Food was quite good. 7⁄10 Cocktails not so great. 5⁄10. Décor and atmosphere somewhat similar to a London Underground tube carriage, maybe 3⁄10. The service 5⁄10. Among other things who trains waiters to remove the plate of one guest while the other is eating? We had dinner. I’d imagine it would be a better breakfast place. It’s a shame. Great name, great idea but poor execution.

Hands down the best coffee I found anywhere in Brisbane was at Sensor Labs attached to Asana. However, I digress… I enjoyed breakfast here, the service was efficient and the atmosphere bright and airy. I’m not sure where the bacon and smoked salmon they use comes from but it’s some of the best I’ve ever had, the food is clean and nourishing… not your average breakfast buffet.

Wow. We really enjoyed our meal at Asana’s the restaurant in Brisbane by chef Pete Evans. The space is a little noisy and they don’t offer mocktails. Instead there is an extensive wine and cocktail list. They serve coffee by Sensory Lab. We ate our way through beef carpaccio, lamb ribs, barramundi and sweet potato fries. It’s the ideal place if you are following a paleo diet or just avoiding gluten and dairy. The pizza and burgers were tempting. I finished my meal off with chocolate rocky road inspired ice block. Delicious. The décor is modern with a living green wall and origami sculptures. Ask for a bench seat and book ahead. @capribrisbane @chefpeteevans @yelpBNE

I loved my experience eating here. The food was full of flavour, fresh and well priced. Best meal I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time and as a bonus all Paleo! I look forward to a branch opening in Sydney n

After all the hype around Paleo I had to try it, so this was my first experience. This restaurant is at the ground floor of the Capri hotel, a fairly casual setting. I was a walkin on a Thursday evening and had no problem securing a table. Service was efficient, friendly and fast. The ambiance leaves a bit to be desired, very café /lunchroom style and rather noisey(as a walk-in you get to sit next to the families with small kids). Food was average; I went for the chicken schnitzel(large serving but very, very dry and rather bland) and coleslaw(which was surisingly tasty). At $ 28 for this dish I had expected more flavour. It was filing, but I will give Paleo a miss in the future! My tastebuds require more action!

The atmosphere at Asana by Pete Evans is somewhere between bistro and fine dinning, with the latter being mostly thanks to the very friendly staff. In terms of food, Asana follows the Paleo trend, however not all dishes are Paleo by default. For example the pizza need to be specifically ordered as Paleo version with almond meal base & cashew cheese. I prefer my pizza classic, so we ordered the standard wild mushroom pizza with rocket & taleggio cheese to share and the kingfish and octopus as individual starters. The cured yellow tailed kingfish with smoked almonds, beetroot bavarois, fermented radish, coriander and yuzu dressing was the standout amongst the three dishes. In particular the beetroot & radish were delicious, and the dish as a whole was wonderfully balanced. The other two dishes how’re did not live up to the same standard. The chargrilled octopus with chorizo, pork crisp and harissa was overall a nice dish, in particular the spicy sausage pieces coated in harissa were very tasty. But the octopus itself was a little bit on the tough side, and aside from being another crunchy element aside from the additional pickle, the pork crisp did not add to it. The pizza was the least favourite dish in our selection. The toppings were not well balanced, with too much mushrooms including as a fairly bland paste and not enough salty cheese to cut through it. The spelt flour base didn’t impress either. Overall, dining at Asana was pleasant, and as a hotel guest I’d probably have been very happy with it. But as I’m not, it won’t make the list of my favourite places in Brissy & I’d definitely won’t order a pizza here again.

Ok! So I’ve never been to a Pete Evans café. I love my kitchen rules and was excited about finally being able to try his food. However I have to say, it was only OK. The menu, with its paleo friendly food, is a little pretentious, and had the food tasted fantastic, i would say it’s adventurous, even avant garde. But it was lacking something… pleasant enough, but nothing spectacular. I had the terrine and did not find this pleasant, but my friend’s pork belly was well cooked with a nice flavour. The dessert — coconut pans cotta was good and well presented. I give this a 6⁄10 for the main, 7⁄10 for dessert.
