Urban chic has a home.
You know in movies where our young protagonist has moved from the country to pursue the big smoke dream and they go into the apartment of someone who is well established/​higher status and a little bit evil because they’re going to use that naïve person somehow? But the reason we know they’re well off is because their loft is modern, spacious and full of reappropriated furniture, like steel filing cabinets from the 60’s and industrial lights that mean this person may be evil but we buy the idea that they’re successful because they have taste?
So if you can imagine that kind of apartment, this would be the place to buy said reappropriated industrial furniture.
There’s plenty here in furniture and statement pieces. Every piece in your loft should have a story, right? How about a Swiss army blanket? What about a Swedish gas mask? Or some old light-​up exit signs?
If furniture isn’t really your thing, then there are some vintage clothes up the back, but really, it’s the furniture that reigns here.
Definitely a good place to buy furniture with personality from another life.

Most of this large warehouse retail space is taken up with retro, ex-​commercial, industrial pieces for the home. Things like old medical or dental storage cabinets and slim, grey metal drawers designed to hold cold, pain and terror inducing medical tools, or large industrial lamps re-​designed to suit the modern home. They’ve also got a wonderful array of old signage and metal panels featuring letters and numbers probably sourced from abandoned lawn bowling club scoreboards.
It’s great to have a wander around and imagine what these items would look like in my home, but they’re simply unaffordable for me. Unlike the small section at the back with a couple of long racks of vintage clothes. This stuff I can afford, and it so happens that I always find something I just have to buy here, like a bright red 80s silk top in mint condition for $ 25, or a, again mint, vintage Biba-​esque Calvin Klein velvet hat for $ 50.
The clothing selection is small but well chosen and it’s almost as if people don’t see this small section at the back of the store so it’s never crowded, and there’s never a queue for the change rooms.
Oh, there’s also a couple of cabinets up the front of the store near the registers with some lovely vintage jewellery and hair pieces. Again, definitely worth a look.
