I think a review needs to match the place youre reviewing. If I walked in expecting a 5 star restaurant then I’d be disappointed, but recharging café arent marketing themselves as a 5 star restaurant now are they?! As far as a burger shop at the corner shop these guys are doing well. Service is great and food is as good as a $ 7 burger gets! Décor could have a little extra thought about it to make it a little«cooler» or «hip» but my burger rocked and my waiter is smiling! Keeping it old school — not bad!

Recharging Café acts as more than just a simple café. The food consists mainly of tuck shop staples and you can get a pretty decent cheap burger and chips combo. While it handles these basics of café fare cheaply and effectively, the café also features a rack of books, DVDs, videos, and CDs for people to borrow. I’m not precisely sure what system the lending options operate under(I’m inclined to say the ‘honour system’) but it all creates a neighbourly feel to the premises. Beyond this, Recharging also hosts a number of English Second Language classes for community members to participate in. The name is actually pretty apt: this café is perfect for stumbling down the street, and recharging after an overnight drunk over a burger easily purchased with your loose change from the night before.

As you’ll see from this café’s interior, this is not the most stylish of cafes. Decorated with a hotch-potch of ornaments, plastic flowers, posters, kids toys and pictures of customers this café seems much more interested with being the friendly local than winning any gastro-awards. Their specialty is cheap and cheerful burgers($ 7.50) which they’ll stick in a polystyrene box for you to take out. I was in for a quick bite at breakfast time so was able to see that the couple that run this place really do have a foothold in the community as everyone cheerily waves as they pass. Thinking a banana bread was probably the wisest option as I worried just how fried deeply fried the breakfast options would be, I bought a slice of that to sit in. It’s hard to get this wrong, but my slice had this faint taste of meat about it. Banana bread should never taste of meat, and I began to feel a bit sick… As nice as they are, I don’t think I’ll be eating here again.
