Dumpling King is our go-to place to eat that is both quick and cheap. We usually share a 15 x friend dumpling plate and another dish. The range of condiments provided are great(altough I have to refrain due to allergies) My partner always loads up on chilli to dip everything in to. Theres always plenty of tables there both inside and outside too

Just based on looks and(to me, unhygienic) gut feel, this place surpassed my expectations. Dropped by on a whim and desperation(Chinatown Café was closed?!) before a gig at Her Majesty Theatre nearby, I had a pretty tasty experience. Goyza-like(steamed then pan-fried) chicken & prawn dumplings were quite delectable — I could taste the fresh ginger in the filling and the skin was not too thick. The seafood fried noodles with the pseudo seafood(fish balls, fish cakes, «crab» stick) were yummy too and had quite a bit of green veggies in it. It’s a cheap, tasty meal in very casual environment. I could tell there’s some MSG being thrown around, hence the«tasty» factor. The service was pleasant enough — smiling faces, menus given to us promptly and hot Chinese tea placed on the table(I didn’t notice if we were charged for that). I won’t take my kids here(due to msg & hygiene factor) but I can see myself having a quick & cheap bite here with mates. Order at the counter. Cash only.

My favourite dumpling place in Australia! Had lunch here back in 2010 when I just finished my medical school interview at the University of Adelaide, and instantly fell in love with their dumplings! Now five years later, their dumplings remained the same! The dumplings are round and well made, the pork mince is fresh and the fillings are generous. Their chilli oil is also quite lovely, goes great with the dumplings!

For some God only Knows reason, this place has a strong(but completely deluded) following. The House of Unholy hell spawn filth — DUMPLINGKING of Moonta Street. A friend was obsessed with this joint a while back. His judgment has been called into question ever since. From the outset, you know you’re in for a treat when the lining of the walls and grout on the floors have built up grime and despair oozing out of them. The flask on the table keeps the delightfully tasteless cistern water warm, while the tea leaves from last week beg hopelessly to be disposed of. Your waitress acts like she doesn’t understand you, but secretly, she wants to set you on fire for the tone in your voice as you repeat your order for the fourth time. What she brings you is plate upon plate of culinary bile. Everything looks like it has been scooped out of a giant rusty vat, by a broken Asian woman in a Hazmat suit, standing on a step ladder, whose eyes tell you she still owes a couple more grand to that people smuggler. Everything. The tofu looks like it was cooked by Correctional Services Industries and presented in accident form with a special kind of contempt for Customer aspirations. The Jewel in their crown, the humble Frozen Dumpling is only really edible when it is fried to within an inch of all recognition. If you can’t reheat or steam the ice off a dumpling then you should be dispatched thoroughly. The only thing going for this place is that if you feel the need to spit or vomit, it would not be noticed if you did so. The sweet thread bread though is quite likeable. DUMPLINGKING. Putting the Dump into your Dumpling experience. Four thumbs down. If you go here, you have given up. I’m Asian, the decision is final.

Dumpling King is great for what it is, cheap, fast, tasty. The spicy chicken noodle soup, the chilli beef and rice, the chicken and prawn dumplings, the chinese broccoli and oyster sauce, dumplings in chilli broth, those are my regular orders. They’ll slap the plates on to the table and they’ll charge you 60c for a take away container and a plastic bag but they’ll also sell you a bag of frozen dumplings for only $ 7. Quick and easy on a Friday night before or after your market shopping.

As a fan of dumplings I left disappointed after popping into Dumpling King for lunch. There are many other places that serve a superior dumpling. In my opinion Dumpling King is to be avoided. Not recommended.

You know that the waitresses will be grumpy. You know that you’ll be sat with someone else. You know that you’ll probably over-order and be too full. And thus lies the charm of Dumpling King. You get what you pay for and as you pay absolutely next to nothing($ 9.80 for 15 dumplings) you get the tasty tasty dumplings aaaaand not much else. Live with it and enjoy, folks.

Super disappointed with my most recent visit to Dumpling King. Having skulked around RAdelaide on many occasions previously, I knew there were few options for gastronomy on Sunday night in the City. Sundays are for snackage food, and Chinatown usually comes up trumps in that regard. For me, the steamed dumplings here have always left me sated. But this visit? Not so. Along with the usual presentation of chipped /broken crockery, teapot and condiment vessels, I was presented with a generous serve of the chicken and prawn dumplings. But even at 88c a pop, I’m going to speak up if they’re sub par. Undercooked, slippery, rubbery, there was nothing redeeming about them. Not even in the harsh fluorescent glow of the overhead lighting. Even the pots of free Chinese tea on the tables were just hot water!(I sampled from 3 tables). Come on Dumpling King. Bring yourselves back up to your former glory.

Basic restaurant and alright service but the best dumplings in Adelaide. I absolutely live this place. I usually get dumplings in chilli broth as they remains moist!

I have been a fan of this place ever since it opened. Admittedly I have a repertoire of dishes that I order(which have been consistently good) but I have loved it for that. Dumpling King is no fine dining, nor is it even really much of a café. It is a cheap eat with generous portions, incredibly student friendly. Chinese tea is free, unlimited. Their fried pork dumplings are juicy and tasty. I love having them with vinegar and their house chilli which is available on every table. The other dish I almost always order is Dan Dan Noodles which is a very spicy Sichuan pork mince mix served over noodles. It’s spicy and lipsmackingly delicious. Our other two favourites are the beef noodle soup and Pork Chop with Egg Noodles. The pork chop and beef are always tender and both soup bases are full of flavour. Pork Chop and Egg is probably my favourite out of the two because I get a braised egg(I’m a sucker for braised eggs).

Yeah I agree with most reviews, nothing fancy here but I love stopping in after browsing the Central Market. Very tasty dumplings and coupled with the Soy Sauce and Chili, wow, best dumplings in town. Quick & easy and servings are a good size. My favourite is the Chicken & Prawn.

I am a sucker for dumplings, and this is where I go when I have a mega craving! This is a basic, unfancy place but the staff are attentive and the food is enjoyable. Everytime I got here I always manage to order way more than is needed, but that means I get to take it home and eat it for a few days after! The portions are generous(each menu option could serve 2 people) and the meals are affordable. The bottomless hot green tea washes everything down and makes me feel not so guilty if I gorge on dumplings — green tea helps your metabolism right?! Dumplings of course are an essential order — I love the fried pork ones. If you’re up for a challenge then just pick a number and ask for that. You never know what you might get ;)

I fell in love the moment I walked through the doors. We have a good thing going, the King and I. Whether it be simply dumplings, or something more substantial(though the dumplings will definitely prove substantial), Dumpling King delivers. They offer pork, prawn and chicken, and vegetarian dumplings in a variety of styles — all bursting with flavour and making a great shared-dining experience. The dumplings in hot and sour soup is a must try, and if you’re looking to the other items on the menu, I highly recommend the mapo tofu. I’ll give you a little warning though: unless you like the feeling of your stomach being set on fire, do not try the Dan Dan noodles; that dish will literally tear you a new one. The prices are dirt cheap, and I’ve yet to find a place that can match their value. I once came here with two other people, and we all managed to fill our bellies for under $ 15. Though the prices have been raised since, you can still expect more than enough food for one or more persons with only a 20 dollar note. The staff are friendly, but as the place is almost always buzzing with dumpling fanatics, you may have to wait a while until you capture the attention of the one of the waitresses. However, the food is quick to arrive at the table and is certainly worth the wait. Patience is the key, my friends — you won’t be sorry.

Dumpling King. We have a love hate relationship. Mostly love, occasionally hate. The food is amazing. Make sure you get a few dishes and share with friends though, because it can be a bit boring eating one dish to yourself. I get the vegetarian dumplings every time I go. They are green… and yum. Make sure you dip them in a mixture of soy sauce and chilli, it gives them more flavour! Asian greens with oyster sauce are also great and I would suggest getting a noodle dish too. I eat too much Dumpling King as it is so good, so I blame it for the muffin top I grew over winter. Dumpling King used to be dirt cheap, but they recently put the prices up. It really is still very cheap, most dishes are under $ 15, but you know, every dollar counts! It can get extremely busy at nights. You will have to wait for a table and sometimes dumplings can take ages to come out. It is always worth it though, you very rarely get a bad meal here!

I’ve been to Dumpling King quite a few times before, and have to say it ticks all the boxes in terms of ambiance, food and service. It is located in the Chinatown strip between Gouger and Grote, closer to the Grote St side near the lion statues. It used to be a Chinese restaurant called Simon’s, I think. Anyway the space has been there for a while and Dumpling King is its third or fourth patron. The prices are extremely reasonable, but the dumplings aren’t bland. I would recommend the chicken, prawn, and steamed pork dumplings. They are among the most popular, and are filled with juicy flavoursome goodness. With spacious outdoor and indoor seating, I have never seen this place empty. There are always groups of people hanging out over dumplings. However, personally I would stick to ordering dumplings and maybe a side of greens. The other dishes or mains on the menu aren’t as brilliant. Well, it is called«Dumpling» King, after all. Order its specialties and you’ll really enjoy it here.

This place drew me in because it was packed, and it was packed with Asians, which suggests to me the food would be good. I was right. I ordered the steamed pork buns, and while the dough casing was a little dry and chewy, the filling was lovely. Looking at the dishes as they were brought out, I wished I’d ordered the steamed pork dumplings, as they looked really nice, and seemed to be the most popular dish. I’m looking forward to trying some other dishes on the menu next time I’m in the city.

If you’ve been to Raramen in Melbourne, then this place is very similar. It isn’t as packed out as Raramen, but the style of food, the ambience and cuisine is extremely similar. It’s possibly a bit better in some things on the menu, but not as good in others. The service was really very good, with the waitress that first attended to us being extremely friendly and helpful, and the girl at the register was also really very friendly and chatty, which I really liked. I ordered a special chilli beef rice, and it was really good. The meat was mostly sliced extremely finely, as were the onions. Some bits looked like they missed the knife, so there were intermittent globs of meat and onions, which took away from the rest of the dish. And some of the rice was a bit crunchy, but I still ate it all and wished I had the time to order another one. We had an entrée and the beef, plus a coke and I don’t think it cost more than $ 16. I quite liked it.
