A pretty good cellar door if you ask me! They tick all the boxes; –beautiful grand entrance –stunning vineyard scenery –ample dining options –wood fire –lots of cool & quirky giftware –free tastings! This was an extremely busy cellar door which is not surprising given how much they offer. We didn’t have to wait too long to find a spot along the bar where we were treated to knowledgeable wine tastings. The servings were extremely generous and she let us taste a few off the menu! If you ask nicely you can also try the tawney &40 year old aged port. A great spot to get a few wines into you!

I came here as a guest for a corporate function of a well known company a friend works for. The set-up was outside on the grass, with a gourmet bbq lunch, entertainment and games. The food provided and cooked by Sandalford was very tasty and plentiful. We even got ti do a thirty minute winery tour, guising us through the ‘behind the scenes’ and showing us the restauants and vineyards etc. what a lovely place and beautiful setting :)

The sear popularity of the cellar door at Sandleford can mean huge queues if you happen to visit when a bus tour arrives, however this too is a sign that they put on a good show. The wine is of course very good, and the staff are both knowledgeable and friendly; even at their busiest they endeavour to spend time equally with the patrons and not outwardly focus on high pressure sales tactics. Be mindful not to explore the little shop for the nicknacks as you almost certainly do not need these things, nor want to pay the price :)

Today I had an unfortunate experience at the cellar door. I attempted to use the 30% discount voucher from the entertainment book, to be told that the server could do a better ‘weekend’ price. I then purchased a case of reserve Chardonnay for $ 147 plus credit card surcharge, as I walked out I noticed the price per case was $ 150, so I questioned her and the manager why I couldn’t just use the voucher and receive the 30% off which would be $ 105. The manager told me that the voucher is only for ‘regular’ price bottles, when in fact the regular price for a case is $ 150, that anyone off the street could buy. I explained this and she said no you have received 50c off per bottle!!! This is ridiculous as the obvious deception and false advertising is at play here. To get the maximum $ 500 voucher value if would need to purchase 1000 bottles, which is laughable.

According to my palate, Sandalford has some of the best wines in the world! I’ve been here on a tour two different times and they consistently impressed so much that I came back to confiscate some bottles to the other side of the known world!

I’m reviewing the outdoor concert aspect of Sandalford Winery and, like I indicated with stars; ‘Yay! I’m a fan’. I had the delight of attending a Michael Buble concert here last year and it really was a superb venue for a great night. Bubble(as we like to call him) rocked our world and the elegant and stately grounds of Sandalford made the evening truly special and memorable. A massive number of people attended and, very unfortunately, portaloos were required. Although, as far as the ever-dreaded portaloo goes, they were actually not too terrifying. There were ample staff employed to cope with the large crowd and although there were obviously lines to top up the food and bevvy quota, they weren’t too bad. We chose to bring the majority of our food so we could max and relax with an old school picnic. This proved to be a bloody bonza idea. We spread out picnic rugs, chairs, delicious bounty and epitomised all things Aussie. OK, well spotted hyperbole. Some things Aussie. I was particularly worried about getting out of the place at the end of the evening and feared we might be held up for an insurmountable number of hours. Luckily, Sandalford had this under conrtol and the exiting procedure flowed smoothly and easily. We probably waited in the car park for about 15 minutes. Not too shabby for such an event with a big international act. This year I notice Duran Duran and George Michael will be gracing Sandalford with their presence. I might have to grace the winery with my presence again…
