I didn’t know that selling some organic produce, that you could almost get in any other small trendy grocer in Melbourne, meant that staff had to be rude. I really do not know that is happening in Melbourne, however every shop that is set up like Clay employees rude and non friendly staff. Are we doing you a favour or should the customer feel privileged to shop in your store. First time customer and it will be the last time. Don’t need organic that badly! What a bad shopping experience.

When shop staff think they are to trendy to be friendly, shop someplace else!

They have a nice variety of healthy looking fruits & veggies. There are also plenty of options for vegetarians & vegans! If you are already in the area and only need a few things — I do recommend you visit. *Don’t forget your own bags, box or basket* This place isn’t big & can get crowed quickly :( Unfortunately the staff wasn’t very friendly — not rude — just didn’t greet you or make any small talk as you pay for your items. As well, there was a mark-up on items that I like and buy often. Only by a dollar or two but I understand they are a tiny business & probably can’t compete with bigger stores.

When I’m middle-aged with a bucket of cash and several well-behaved children I plan to be one of those awesome mothers who feeds their family the absolute best of the best. Therefore I would be getting my groceries from Clay. This gorgeous little store nestled amongst the cafes of Rathdowne street specialises in organic foods and those with special diets(think vegetarians or vegans.) They have the absolute freshest produce that is so bright and colourful you know that it is good for you — only yesterday I picked up some freshly cut watermelon that was at its ripest. It can be a little pricey, but that is the price of quality. So go on, feed your middle-aged woman fantasies and pick up your next batch of groceries from this stunning little health store.

Clays is an organic grocer and fine food store that sells everything from herbal medications to organic wines. The guy who runs the place is really nice, and as he’s a massive foodie, he clearly knows a lot about their stock. The fresh produce at Clays is top quality, and they’ve begun offering fruit and vegetable box delivery, which my house has taken up. Every Tuesday we receive a big box of whatever fruits and vegetables are in season and look the best quality on the day. This has been really good for us, because it’s forced us to learn how to cook with vegetables that we wouldn’t normally buy, which has really broadened our repertoire. I’ve never eaten so healthy in my life! The service is really inexpensive for what you get as well(we pay $ 45 total per week for a very decent sized box of organic produce, including delivery). Clays also has an amazing selection of cheeses, all of which that I’ve tasted have been insanely good! So if you’re enthusiastic about quality food, definitely check out Clays.

The super helpful staff really was the icing on the cake at Clay’s. It has similar traits to other health food stores but they’ve hit the nail on the head. First of all, they display their products so nicely you actually want to shop there. Health food stores tend to have a bad habit of jamming every single shelf space with a giant amount of variety. Going shopping in them can seem like pulling your little hobbit body around a cave in Mount Doom. As though you’re intolerances have caused you to have to forage for food. Natural light pours into the store, making shopping for all your healthy products so much more enjoyable. For a small store, it has pretty wide selection, and instead of just bulking up on one of two main brands like many other health stores do, they pick the finest and do that clever visual-merchandising thing that means when you look at one thing, you can’t help but notice the other. It’s wonderful! Plus have a fridge for your all your organic meat and yoghurt needs. They also stock natural cleaners and creams for your body and kitchen sinks. The staff were wonderful and they really know what they’re talking about. I mentioned I had fructose malabsorption and they gave me some great advice on how to manage it. At Clay’s, you don’t feel like you’ve been abandoned by society to a warehouse full of strange tasting breads, but welcomed, faults and all.
