Very Impressed. The atmosphere was inviting and non-threatening. The service was perfect. Not too obtrusive but not too distant either. The food was excellent. I had the barramundi which was the fish of the day. My friend had the lamb shank ragu off the bone with fregola. For desert, I had the sticky date pudding and my friend had the cheese plate. My friend is gluten intolerant and the staff and chef accommodated her requests perfectly. Will definitely go again.

Delightful place for an outdoor lunch, with good service and well thought out food. To quickly get past the bad part: The fettuccine with prawns and garlic was disappointing. Not much flavor, not many prawns. Now, on to the good parts: Everything else. Fabulous setting across from Dee Why beach, watching the waves and surfers. Considerate staff, giving us a great table but being careful to choose one keeping us out of the direct sunlight for our visit. Extensive wine list, from which we picked a Hunter Valley rose that we’ll never see in the US. Loved it, some real character for a rose. We started with oysters Kilpatrick. Warm, with bacon, parsley, and salt. Fresh that morning, they were perfect. Without being rushed we were able to enjoy some thick delicious Italian ciabatta bread and olive oil with our rose. Then we followed with the pan seared scallops, wrapped with prosciutto, with a cauliflower purée, tomato, caper, parsley, and a touch of anchovy. I even ate all the cauliflower purée, a first for me. The prosciutto was mild enough to not overwhelm the scallop, which was lightly cooked, not burnt. Then the fettuccine, mentioned above. Service was nicely paced and all the staff was friendly but professional. We have friends that love this place. Now we know why.

Have you ever felt unwelcome at a restaurant? I have, and I guarantee that feeling will eclipse any fond memories of that particular restaurant you once might have held. Stella Blu is one such restaurant; one sunny afternoon, some girlfriends and I decided to grab a coffee there. We were seated, ordered and then asked four times if we’d like some food? More drinks? Anything else? NO! After our coffees were drunk and cleared, the waitress immediately delivered the unsolicted bill. Despite the fact we were still clearly chatting, and despite the presence of others — who were drinking alcohol and eating. Although I’ve previously enjoyed Stella Blu, I’d be hesitant to return to anywhere that appears to discriminate on the basis of order or age.
