I honestly think this is currently the best gelato shop in Melbourne. Yes there is always a line in front of the shop but its definitely worth the wait The range of flavours caters for most. My favorite is coconut and watermelon. Th coconut is lighty and creamy. Watermelon taste like real watermelon without being too sweet. None of that artificial tasting crap Seriously you gotta check it out

Pretty awesome indeed. more of a gelato/Dairy destination with some quite opulent flavours than a sorbet outlet. Sorbet is limited, though the passion-fruit is very fresh and tasty, and there’s usually a selection of around 12 semi-frozen delights. Small shop space, often with very loud music.

Join the queue! Get on board the latest gelato paradise in Carlton, Pidapipó. I can’t pronounce the name of this place, but it doesn’t matter. The gelato is spectacular. Founded by a family member of Carlton institution King & Godfree, this gelateria has cemented its place as part of the Italian culture that makes Carton a great spot to meet with friends. There are usually a handful of flavours available, all of which are a good choice.

Summer & ice cream & fresh flavours = happy tastebuds. Originally opening as a popup, pidapipo has been running in its current permanent home for a while now. Almost always packed with people looking to satisfy their ice cream cravings, it never takes long to get served even when you see a huge line out front. I always love trying a few different ones before settling on a cone of something tasty. You can also get a cup of ice cream if you want to be boring(I don’t get what everyone sees in cups over cones!). The highlights for me are usually the gelato made with fresh seasonal fruit. Mint, honeycomb, watermelon, peach, passionfruit and blood orange have all been delicious creations in the past. Coffee is also a safe bet. There is a liquid chocolate tap if you are keen on getting an even bigger sugar hit. Bring on summer!

No where near the number of flavours that Messina has BUT super quality vs quantity. Doesn’t have the queues like any of the Messina’s I’ve been to in Melbourne or Sydney but I would still catch a plane from perth to enjoy this. Gets an extra point for creating a hole in my ice cream and filling it with warm Nutella… winning…

This place has amazing unique icecream and gelato flavours. You must go in early or the beat flavours get sold out. Real fruit pieces and smooth icecream. Couldn’t ask for something better on a hot summer day.

For those who love a good, solid gelato then you’ll have to come try Pidapipó. Located towards the end of Lygon St, this gelataria opens in time for an after-lunch dessert, until late. If you’re a fan of the classics you can expect good things from the pistachio, fior di latte and hazelnut while new age connoisseurs will enjoy the salted caramel and peanut butter flavours. The gelato is creamy, smooth and velvety with amazing flavour. Expect to spend $ 4 a scoop or if you’re like me and can’t decide between flavours, $ 6 for two scoops and $ 7 for three.

The first time I tried Pidapipo, I was not impressed. We had the nutella swirl and it literally just tasted like vanilla with some nutella on top. But we decided to give this place a few more chances and just fell in love! Their nut flavors are fabulous — hazelnut and pistachio are delectable. The bacio is amazing as well — my favorite! The best thing about Pidapipo is that they are very generous about scoops — $ 4 goes a long way(unlike Messina!) Also I feel like their ice cream doesn’t melt as quickly but that is just an observation.

I was expecting some unusual flavours here but on my visit they seemed fairly«normal». I don’t mean boring, but rather they were flavours I’ve seen made elsewhere. Of course the proof of the pudding is in the tasting, or in this case the proof of the gelati is in the scoffing kerbside as soon as you leave the store. The peanut butter gelati was amazing — great flavour and texture and I yearned to pair it with something banana flavoured. Instead I went with the grapefruit sorbet. It was zingy, though if argue that the texture was a little icy and not as smooth as I’ve had elsewhere(*cough* gelati primavera *cough*) Worth a visit if you’re a gelati fan and in the area.

I was headed to an ultra fancy restaurant on Drummond and knew it was going to cost a fortune, so I kept my eyes peeled for a «buffer» appetizer on the way so I wouldn’t be going on an empty stomach. I thought Pidapippo was a coffee/juice café, but quickly realized they only sell gelato. I’m super loyal to Gelato Messina, but was half-starved, so I went for a single scoop of chocolate. I feel so dirty for cheating, but it was even better than Messina. If you want the real test, go down the street to something like Gelatissimo that serves what could be described as frozen flavored grit and then try this stuff.
