Spice I Am has the most delicious stir fry vegetables I’ve ever had at a Thai restaurant. I can also recommend the duck massaman on the Specials menu. Will definitely being go back here, even if it’s a little pricier than your average Thai.

Strolling along Darling Street with no plan and a vague idea to get a meal and have a massive catch-up session, I squealed when I saw Spice I Am, because of how much I love their Darlinghurst location. Best Thai food EVER!!! So we sat down outside, gorgeous night. The spring rolls were a bit blah but the other appetizer we chose was amazing… betel leaf and shrimp? SOGOOD! We also had the best green curry ever and an amazing lemongrass chicken salad. Seriously, the green curry here is one of the best I’ve ever had. I remember having similar sentiments after dining at the Darlinghurst location. Spice I Am is amazing.

If you’re sick of missing out on a table at Spice I am in Surry Hills, the Balmain incarnation of this restaurant is usually a lot easier. It is a bigger space, and less well known. Like its Mumma restaurant, at the Balmain version the food is very similar — hot-damn excellent. Zing sizzle slurp goop crunch spicy yumminess. I did feel like the Balmain restaurant was a bit fancier than the Surry Hills one — and more frequented by folks in my parents’ age group. So maybe it’s not as edgy as the restaurant in the hills of slurry — so my review takes off half a star for boring atmosphere. But whatever, it’s Spice I Am, it’s super! 4.5 stars.
