Had the ‘meat of the day’ and got a piece of perfectly cooked steak that went to the edge of my large plate. My companion had the seafood linguine and walked away with a massive smile on Her face, it was thin and perfectly cooked. This place reminds me of the real Italy in the way the waiters talk and treat food. Its very ‘clean’ food, ie. everything tastes fresh.

Once again I dislike giving five stars, however, Supermaxi has brought me back to this. I wish I could give it 4.9 stars but that option does not exist, so 5 stars it is. Always great pizza, always great service… always the epitome of what I expect in a restaurant.

You’ll hopefully move past the name quickly. But guaranteed you and your companions will be saying«it sounds a bit like.». Supermaxi makes good pizza. Very traditional and the staff reflect it. Well traditional in the sense that you could imagine a pizza like this getting served up in Italy — and that;s a compliment I don’t use lightly. It’s not up to the fare you’ll get in Rome, but it’s pretty damn close for Australia. I usually go for the Margherita, which in my view is not only the best pizza, it’s the bellwether of a terrific pizza place. Their margherita is up to snuff, so bodes well. I’ve never ventured off the pizza track. I’m sure you can, but I don’t think it’s their forte. If you’re making a trip to Supermaxi, it’s probably for the pizza. You’ll often get the staff chatting away to regulars in Italian. Real charm and authenticity.

I went here for dinner with a very big group of family, so I was able to sample a large portion of the menu. Pizzas are probably the highlight of this place(why is it called Supermaxi anyway?), and they’re pretty good, and pretty big too. One will fill a person up quite well. The mushroom and truffle oil pizza would have to have been my favourite. Some of the other pizzas, such as the Strada Nova, could’ve done with a little more topping(particularly cheese), and the edges were uneven(some parts of the pizzas were nowhere near the edges, leaving you just big bites of crust). Mains were not as good as the pizza, but still of a good standard. The veal costoletta’s crust was abit soft as they had heaped coleslaw(which was void of almost any dressing) all over the top of it. The linguine was abit bland. Squid ink pasta had a decent sized portion and was pretty good. Desserts were satisfactory but nothing amazing. It was unanimously agreed that the vanilla pannacotta was the best out of the desserts, but even then it was nothing too fancy or mindblowing. It had a red wine sauce drizzled around the edges which didn’t quite work. The fried custard was interesting, but once again fell short of anything memorable. I’d come back here for the relaxed ambience, friendly staff and the pizza. Tip: If you’re meeting people here at a certain time, allow 15 minutes to find parking — basically the entire area around this place is permit only.
