This tidy shop with full stocks is hiding at Market Street next to an Indian restaurant, not some place I’ll specially go for, but after one visit I think I will be. For a place like this, you’ll expect something you’ve never seen, never tried or will never know if you didn’t walk in. I’m here just for some snakes once I tried at a Indian party, they were like potato chips or thin-cut fries but covered with featured spices. And I’m at the right place! They even imported Indian Lay’s chips in masala flavour. Oh Globalisation. I got all I want and even something I didn’t except — an unnoticeable dark green capsule on the counter, I’m feeling it’s a hiding gem — something you won’t know you’ll love until you tried, like Baklavas to me. The shop owner told me it’s an Indian dessert which will melt on the tongue, and it’s only $ 1, grab it for sure. Got home, tried it, love it. I was struggling with finding the accurate words to describe it until Anita cleverly brought out the word ‘fairy floss’, Yes, fairy floss! This soan cake will define the taste of fairy floss if you ever imagined. It’s fluffy yet brittle with pistachio sprinkles, and as the shop owner says, it melts on the tongue immediately and left a honey but not syrupy flavour. Once you open it, finish it all or it will be moist and lost the flossy taste. It’s so worth to spend few dollars on some snakes come all the way from overseas, like a part of everyday life in India but you can reach it right at your neighbourhood. Gee, Australia!

Most of the Indian places in Chinatown are relegated to the side streets, this place included. It’s a shame because there’s a lot on offer here. Firstly the aisles are long and very well packed. There’s a lot of stock here to look over, and there’s a lot of things you won’t find at other Indian grocers, which is to be expected. You always find something different in everyone you go to. The prices are decent, and in the hot weather I like dropping by for a mango drink from the refrigerated section. There’s also the Bollywood DVD section. I always check it out, it makes no sense to me but I like to look at foreign DVD covers. Don’t ask me why, I can’t figure it out. Regardless, when you’re in Chinatown it’s worth checking this place out for something a bit different.
