I personally do not mind HQ and it does guarantee a big night out. However, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. You either love this place or you hate it. No in between, mate. Just about everyone in Adelaide(well everyone who is around 30 years old or under) has been here at LEAST once. The line up can get get pretty ridiculous to the point you can be outside waiting for 2 hours plus and the door entrance is quite expensive($ 20 after 11pm I think) which some may not find any justification for. Its main patrons are the young and many, undoubtedly, carriers of either fake or borrowed IDs. There are also many guys who look like they’re on roids frequent this joint. The main room goes off especially if there’s a special guest DJ and expect to be either pushed or shoved or both especially on a Saturday night because as big as the main is it gets pretty packed very quickly. The main usually plays very good music and is great if you’re into electro, house and the like. Also, getting a drink thrown or dropped on to you by some idiot in this room should not be taken as a surprise. There’s also other rooms like the R&B room, a lounge and the outside beer garden but try to avoid the R&B room if you can. That place is the worst. The floors are always sticky and slippery, the room lacks ventilation, and there is far too much grinding and hooking up going in there. I get it’s a club and these things are normal but the times I have been in that room every time I look around there’s always some couple either having dry sex on the dance floor or sucking at each other’s mouths. It gets a bit too much to tolerate. In conclusion, this place is not for the faint-hearted.

Eh. It’s alright. I have only ever been on a Wednesday for flashies, mainly because i love 90s music and dressing up. Otherwise I consider HQ to be dirty, sleazy and not all together my cup of tea. I love to go out and dance without getting grinded upon, sadly i cannot do this here. Cheap drinks early on a wed are a redeeming factor… otherwise…no. It means no.

HQ is a bizzare creature. All Adelaideans are well aware of its presence and the club has become synonymous with boozy exploits and seedy parts of a night out. The main floor is almost always sticky and filled with the young(i.e.: fake ID carrying) crowd who haven’t quite figured out where to go on a night out(although Red Square is rapidly challenging this). I always find this reputation a bit frustrating as the times I’ve ended up here I’ve loved the music, but have hated the sleaze and ended up feeling uncomfortable and leaving quick smart. HQ definitely attracts the crowd I’d rather not have in my personal space and with its overpriced drinks, suspiciously sticky floors and less then professional security personnel, I’d rather get loose somewhere else…

If you’re currently in the line up for HQ, get out, before they pat you down, rummage around through your handbag and take away your chewing gum. Although I can understand why they take security to such an extent because it is filled with wankers sporting rat’s tails and brotherhood tattoos. After waiting for a year to get in just to get molested at the front of the line, the covercharge is $ 20, no sir, I’d prefer to spend that 20 on a takeaway and loiter on the steps of Macca’s drowning my sorrows. There are two main beverages here and they are Alize with lemonade and vodka lemon lime, how boring to work here in the bar. If you don’t have one of these drinks in your hand people may look at you funny, just saying. There are 10 bars to choose from to get your Alize, I recommend the Newmarket Cocktail Lounge because it’s the least sleazy area in the whole venue and if Joel is working then you’re in luck. Guys, I got so bored here that I found myself sitting at the foot of the spiral staircase playing«guess which colour underwear that chick has on» and watching girls walk up the stairs. Do you know how many girls don’t wear underwear at HQ? did their mothers teach them nothing? There are fights upon fights in this place, they usually run for a couple of minutes before the security guard who is busy chatting up the skanky blonde in the corner of the room actually notices and actually does his job. What a messed up environment. Open til 6am, ladies, remember to hold your dress when you are going up the stairs.

We live in Adelaide, not Harlem. HQ is a little too bikie ghetto-gospel for my liking. The venue is large, but the main room smells(like dirty feet) and there is also some really sleazy content here! Once known as the former Heaven, the HQ hype comes and goes. I used to visit HQ when I first turned 18 only because I wanted to go out, yet my friends and I still didn’t know where. I would say that for a predominately younger crowd this place fits best, or perhaps even for some hardcore party extremist. Luckily for some, this nightclub has been quite popular in recent times after having had a little bit of a draught. HQ is large with multiple bars, dance arenas and a decent looking beer garden. If you are someone who likes authentic club scenes with a variety of trippy Djs, then HQ might be more down your alley. However depending on your class on the night, there may also be aspects to this club that offend you. I actually know of 18 year olds who have gone home crying because of how sleazy the crowd is here. I find this quite amusing. Wednesday nights is Flashdance which is 90s trash, and people love it. Admittedly I have not been to a Flashdance for ages but I will tell you this: The line can get huge! I was never a big fan of Wednesday nights however I did see the appeal. It’s corny, old school and a bit of fun. Lastly, after some involvement with the bikies and a few underage-stabbing incidents, HQ has been under the radar with metal directors and a strict security setting in place. So make sure your fake IDs are top notch and your guns are left at home kiddies. Just playing.

Despite being one of the biggest clubs in Adelaide, HQ is one of those places that you are pre-destined to love, tolerate, or absolutely despise. Formerly known as Heaven, HQ takes up a huge block on the corner of West Terrace and North Terrace. The complex offers 4 or 5 different rooms, each themed differently with separate DJ’s who play different kinds of music. There is also a reasonably large outdoor area where all the smokers congregate. I’d recommend unless you were sweating really hard, or ok about dying from second hand smoke, to avoid it entirely. Wednesday’s is the infamous ‘Flashies’, a night dedicated to the wonderful music that is the 90’s. As a child of the 90’s, I have been the Flashies many a time and there are some good and bad things. First of all there is usually good drink specials on towards the beginning of the night which encourage people to get in early but are a good deal. On the other hand, the clientele of HQ doesn’t exceed over 24 years of age and most of them in there look like their not even old enough to drive a car, let alone get into a club. There is also the matter of the hefty door charges(I am SOOO against door charges), which they will hit you with on a Flashies night or after a certain time on a Saturday. Having said all of this, I am a fan of the 90’s so I do love the music, if its your thing head down too but perhaps take a big group so you don’t feel a million years older than anyone else there.

Pretty much the biggest nightclub in SA, HQ has almost a dozen rooms with multiple storeys and so many genres of music and DJs. HQ has events on nearly every night, with Wednesday being flashdance with old music and crazy themes like schoolgirls and vampires, Friday is usually a small event with a semi known DJ and Saturday’s the biggest one of all with big names headlining. Sunday sometimes has underage events, Monday and Tuesday are band nights when someone is in town. They always have great drink specials, which is especially good for Sat nights because it costs $ 20 to get in normally, so got to make it worthwhile. HQ has a cocktail lounge, RnB room, rooftop garden, outside smoking area and a giant main room with a huge stage and dancers. The lighting is amazing, and the stage always looks professional to suit the event/theme. My favorite is going there on Wednesday nights for a themed flashies and getting on stage dancing or air guitaring to win a prize. The crowd is fairly young, and they are fairly hard partiers too.
