Brunch menu was very good, plenty more I’d like to have ordered. Today I had the mushroom and eggs with a flat white, chorizo added as an extra to the main. Coffee was great, main was great. Looked fantastic, tasted the same. Only thing that prevented this being a 5 star was I felt the eggs were very slightly under. Otherwise perfect. Again on the staff, very friendly; very easy to talk to, very attentive. Service was spot on and quick! Make sure to stop by when you can.

One of my fave little cafes in Freo. Great coffee, cozy vibe, tucked away right next to the Round House in the west end of town. I find it a nice quiet spot in town that feels far away from everything else yet is still close. Always a pleasure to relax there with a tasty bite/sip and a book.

Ate here yesterday for brekky. Nice little place. Coffee was great. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was tasty. Located right next to the roundhouse, it’s a good stop in for tourists and locals.

Truly excellent coffee, but a few mix ups with our order. The wrong juices were served, but this was quickly and cheerfully fixed. The porridge was lovely and filling, perfect for the rainy weather. My partner ordered scrambled eggs on toast but somehow ended up with poached eggs with a side of bacon. We didn’t bother mentioning it as we were hungry. The order must have been taken wrong as we were charged for the eggs and bacon, but it wasn’t that much of a big deal. We would come again.

Popped in for brekky on the weekend with a group of friends. Have been here before and was glad that things hadn’t changed. The coffee was great and the food delicious! Ordered the eggs on toast with bacon and avocado. Generous servings and unfortunately wasn’t able to finish my meal — which is a rarity for me! The eggs were light and fluffy and the bacon was crispy and tasty. Love being able to put together my own breakfast which I find is the more popular way to go now.

Such a cute quirky little place tucked away at the end of High st. Awesome coffee and quality food. It has an airy, inventive industrial style with cute pops of color and textures that bring in those happy, chilled vibes as well as changing chalk sketched wall art; loving the whale splashing out of the teapot currently. And again, I really feel the need to reiterate this; the coffee is AWESOME :)

This great little café is hidden away on High St in Freo’s west end. Chalky’s is a really chill spot with great décor including a fantastic artwork depicting Freo. With a fantastic alfresco area and a trendy clientele, Chalky’s is good for any meal of the day and serves up a wonderful coffee. Upon visiting the other day, I only ordered drinks; the coffee was creamy and delicious and well balanced for a flat white. Prices were reasonable and the waitstaff were relatively friendly. Another great quirk about Chalky’s is the fact it is all table service which is a nice touch. Food being served to other punters looked good and prices on the menu seemed decent. All the usual brekky faves as well as some quirkier dishes. The muesli seemed popular and presentation was wonderful. In addition, Chalky’s offers up counter selection of cakes and cookies and is well worth a visit of you want to get out of the hustle bustle of the main freo cappuccino strip. Chalky’s is open from 7am 7 days a week and closes mid afternoon. Staff also told us that from Anzac Day onwards Chalky’s will offer up new menu items so I can’t wait to revisit soon and sample said menu. Bottom line: Great hidden gem and a must if in the Fremantle area.

Friendly, helpful staff making great coffee brings me back every morning… and the food is definitely no after thought. Did I mention they have table service? Yes, really… None of that order and pre-pay at the counter you come to expect in Freo.

This place is AWESOME. Cool vibe, décor, friendly owners, amazing food and coffee and such a nice and relaxed feeling about the place. I recommend the poached eggs and pesto. The serving size was huge but it left me wanting more. Also it’s the prime location to have a nice walk along the beach afterwards.

Breakkies here are great! I can recommend the goat’s toast which comes w rocket and a delicious housemate beetroot relish, yum! Lunch I was not so impressed with, my quinoa salad was full of tomato instead of beets but coffees here are delicious. Lots of nice treats, good service. They have a few different doggie biscuits which, as a dog owner, I find super sweet! Definitely check it out.

Just breakfasted here. Great choices and the coffee was good. We had the mushrooms on toast and it was delicious but would have been much better if they just buttered the very thick and dry sourdough toast — it took a heavy hand to cut it and 2 glasses of water to wash it down. Otherwise it was great, I’ll be back and ask for a side of butter next time.

Well isn’t this place just quaint? Such a gorgeous spot to open a café. Almost opposite the University of Notre Dame, this café is packed full of students — not surprised though. Honest, wholesome breakfast available — from eggs on toast, to wraps and panini’s and their muesli in a jar(my favourite — this is also available in a takeaway). Their coffee is gewwwwd too … I mean reaaaaal gewwwwd — a nice shot of espresso will get that heart pumping !! Ohh forgot to mention, free wi-fi and the nice folk at Chalkys don’t have a limit of the time you spend there — so kids, get your laptops out, wi-fi on and connect to the world !!!
