*Review incomplete Typical Chinese restaurant with a typical menu. Nothing really exciting to brag about and service was a little slow.

If you are seeking middle of the road cuisine served hot and in good time then this is a good place to dine out. However be sure to avoid Anh Minh if you are looking to impress. The restaurant presents a dirty and run down ambiance with the complement of tired looking waiters, creating a «please eat and leave» mood. The food I would give three stars, and only because of how affordable it is. The dining experience however is worthy of two. This is an okay place to dine with those who wouldn’t judge you if you took them to McDonald’s.

I have lunch here often as the food quality is good and the prices range from $ 8 – 15. The Phở is great. The chef is Vietnamese but spent years in Thailand which influences the cooking. The staff are very nice and friendly.

Offering a variety of Chinese and Vietnamese delicacies and dishes, Anh Minh can often be found full on any night of the week. The vibe is formal enough to keep out the crazies, while casual enough to keep in the good times. You may find yourself waiting for your meal longer than expected. And what could be better than the healthy serving sizes with all manner of spices and plusses? Licensed BYO. That’s right, choose your poison and come in for a good one.

If you’re after authentic Vietnamese flavours then this probably isn’t the place to go. I’m not sure if Anh Minh would last too long if it was up against the eateries on Victoria Street, but then, we’re not in Richmond, and asian eateries are few are far between in Brunswick East by comparison, so I’ll take what we can get I guess. I ordered the curry laksa and it was ok. I was full for less than $ 10, so I’ve no cause for complaint. My man ordered the Thai style seafood salad and I’d say that he ordered better than I did. The prawns were big, crunchy and fresh and the salad was quite sizeable with good zing. In hindsight, ordering a laksa in a restaurant claiming to be Vietnamese/Chinese was a bizarre move. You live and learn. Our friend opted for the pad thai, which was disappointingly sweet. It’s always nice to see new Asian restaurants in the area(and it’s BYO too) so I will be back to support them, but I won’t be rushing back because I’m willing to travel a little further to enjoy more authentic flavours.
