One of the best coffee shops in the area. I just wish their takeaway coffees were as well made as the stay-in ones. Also tried their cinnamon sugar cronut, which was comparable to, if not, better than some bakeries.

You really can’t go wrong with Toby’s Estate and the locals in the area seem to agree. Stopping by this place every so often on my way to work the line outside the takeaway coffee counter was always at least 5 people deep and inside was bustling, weekdays and weekends! Go along and you’ll find out why. Great coffee, great food and a great ambiance. You can see them roasting the coffee beans out the back in the factory from the windows inside the café so you know that it’s going to be good. They’ve got a host of pre-made sandwiches and cakes in the window of the takeaway counter which are never soggy and are always fresh and change flavours every week. The only disappointing thing from there was their bacon and egg roll. I just don’t agree with putting bernaise sauce on a bacon and egg roll… too creamy. But if that’s really the only bad thing then they’re doing alright. The staff are really friendly and the inside of the café looks like it has been freshly renovated with bench seats looking out over busy City Road and Victoria Park, perfect for people watching whilst you sip a latte and read the paper!

I LOVE breakfast. It’s my favourite meal of the day to eat out. And when I can walk in to a café or restaurant and the service ambiance, coffee and food are all great(and reasonably priced) I can not ask for anything more. This was my first time at Toby’s Estate and it certainly won’t be my last. Located up the road from Newtown(between Cleveland St and Broadway) it was easy to park my motorbike out front(Sunday morning) and enjoy this delicious meal. Not taking any stars off for this place — I couldn’t fault it. It just takes a lot for me to I’ve FIVESTARS. For the location and the price point, I was still waiting for that BAW-WOW factor. I’ll re-review I I ever get it.

I have to admit, I had doubts about Toby’s estate. We hadn’t been here before last weekend and we had had a string of bad eating experiences prior but it was pretty damn awesome. Not too full, nice music, fantastic salads(I know, «you don’t win friends with…» — but the spinach, pumpkin and beetroot was amazing). And of course, the coffee was perfect. The staff were really friendly but didn’t crowd you, said goodbye at the end and it was well-priced. Colour me impressed.

As far as a café goes this place has great coffee and friendly staff– however not too much ambience. Does remind you that it is a bit more of a space for tobys estate staff to practice their up selling skills on the mass of products… So it lacks the feeling of an intimate café. But next time I feel like a good coffee I guess I am there!

Every now and then I enjoy going there for breakfast. The service has always been good and food/coffee are great! As the place usually gets crowded it’s good to go early if you want a spot ;)

During my visit to Sydney, I made it a point to try a new café every day I was there. Of all the cafes, Toby’s Estate had the best coffee – hands down. So good, that I gave in and went twice. Great service and great space. They roast their beans on site and you can get a peek of the process through a window in back by the bathrooms. Still dreaming about that long black to this day… sigh…

Parked a block away from Toby’s Estate, the smell of roasting coffee beans hit me from the moment I opened the door. The smell got stronger as we got closer, until the toast-like aroma(my boyfriend always wonders why he craves toast when we drive by) morphed into caffeine as we walked in the doors. Sadly, we were informed as we entered that the kitchen was closing and so we couldn’t order any food(at only 2pm). This was disappointing, as the sandwiches sounded pretty tasty. The empty Specials board was similarly disheartening. Hungry and somewhat dejected, we decided to stay for a coffee anyway and hope that this would get us through to our new lunch location. Our faces lit up though when the waitress, sensing our disappointment, brought us over some caramel slice, «hopefully this helps a bit!» Despite its unfortunate City Rd location, Toby’s happens to have a pretty nice view of Victoria Park. The interior is nice, the walls doused in blackboard paint, and the workers are happy to help you select your beans, educating you on the differences between the varieties. Whilst the coffee wasn’t too bad, it didn’t live up to Toby’s brilliant reputation. And, considering the shelves of coffee merchandise(machines, tamps, cups, and at least 12 different types of take-home beans), the coffee should really be up there. Perhaps if my expectations hadn’t been set so high, I wouldn’t have been disappointed. From memory Toby’s was a pretty nice place to be. Sadly, this time it failed to impress.

Do you like flies? Not the fried kind(what is wrong with you?) but the ones just in their natural habitat. You may(or may not — really, this isn’t a wildlife park, I’m just giving you advance heads-up In The Event) encounter a fly or two here. But don’t fret. What you need to do is swat. No, not SWAT. No one’s asking you to join the special weapons and tactics team for the purpose, just swat the darn thing away. Honest to God, the coffee is worth it. And the staff are an awesome team and exceptionally nice. And you will find not vagabonds but intellectuals and professionals and students and maybe even SWAT teams here. The café is situated directly opposite The University of Sydney and what can I say, you’re not going to find campus coffee here. It’s Toby’s Estate. In the Hamptons in the US that will mean something else but here in Sydney that stands for coffee that will make your cheeks hurt(because you’re smiling so much). They also have sandwiches and sweets and cool-looking coffee machines for sale. There’s also reading material if you forget to bring your fake(to fit in) study material along. If you’re driving by car, take note that you can only park on City Road till 3pm. After that expect to get a little note from the parking police. Best bet is to turn left into the first road you see after you pass the café and park somewhere around there.
