Well, if you want to watch sports in Adelaide then you simply cannot go past the Rosemont. Okay, I would hardly call is flash — in fact it is anything but, though I must say that it no longer has the reputation that it did years ago when it was the New Century. However, if you are a sports nut you can generally(though not always — they don’t show lawn bowls, or curling) find it on at the Rosemont. Come a big game and this place will be absolutely packed(and there have been times that I have just managed to squeeze it — usually for some random soccer match that a friend has dragged me along to watch). Mind you, we have had some late nights at this place, namely because we simply couldn’t agree on anything else(I wanted music and my mate wanted … well, we will leave it at that). Okay, it certainly isn’t my venue of choice, but you will certainly find it open(within reason — they do have lockout laws in Adelaide) and they have even introduced a couple of craft beers(which so of kills the authenticity of the place). Seriously, the only reason I give it three stars is because it is reliable.

Awesome sports pub in the middle of Hindley in the West End of Adelaide, which shows all my favorite soccer games on many TVs with a great atmosphere. Being a big soccer fan, this pub is good hangout, especially during certain competitions, like the World Cup, ACL etc. During the World Cup, they decked the place out on Aussie merchandise, ran little competitions, had good drink specials and the best crowd(whoever managed to fit in). The pub itself is quite old, but still nice and the facilities are ok. It’s no raging Saturday night club, but it serves it’s purpose.

Just a stones throw from 2 family restaurants lies The Rosemont — The in between-er of the 2 major American Embassies of Adelaide — the ‘Golden Arches.’ Day life and night life merge into one, as this place is open from Dusk until Dawn. The bar offers Daytona, Buck-hunter, and pool tables for those that like their non-contact sports. Their beers are genuine 1973 prices, so you’re in for some heavy lifting regardless. Whether you tune into Gaelic Football, Rugby, Lawn Bowls, or the old sheep dog trials hosted by John Waters, there’s a sports channel for you. Who’s Keno? I am :)

I’m not a dyed-in-the-wool sports fan, nor am I a pool player and nor am I really into playing the pokies. Despite — or perhaps because of — my hipsterishness, I have however tried to acquire a taste for all three of these things. The Rosemont isn’t exactly a regular of mine. But occasionally when I’ve had a few free wines at an opening and am heading back to the east side of Hindley — or when I’ve had a few more beers and I’m heading somewhere on the west side of Hindley — I stop at the Rosemont to drink their cheap long island ice teas(Thursday nights) or to try and learn how to play pool adequately. In true sports bar style, the murky red carpet and the multitude of tv screens and flashy pokies usually makes me dizzy before I’ve even had my first drink there. To put it politely, it’s a pretty rowdy place. This suits me fine past 9pm, but in the middle of the day when I walk past I do feel a bit uncomfortable. Top tip: You don’t usually need more than one cheap long island ice tea.
