Nobody does fresh pasta quite like Donnini. Expect to find over 60 different varieties of pasta open entering. Long, short, round fat, stuffed you name it. Donnini were one of the first pasta makers to set up shop on Lygon street in Australia. Linguini, tortellini, ravioli, anagilotti, lasagna sheets, squid ink pasta, whole meal pasta, alphabet pasta and the list goes on. All pasta is hand made on the premises.

I’m a huge fan of pasta, especially when it’s fresh. I often make my own, but sometimes I really can’t be stuffed going through the whole process of making my own. Donnini’s in Lygon St is a great option for those who can’t be bothered making fresh pasta. It is as close as I have found to home made. Donnini’s also sell sauces, which really gives you a complete meal, and a healthy, fast alternative to takeaway. I personally love the ravioli’s, though I am yet to try the tortellinis. They are next on my list! They have every type of pasta imaginable, from shells to penne, to plain spagetti. All is made fresh and dried daily.

I adore pasta, and most nights that’s what I want for dinner. I don’t mind the store bought stuff or even a bit of takeaway. But every now and then, for something extra special, I take a trip down to Donninis and fill up on some of the real stuff. Sure it’s not as cheap, but hey, the moment you try some of their ravioli or fresh made sauces, you’ll know exactly why it’s worth every cent. The Pumpkin & Almond Agnolotti is one of my all time favourites, and the Pappardelle with Saffron and Pepper is perfect for special occasions. If the choices on offer here seem a little overwhelming or if you don’t know what one of the pastas are, just ask the friendly workers, I’ve done it tonnes of times and they don’t mind. Once I even bought various pasta, spaghetti and ravioli and made a little gift box for a friend of mine. It was absolute genus I tell you, because I was invited over to test some of her creations. And that’s a win-win situation if you ask me.
