Specialties
Peacocks, emus, and miniature horses wander through the grounds at Parrish Pioneer Ranch, the only apple stand in the area that sells hard cider (in addition to the fresh-pressed variety). After browsing the country store and candy shop, head to the wine bar where you can sample a nice selection of honey meads in addition to fruit wines made from apples, berries, pears, cherries, and rhubarb. Tastings are $ 1 to $ 1.50, depending on the variety. The ranch’s Apple Dumplin’s Restaurant, housed in the historic stock barn of the Enoch Parrish homestead, serves up rustic American dishes like barbecue tri-tip sandwich and corn on the cob; don’t miss their signature apple dumpling for dessert. The barn and neighboring 1867 Parrish house are the oldest stick-frame buildings in San Bernardino County.
History
Established in 1867.
The history of Oak Glen is fascinating and diverse. The Serrano and Cahuilla Indians harvested acorns in this fertile, lush place, and their metates can still be found in stream beds. The potato was the first crop the settlers grew; when Enoch Parrish opened this apple orchard in 1867, it created a new landscape and opened the door for other growers. The original Parrish House still stands, open for tours and includes and antique shop.
