Glamour awaits you at the door! Tall, busty, charming, enticing and colourful… the front of house is Maxi Shields. Yes Maxi… is a stage name for a female impersonator… who is witty and has a tongue that can cut the air with one slash. What a great draw card to a small café/restaurant that is full of character. This little place was crowded but we arrived late in the night and was only looking for coffee. Coffee came out, piping hot and with a smile from the handsome waiter. A quick look at the food and I could say. it is a place I will have to come back to. There is a mixture of Italian and Greek dishes that take up the whole plate. No one starves here or are on some new age diet. The décor has some very interesting pieces of art. A mixture of original oils to modern sketches. If I could just have time to admire by myself… but then again I was on sensory overload. The passing crowd stopped and chatted to the renowned celebrity beside us. Oh who could this be?(damn put those glasses on and don’t be soon vain… I said to myself). The fellow beside us is the co owner of this establishment, Mama Colin. He knew everyone and the crowd came and chatted to him as they were passing by. The atmosphere was so friendly. After a while he chatted to us about the restaurant and the needs of the area. This was such a lovely time and a great way to finish off the night.

Belloccio is basically a gay eatery located on Oxford Street in the heart of Sydney’s gay district. Though the patrons are predominately gay male, that doesn’t hold back the straights and others from being there to join in on the fun, good times very reasonably priced food. On weekends and some other nights they have various forms of entertainment like drag impersonation singers & etc. which I found not only the entertaining but also to be top notch, hilariously fun especially combined with their good food offerings. From the various foods I’ve had here, I can say that they have one of the best chicken schnitzels(16.90AU$) in town and also a very good grilled octopus appetizer. However, the menu is wide ranging with good pastas… they have pasta specials daily… rump steaks, salads, particularly their Caesar, along with varying other dishes. It’s a small very cozy place with a sidewalk patio area, perfect for people watching, but can get packed on weekends so if going on a weekend it would be a good idea to make dining reservations in advance. Another joy of dinning here is the wait staff, ever efficient, professional but quick with the wit and offering plenty of humor.

You get a dinner and a show, several nights out of the week. The food is very good and your plate is full. The staff is great and the show was an extra treat. I ate there 3 times during my week in Sydney. Try any of the veal dishes, like almost all restaurants in Sydney, dinner is al la cart, as they say when in Rome…, there is also an outside patio where you can have dinner and people watch

Food is very reasonably priced but the real hit is the friendliness of the staff. You will be greeted like family and they’ll make an effort to get to know you. Perfect for a relaxed dinner for two or a small group.

I used to live by a chef from Naples and he came over once and cooked a carbonara for us. It was perfect. The carbonara I ordered at this place was a far cry from that one. Too oily and drowning in sauce. My wife’s dish was also drowning in sauce. The caprese salad was good, though. I think this place deserves two and a half stars.

Really lovely establishment with food above and beyond what you’d expect from a sidewalk café which nominally indicates it serves pastizzi. We went in for lunch and I initially planned to get pastizzi but the lunch specials swayed me to change course and I’m happy I did. Really enjoyed the haloumi plate as a shared starter, four nice sized pieces of grilled cheese with perfect brown on them and a mixed green salad in the middle with drizzled balsamic honey glaze. The owner is lovely and very hands on with the service but it’s not intrusive, just charming, and he was proud to share the secret ingredient of honey and sugar when I asked about the balsamic dressing. For mains we had a heaping portion plate of spaghetti boscaiola which came out with dishes of parmesan and chili powder to add to taste, and a chicken schnitzel with chips. The chicken and chips weren’t anything special but the spaghetti was creamy and rich and divine, a bit rich at the bottom where I quit eating because the portion was so generous. I recommend going in for the lunch specials like we did, they are $ 10 for various choices, and the rest of the menu is not overpriced either. I will be back to try the pastizzis soon enough. Highly recommend this spot otherwise.

Don’t bother with Pastizzi Café Bar on Oxford St Darlinghurst. Whilst the prices seem reasonable, you’ll receive a nasty suprise when you get the bill. They’ll charge you for everything possible including mustard and honey. Staff tried to justify this saying«Oh but all the cafes around here do that,» even though they couldn’t name a single café that charged like that too. Shame on you guys — especially as that wasn’t indicated on the menu.

Simply the best café dinning experience on Oxford Street. Our waiter was the owner who provided excellent service, the meal was good portions and better than any Italian food you will get in nearby Stanley Street. If you are looking for value for money, great tasting food and an enjoyable dinning experience you must try Pastizzi Café. Can’t wait to dine here again.

You will find that Oxford Street has a wide selection of late night food options, but most of them are places you want to avoid. Three day old pizza slices, greasy kababs, fast food chicken burgers… blah. Skip it and upgrade to a pastizzi next time you’re out. They are serving up $ 2 pastizzis all night. Choose a few different ones, and they’ll heat them up and bring them to you. I haven’t been here for any other meals yet, but would be willing to try it.
