What is impressive about«Hatch» is not the coffee. Don’t get me wrong — the coffee is good(it’s Grinders), and is espressed well by the barista, but the main thing that is a stand out at this little hole-in-the-wall(or Hatch) are the menu items. They’re unique in café land. 1. Hatch has one of the best bacon and egg rolls in the city. 2. Hatch makes its own Middle Eastern savory pastries for — and I am not joking — $ 2. The B&E roll is a long baguette with two eggs and heaps of bacon drizzled with your choice of sauce(BBQ or tomato). It’s $ 5(yes $ 5). It’s filling, it’s good, it has lots of bacon(get the point)? But I urge you all that the must tries are the freshly baked savories — there’s the mini meat«pie»(a pide) topped with minced beef; onion; tomato; spices and pomegranate molasses, the three cheese pie stuffed with feta; halloumi and mozzarella, and finally, the spinach and feta pie. All three are great breakfast or snack options for those with only a couple of gold coins in their pocket. If you are in the Chippendale area don’t let it’s hatch put you off — you will get on of the best coffees and snacks in the area.

This coffee shop hole-in-the-wall is fairly new and it’s good enough that it made me switch from my usual coffee place for my morning coffee, even though the coffee is 50 cents more expensive(it all adds up over time!). They have free samples of manakish(dough topped with thyme or cheese) which is great as a mid-morning snack. They also have breakfast wraps and cheese and spinach and meat pide etc. The staff are enthusiastic and friendly which puts me in a good mood for the day.
