Whenever I get sad, or bored, or a need to reconnect with my country, I go to a chicken shop. Along with RSLs and milk bars, chicken shops are the beating heart of this great country. A little slice of Australiana liberally doused in disturbingly yellow chicken salt, they help ensure my dreams are grounded in reality and that, unlike Icarus, I will not fly too close to the sun. Plus they feel like home and my childhood. And my Wise Chook experience was five-star faultless. Yep. Five stars. Here’s why: tons of newspapers and magazines artfully arranged to browse while you stuff your face with protein and sip your cup of gravy. Delicious medium-cut hot chips served in a wire basket, I got the ‘small’ serving for $ 4 and barely finished those bad boyz. Great sauces — I got the hot chilli at $ 1/tub and this guy was home-made up the wazoo, spicy as with a roast pepper flavour that rounded it off realllll nice homeslice. NExt time I’ll be all up in the smoked paprika aoli. Free wi-fi! The guy behind the counter trotted over when he saw me open my computer and gave me the login, didn’t even have to ask. The whole experience was like I was the secret boss on that Undercover Boss TV show and they were trying to impress the pants off me. Mission accomplished!

I really want to write great things about this shop but can only say it has great potential. I think it’s a good product. My peri peri burger was actually delicious and the chips are perfect. Like has been said above they they messed up one segment of our order though so the timing was out and that was annoying. The female staff were excellent, friendly and efficient though there was a male there who had know clue what he was doing. I will go back. The food is yummy. Hopefully it’s just opening wrinkles that need ironing out.

I tried a chicken burger. I was not a fan. It was made with lots(maybe 6 – 8) of small pieces of chicken. I think a «chicken burger» should be made with a fillet, not small pieces. It was hard to eat as the small pieces of chicken kept falling out. Flavour was good, but I wouldn’t try another one.
