Frozen yoghurt! Yummoo! A refreshing place to pop in after dinner at one of the many restaurants on lygon st. We often skip dessert and head here! Not exactly cheap when you think about it. But who cares. It’s yum. And the pearls are a must!

Frozen yoghurt is massive in Melbourne these days and, now that the summer is setting and the weather is warming up(barred the odd cool days that are so typical of Melbourne); joints like Yummoo, Cacao Green or Yozen will be very busy. I went there with a lady friend on a Sunday arvo. It was sunny and quite warm so the perfect conditions to have a cup of these bad boys. In line with other frozen yoghurt stores, Yummoo charges you according to the weight of your cup or cone. They have about 8 flavours namely: chocolate, coconut, hazelnut, mango, original and a couple more. They also offer heaps of toppings — gummy bears, strawberry jellies, almonds, chocolate sauce etc. I went to chocolate and coconut w/gummy bears and strawberry jellies. It was quite good. She had chocolate, coconut and hazelnut and I tried a bit of the last one and that was nice as well. It didn’t cost us too much either. I think we forked out about $ 9 in total which is quite good given that our cups both had a bit in them. Located on in my neck of the woods on Lygon Street in Brunswick East, Yummoo is a really cool place to hang out and chill on a warm sunny arvo. The only downside I guess is the fact that they don’t have restrooms so that’s a bit of a pain.

Frozen yoghurt has taken over Melbourne; Yummoo is one of the reasons why. Delicious frozen yoghurt in 8 flavours, with a range of healthy and naughty toppings of your choosing to make the ultimate desert. Yummoo focuses solely on one thing: Frozen Yoghurt. The store is modern, staff are friendly and even give you free tastings of their yoghurt before you fill your cup to your hearts delight. I am frequently given free samples and once I tried 3 different yoghurt flavours and 2 toppings before I bought anything. Price is determined by the weight of your finished creation: $ 2.80 per 100g. You can even take home prepackaged tubs of froyo to enjoy at home. They have 98% fat free and sugar free(stevia) yoghurt, and I am told they are looking into moving all their flavours onto stevia in the future. So you can enjoy your low kj yoghurt and put as many chocolate coated goji berries, oreos and caramel sauce toppings as you like! Its also 100% HALAL certified. They are a relatively new and hip dessert bar that targets the youthful segment of the market; pour your own froyo; pick as many or as few toppings as you like, decorate it yourself and pay at the counter, and you’re done! No sitting around for ages waiting for your desert to come and you are not overwhelmed with so many ridiculous unrelated options for dessert. The only other food option you have is churros. As for drinks, you can only buy bottled water. It would be nice to have another healthy option such as coconut water. Yummoo is not as culturally established as a meeting place as the Gelobar next door, but it is becoming quite popular. It doesn’t sell coffee, but as a night time dessert bar, you wouldn’t want to have coffee interrupting your bedtime anyway. This is the ultimate place to go for spontaneous dessert. They have free wifi, but you need to ask for the password. Opening hours are generous and its open seven days a week.

Yummoo is the latest fro yo joint to hit Melbourne inner north. It’s sleek, it’s got the smörgåsbord topping buffet, and it’s got churros. During opening night Yummoo generously opened its door to passer by to taste all their fro-yo’s(I counted 8 different flavours) Although they have great toppings(plus plus points for chocolate sauce mmmmmm), I think they’re fro yo flavours are nothing to be excited about and still no match compared to other fro-yo places(Damn you Southies! — yes you know who you are).
