Usually, I bring my own picnic to Somerville but I will get out of that habit now that I’ve discovered how good the catering is on site. I was really impressed by the consistent quality of Charlie’s hand made, wood fired pizzas, especially the ‘Somerville’ topped with generous portions of shaved ham, pineapple, pepperoni, mushrooms and kalamata olives — outstanding! My picnic basket will be languishing at home this season… more Charlies Pizzas for me!

Based at Somerville Theatre in UWA for the Perth Festival for the summer, Charlie’s Pizza like no other. It is not covered in greasy cheese and toppings or leave you regretting your decision 10 minutes later. These wood fired pizza’s are super fresh and made from local ingredients. The hand rolled base with homemade tomato sauce was just right as are the delicious toppings– prosciutto and truffle oil, smoked salmon and rocket, Australian prawns marinated in garlic and olive oil and the classic Margherita. I’m hungry just explaining it to you, so get down and try them, you won’t be disappointed!

I was lucky enough to try a variety of Charlie’s Pizza when I came for the latest Elite event. The dough is perfect — better than most places I’ve tried. Not too thick or thin with a great crunch where necessary. I tried the smoked salmon and rocket, blue pumpkin, pepperoni and an amazing proscuitto pizza. Ingredients were top notch and full of flavour — I loved that Proscuitto pizza and the spicy pepperoni. I would return again and highly recommend it — although it is quite pricey I think on a date night it is worth the decadence!

This mobile vendor is located at Perth Festival’s Somerville at UWA for the whole summer season. Throughout winter they can be found at large-scale regional events. Using only the best local ingredients and cooked in their wood-fired oven, their pizza is pretty tasty! I have tried quite a few, including their ‘Somerville’. My favourite is the margherita, so simple yet so delicious, and also the prosciutto and truffle oil. Prices range from $ 18 – 25, I would definitely have one when I’m next at Somerville. They also do salads and meatballs — the meatballs looked particular enticing!
