I love the sushi train idea — it’s brilliant and works — IF there’s enough turnover for the food. We got there at 12 Noon and some of the food on the ‘train’ looked like it had been there from the day prior! It wasn’t very nice at all. The prices are not displayed and the ‘menu’ is not a menu — it shows what you CAN get, but certainly not what you WILL get… I won’t be returning.

I love a sushi train environment. .. eyeballing the plates as they make their way towards me. .. mentally barsing a plate. .. only to have it scooped up by someone further up the platform. Fortunately, this didn’t happen on this occasion. Space is quite tight but the guy who was next to me left fairly quickly so I had a bit more elbow room. The format is a little different from Sushi Train in that the cost per coloured plate isn’t displayed and the pictorial menu has the prices instead which is a little more difficult to calculate your budget #dyscalculia I had a fried tempura batter-y thing, followed by a tuna sashimi plate, veg gyoza dumplings and then another fried tempura batter-y thing on request. All tasty and enjoyable. A little less selection than Sushi Train, I think — could do with more chicken and vegetarian options and perhaps sliiiightly more expensive but not noticeably. Would also like personal ginger and wasabi supplies rather than scooping them off the train as it goes past. Still, the open format in the middle of the Regent Arcade means for good air flow so you don’t return to work reeking of tempura, a definite plus for me.

Visiting Adelaide for the weekend with my Mother and we needed a quick lunch in between activities. Wandered past Michiru and decided to give it a try because it looked nice and clean and the Sushi looked fresh. Service was great for a Sushi train, had a short wait for green tea as the kettle hadnt boiled yet but since it was too early for the lunch rush, no probs. We ate abot 5 plates of sushi between us and they were all great! Tempura was crisp, cucumber crunchy, sauces flavoursome and ginger gingery. Highly recommended, will be eating here again. No more expensive than Sushi train Chain, but better quality IMHO.

25/12/2011Photos I was in a rush, and love sushi, so jamming 6 circular pieces of sushi down my throat is easy when you’re starving. I unconsciously go for sushi as my preferred lunch if I can’t think of anywhere else to go, so trying another new sushi bar wouldn’t hurt today. What I loved was that the Japanese chef listened to me when I requested my chicken to be heated up a little bit. I prefer my chicken a little warm rather than cold. I might be the only person who does this, but it’s how I roll with my meat. I hate cold meat. Anywhere. Their sushi is really soft and delicious, even in the late afternoon, when the whole world has already had their lunch. The only reason I didn’t rate this place higher was because I was the one and only customer there after lunch hour. They were almost closing, so I can’t blame them for my bad timing. It didn’t matter that I was one of the last customers. I will remember Michiri next time I am in Regent Arcade. Eh, next time… I need to wake up earlier to get to your sushi.

Michiru is located across from Billy Baxters and Ajisen Ramen in the Regent Arcade, Rundle Mall. It is a quiet sushi bar that is a bit pricer than Sushi Train, probably its biggest competitor on the Adelaide sushi scene, and sometimes also fails to draw customer attention, resulting in many people opting for Ajisen Ramen. I have tried Michiru a few times, and it’s really not bad. The dish that stood out for me was the spicy ramen, which blew my mind. It was really tasty. The sushi itself, on the other hand, is a bit more expensive than its worth. Additionally, there are only a few choices I would say really stood out and even then, I’ve had better. The service is excellent though, like most Japanese restaurants they really care about their customers and do everything they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I just think some of the menu items could be tastier, and the venue could be marketed a bit better. It has definite potential.
