Chula Vista Resort

Came here with my wife for a nice get away. Paid 400 dollars for a vip suite and all we had to do is see a presentation at the end of our stay. We were told our room would have an amazing view of the lake and wild life, that was a complete lie we were put on the bottom floor right by the parking lot. They gave us coupons for food and for the spa. Weren’t able to use the full amount on the food cards and were not able to use the spa since it was booked up until the day after our check out. We did not receive water park wrist bands also. We were extremely disappointed with our stay here and when it came time for the presentation we told them we will not look at it because how bad our stay was and how it was not up the to the standards we were told on the phone. Then they charged my credit card ANOTHER 454 dollars for not seeing the presentation!!! When I tried to call them and speak to a manager they would bounce me from person to person and wouldn’t let me speak directly to a manager. I left them numbers of voice mails and emails and never got any calls back. If you want to get ripped off and mislead then this is the place to go. They don’t care about what you have to say and how unhappy your stay is. As long as they get their money! I am furious with this place and I was a returning customer. Iv been here numbers of times and this is the first time they have treated me like I am a joke!!!

Interesting location. I will start off by saying we did not stay over night here — stayed at the holiday inn express 15 minutes away from this resort. *
Paid $ 30 for a wristband to get in the waterpark, kids 2 & under free.
*We also went to the KALAHARI yesterday. So I will put that into comparison.
Not as big as KALAHARI, comparing indoors. Fun kid section, if they are 3+
We were super upset that every life guard yelled at us for doing down with our life jacketed 2 year old down the kiddie slides.
Weak sauce. We only came for her to have some fun, and we couldn’t do what we did at the kalahari. Life guards are like cops here! Live a little! Lazy river was the only place my little one and I could hangout without getting whistled at! Lazy river also has little Rapids that come & go. No full wave pool.
Game room was fun — not as big as KALAHARI… No play climb place for kids.
Cool hidden resort.

I just attended a conference here and just loved this resort. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. I had a very nice view of the WI River. They cleaned the rooms quite well. The staff that cleaned the rooms were very nice and accommodating. I ate breakfast and lunch through the conference. The conference food was excellent. The conference dinner was absolutely outstanding. I also went to the café. Great panini sandwiches and Starbucks coffee are served at the café. The staff at the café provided great service. I was also able to eat a great tasting hamburger at the bar near the lobby and choose among a wide variety of beers. The service at the bar was fabulous.

Looks like someone is actually managing the page for this «Resort» and I’m somewhat shocked. I don’t know how many people are LURED to this dump because of some bullshit SCAM call from BlueGreen Vacation/​Timeshare.
I was not happy with myself of leaving my info in the hope of winning a free car, but I was plenty glad I did only left my company phone which I will soon leave. The phone got hacked like 6 times with this same number, and I finally picked it up.
Convo started friendly with «congratulations you got into the final ground of this raffle ticket.» I was like what the heck are you talking about, well apparently a YEAR ago I put down my work phone for this free car deal. Nothing sounds fishy so far.
Then the «gentleman» start to ask about Wisconsin Dells and if I have heard/​visited there. To be honest, I drove by the giant commercial board plenty times in WI and thought that was such an outdated mid-​western style of vacationing, reminded me so much about Branson. If a place needs to hammer with interstate drivers of it’s water parks beauty to attract them to visit, I see very little reason to go there.
Of course I politely said no without further commenting. He very happily introduced me to a value package at Chula Vista Resort, because this (which turned out to be infamous) Bluegreen Vacation happened to sponsor the raffle. For $ 39.99, I could get 4 ppl to come with me for a weekend gateaway (something like that) any time for the next 365 days. That guy was repeatedly babbling about how great of a deal it is, instead of thinking this is too good to be true, unfortunately he couldn’t see the person on the other side of the phone rolling her eyes thinking, I can go to fucking Vagas for price like that and actually eat legit food, not mash tater and steak (no offense to mid-​western eating but I am not going on vacation for things I get everyday).
Things started to get fishy, except the dude doesn’t know that I actually do sales myself for living. Start teasing that guy like a mouse: «Well I have a HUGE family I don’t think 4 is enough.”“Oh…Hmmm…well how about I cut you a deal you can just add $ 9.99 per person.»
I said excellent. He went on ask for my credit card before he could send me the package info. I was trying not to laugh and being rude.
«I don’t think so.» I said.
«Why not?» He was still chill at that point.
«I don’t trust you without seeing the package.» I flat out threw that in his face.
He was prob thinking what a bitXh but repeated the entire deal like a recording machine. I once again stated I am not interested. That was 20 minutes of my work of the day.
He said could you hold on for a sec and let you talk to my manager? I said sure.
Oh and guess what, the manager dude come along, did the sell exactly the same way for another 20 minutes, pressing to get my credit card info. After that I was yawning so much I said: «Hey man, I myself does sales too, so don’t try to pressure me with stuff like that.»
Apparently that had the same consequence as if I slapped him in his face: «Well lady, if you did sales, don’t you work on getting customers to buy your products?»
«Well you know,» I responded, «the kind of business I am in, if they said they don’t like it or not interested, not my job to pressure them into buying things they are gonna regret. It’s mutual interest.»
I flipped the switch, somehow. «Well let me tell you, I am following my protocol and trying to be polite to you and get you this great deal but you responded with me with excuses that you don’t want it. Why are you signing up this? Cuz you want free stuff? Well let me tell you nothing is free!!!»
I suddenly lost my shit too and didn’t let him finish his bogus, I went «Well how about you show me your protocol?»
That was kind of the end of the convo lol. I wish I would’ve gone more red neck then this…
Ladies and gents, here is a classical demonstration of high stress sales. It is typical for con-​artiest to apply on people who seeks for. Its not to my surprise that the $ 39.99 place would leads to you to this 2 and half star shit-​sort. I feel bad for people who actually fell for this cuz apparently they also force you into buying their time-​share, using exactly the same tactic. Be AWARE OF THIS SCAM!!!
Wisconsin Dells, sorry, you are forever ruined for me.

This is my first and last visit to the Dells. The resort check in is ridiculously long. After I walked away I realized the clerk forgot to give me wristbands for a party we were attending that evening. He actually told me I had to get back in line. We wound up not attending the party as we didn’t want to wait another 45 minutes. The room was dirty. Carpet had not been vacuumed and we found a hair on the pillow. Kids are running up and down the hallways at all hours.
Absolutely not worth the ridiculous price.

Always a good time. I normally go every year for a trade show in Winter. They have everything you need, decent bar and restaurants. Nice rooms, water park, work out facility. Can’t go wrong here.

It’s large, but it’s very nice. So much room that you don’t really feel crowded. A nice selection of restaurants on site makes it unnecessary to leave, unless you want to.
The rooms are clean and spacious. Can get a little loud when parents don’t parent, but for the most part things remain under control.
Staff is courteous and do a good job of keeping this entire facility running smoothly.
A lot of other things available to do besides the water park, like the 18 hole golf course that is on the property.

My friends and I took the VIP package but some of us were skeptical about the prices because it seemed almost too good to be true and well, we were concerned about the bedbugs due to last year’s issues. For the price, this place cannot be much better.
Food: ³⁄₅ VERY limited menu and steaks are good quality but they can’t cook them right
Customer Service: ⁵⁄₅ From registration to leaving, people were very nice and helpful
Cleanliness: ⁴⁄₅ bathrooms are somewhat unattended but overall, the place is taken care of
Fun: ⁴⁄₅: There are places for kids and adults, but no place to just swim during the winter.
Overall, I will be going again (at least on their off-​times during the winter when prices are insanely cheap).

Here are the good points:
The room was spacious and clean, unlike some of the other posters have noted. That’s about it.
First things first. They will try to sell you on «The Club at Chula Vista». Do NOT go for the presentation. No matter what they offer you, do not go through it. They say it is 60 – 90 minutes. More like 3 hours. They use classic car sales techniques to get you in the program. They get to know you, talk to you about what you want in the future, write down a bunch of stuff, scratch things out that they just wrote, show you the fanciest room, then bring in the «numbers» guy. They will then all of a sudden start reducing the price of the club, offer you the free upgrade to the 25 year plan, tell you the discount envelope you pulled out of the drum (mine was $ 250) almost never happens, then lower the price some more. The sales guy starts chiming in with quips like «Oh cool», or «Wow» to try and make it sound like this never happens. Like magic though, the price hits a number (ours was like $ 5,362) and he all of a sudden knows the math for the monthly payments without needing a calculator. If this is a deal that never happens, he would need a calculator to figure that out, not just yank the number out of thin air, unless he is a math wizard, which would have him in a different career other than these sales. They spend 2 hours and 55 minutes being your buddy and all interested. Once you tell them you are not interested, they want to get the heck out of there as quickly as possible. You are now yesterday’s trash.
They will also pressure you to purchase now, today, because the deal is no good tomorrow. A deal today should be a deal tomorrow.
Anyway, the hotel check in was very slow. I needed to go back to the desk three times. Each time it was very slow.
The restaurants are very over-​priced and the quality of food is not good. The breakfast buffet was terrible. The eggs were dried out and pancakes cold. Service was sub-​par. The steak I had the night before was a very nice cut of meat, with no seasoning. It was such a shame to have a nice steak cooked so poorly. It was done right as far as temperature. This isn’t about the restaurants though, so I digress.
The water park is average at best. Snack bar was terrible, and drinks were way overpriced. Many of the machines for games or using a credit card at the lockers did not work.
The price I paid for the room was okay, but I got that through groupon. If I had paid the full amount for this place I would be very angry.
The facilities overall are substandard. It is obvious that they added on to this resort every time they got money, which probably came from the bogus travel club.
Out room was in a separate building so we had to drive over to the park or we could have taken the shuttle. Our rooms had patio doors that needed extra strength to open and the front doors didn’t close correctly. The showers are not good. Very small bathroom. Hot tubs were lukewarm tubs. The lines at the waterpark were not long, but the place was kind of empty for a Sunday afternoon. I can imagine that on a busy day the lines in the water park are very long.
I most definitely will not be returning to this resort. Even if I got the rooms at the rate I got on groupon I would not be returning. My advice is to spend a little more and stay somewhere nicer that doesn’t upsell you on their exclusive BS Club membership.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the crappy mattresses in the rooms. They were really bad. The couch seemed newer, so I guess they couldn’t be bad on that. Our guest who used the pullout on the couch said it was comfortable.
The furniture in this place is cheap cheap cheap. I guess though that when you have clients like CV gets, you don’t want to invest too much in furniture because it gets roughed up.
Edit #2: I forgot also to mention that I had booked two rooms. I had to remind them that I should be entitled to two coupons, which they gave me. Then when my son and his friend went to the grill to eat, they wouldn’t honor both coupons. they said it was only one per last name. I had him go to the front desk and ask. the desk said yes it was fine, but the restaurant still wouldn’t honor it. My kids went to Kaminski’s steak house where they did honor both coupons. If I paid for two rooms, I should get to use two coupons. Stupid. And if your desk can’t communicate with the restaurant that is less than 20 yards away and tell them to stop being stupid, then you don’t have a very good method of communication and leadership in your «resort».
When you add all of these things up, they did a wonderful job of screwing up my two day get away. Thanks for nothing.

My husband and I used the VIP package as a short honeymoon trip between our wedding and moving. I gave this resort 4 stars because it was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and our package made for an awesome time.
If we didn’t have the package, we wouldn’t have gone. For about $ 300 we got water park access, two meals a day at the Kilbourn City Grill, Crash Landings, and Luigis. We also had unlimited alcohol which was the best thing EVER and what made this package so good for two newlyweds/​recent college grads.
The water park is a bit small, but float through the lazy river or sit in the hot tub, and do the slides when you feel adventurous.
I read that the place was dirty/​in disrepair, but We saw no evidence of this. Our room was clean and nice.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was that the food could be a little more tasty, but it’s free food. You get an appetizer, entrée and dessert. You can’t really complain about that.
We’re probably going back next year, but taking friends next time! Woo hoo!

Ok, here’s the deal. Get the VIP package in the winter months. This is all I’ve ever done and this is why my review reflects the rating it does. It’s a great deal and a fun little getaway for a couple nights. And once you get the hang of how things operate, it makes for a smoother visit.
The rooms are ok. We’ve upgraded a couple times and have been really happy. Stay in a room facing the river if you can, and the view is much more pleasant. As you’ve read, this isn’t the Ritz, so don’t expect it. Sometimes we do find things in disrepair, but we’ve never had major problems in 6+ stays.
Yes, if you get there right at check-​in time it can be a long miserable wait. Get there earlier than check-​in time and beat the rush. We usually shoot for at least an hour. Call in advance and ask for early check in and you might be able to get to your room earlier. If not, leave your stuff in the car a bit and have a seat at the bar, hit the waterpark, or take a book and sit by the fireplace.
The bar is where we spend a lot of our time on the all-​inclusive VIP package, and we get our money’s worth. We’ve gotten to know the bartenders throughout the years, which is really fun. They really make our trip. Get to know Will. He’s the man. He’ll go the extra mile to help you out and answer questions. The last time we checked in there was a bit of a mix-​up, and he took our info to the desk and worked it out for us.
The food: The breakfast buffet is ok. The omelette station is your best bet. The food at the bar is really quite good. We love the wings, the steak, and the pizza is fantastic. If you’re not on the VIP package, there is a happy hour at the bar with half-​price appetizers.
Take advantage of the bar in the waterpark as well (I think it’s called Margaritas), for a change of scenery. Sometimes we sit in there at the bar and never it the water.
Also take advantage of the outdoor hot tub. During the morning hours it’s closed for spa customers, but in the afternoon it opens up to resort guests. Grab a couple to-​go drinks from the bar and bring them with you.
The waterpark is fine. I’m not really into them in general, but it can be fun to take a tube down a slide after a few drinks.
One thing you might be bribed to do is sit in on a Club Membership sales pitch. If the bribe is good enough, it can be worth it, but know what you’re getting into. It could take 2 hours of your time. It can range from a pleasant but slightly uncomfortable conversation, to an annoying, aggressive and personally insulting high-​pressure sell. (I’ve only experienced the latter once.) These guys aren’t Chula employees. Don’t take it personally. Just think of the nice cold drink you’ll be having at the end. And some people join the Club and like it. Suit yourself.
Another tip for the VIP package: it tends to be slow in the fall – we’ve practically had the place to ourselves a couple times, but picks up around Christmas and will be super busy nearing spring.
So, if you are able to take advantage of the off-​season deal, and figure out how everything works, you can really have a great relaxing time.

This resort has the worst check in system possible. Waited in line for 45 minutes to be told that the room was not ready… had to go back in line once it was ready (they texted) and it took another 45 minutes to get checked in.

Just visited here for the first time with my family. Although we come just a few days before Christmas, we expected way more cars in the lot.
The resort is smaller then some of the others we have visited in the Dells. This was actually not a big problem though. The indoor water park was about 80−100k sq. ft. In size. They had the usual water attractions and my kids were pleased. Overall, the water park is geared towards smaller kids. I can’t comment about the outdoor water park portion, because we were here in December.
The restaurants were actually pretty good and the service was acceptable, altogether not exceptional. All the family members said the food tasted good and I agree. Hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold. We purchased a voucher for the breakfast buffet ahead of time for $ 8 each person. That was a good deal indeed. The buffet had a huge selection and was quite tastey.
The room we received was pretty standard. Two full size beds and a sofa sleeper. TV, mwave and SMALL fridge. Being was acceptable except we noticed that ALL the electrical outlets in the room were worn out. All the cell phone chargers we plugged in had a VERY loose feel and some did not make good electrical contact. One phone actually did not charge overnight as a result. They really need to be changed out for new ones. This is actually kind of important.
The resort is a little dated in technology too. At the front desk, they checked your account details in individual paper folders instead of electronically. We arrived early on check in day and they could only inform us of the ready room via email, instead of via text messaging. The resort is in need of a little sprucing up. It’s starting to look a bit dated, but not bad.
We purchased a voucher for snow tubing at nearby Cascade Mountain ahead of time via the Internet. When we asked for the tickets at the front desk, they were confused and actually gave us the wrong tickets to Cascade. Us being on vacation did not know any better and took the tickets. When we got to the mountain, they rejected the tickets. We had to buy new tickets there. When we returned to Chula Vista that night, everything was straightened out and we received a credit for snow tubing. All was well, but it was an inconvenience to us.
Staff ar C.V. was friendly and attentive.

I used a Groupon get away for this trip… I figured my gf and I can get a little getaway for Halloween. The drive was 3.5 hours… the hotel and resort seemed nice on the outside but that is about it. As soon as we arrived, we checked in and got some food, after that we went to our room and it was disappointing. It smelled like a old musky, moldy ass. You know how when you leave a dirty wet towel in a bathroom and you don’t clean it fora few days it has that nasty smell? Well that the case here. We were not sure if we were going to stay but we decided to take a walk to the pool. The indoor pool is kind of confusing to get to and when we got there it was nothing but kids running around and screaming. Also the place didnt seem too clean either. We decided this wasn’t the place for us and checked out about 10 mins later. So All In .I drove a total of around 7 hours to see a nasty ass hotel and resort. Avoid this place for sure.

Bugs!
They claimed it was not bed bugs that it was a bug that had gotten in from balcony doors being left open but coincidentally on the BED!!!
And outside of the balcony a bee hive… Horrible customer service not accommodating or apologetic at all !
And after looking at reviews they have had bed bugs so inspect your room if you already booked and if not I would go elsewhere.

We stayed in the condo. The room was very spacious. The room rate was reasonable. But keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Our queen sofa sleeper was an eyesore and badly damaged. The carpet was ripped and had exposed nails. It took three hours for management to finally move us into a different room and resolve the issue. However, they were full of excuses. I wouldn’t recommend this resort to my worst enemy.

Interminable lines for everything. Broken facilities like elevators, only adding to the lines and frustration. Rude staff. What does one say?
Check in at 4? Nope. Get in line to check in at four. Move five feet in 20 minutes. Get to the desk at 4:45. Room’s not ready. Oh, they’ll text us when it is. 6 o’clock rolls around. Suppose we’d better check. Hmm, the rooms ready and has been waiting for us. No text.
Want to talk to a manager? Better be ready to settle for a supervisor instead. And a rude one at that. Oh joy. Any hint of accommodation for the frustration? Come now, let’s not be silly.
Spotty, awful data connection? Well, sure. They can arrange that for ya’. Pieces of the room breaking off in your hand? Yeah, why not?
I’m beginning to believe I’d rather stay anywhere else than this place again.
You’d think with the beating this place has taken in the press lately, they’d want to insure positive feedback. I suppose not, huh?

If there was a choice for something lower than 1 star, these guys would have earned it.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! If you do, bring sanitizing wipes, Lysol, and your biohazard suit! I wish I could rate this place a negative star! Dirty dirty place! Broken furniture in the room, (if that’s what you wanna call it; more like a dungeon or jail cell) broken lamp shades, dirty walls and falling apart vanity. Not to mention, the filthy carpet, broken fridge in the room and the smell of sewer! Totally disgusting!!! I have pictures of the room that I’ll love to post as proof! Complete rip off! Rooms were nasty, food was gross, felt like we were in the ghetto! On top of the horrible rooms, the water park was in the middle of the parking lot and was out dated and pathetic! Very sad when your 6 year old daughter looks at you and says, «mommy, why are we staying at such a dirty nasty place?»

We stayed her post Memorial Day for a one night getaway and had it not been for the Groupon we bought we would have chosen somewhere else. Chula is really starting to show it’s age.
To start we had a hard time checking in because their computer system was down. After my sister and her family got checked in (I had to wait because my room was not ready) we were given directions on how to get to our room. But they forgot to mention that the parking lot they told us to park in was closed for seal coating. So after hauling all of our stuff across two parking lots we got to one of our rooms. When we got there there was no hot water. Apparently they were doing some maintenance and didn’t tell us. It was on later in the day. We were staying in the oldest building and you could tell.
Morning update: My back and neck are sore from the horribly uncomfortable beds and it’s a good thing the seal coating was our 8:00 am wake up call because there was no alarm clock in our room.
The water park is also showing age and must be one of the smallest in the Dells. There are things for the kids to do but the only thing for adults were a hot tub and the huge slides.
All in all, unless you have a good deal on Chula I would explore other options in the Dells.

Epic New Year’s Day failure at the Poolside bar. Although four TVs are simultaneously showing the Badgers play in the Outback Bowl, the bar is not open. «Someone» has been «coming» since before the game started to tend bar. #fail

I am giving Chula Vista 5 stars for the VIP package during the winter months, because I will definitely return and will recommend this to others.
We just returned from spending two nights at Chula Vista for the VIP all inclusive package. It was about $ 300 including tax for two people to stay two nights and have breakfast, dinner, and all drinks included.
We had a blast. We had 3 couples all in our early thirties, with no kids. We stayed Sunday night and Monday night, and went in the outdoor hot tub Sunday night, water park all day Monday and Tuesday morning. We visited the sports bar Sunday night and Monday night for dinner. We went to Sangria Maria’s in the water park Monday afternoon for frozen drinks. This was all amazing because everything was very empty, so we could do so much without waiting. I loved being in the empty water park, since we didn’t have to wait in any lines.
I was very worried because recent reviews have been quite negative. I was worried the water or the air in the water park was going to be cold. I was worried that the rides would be just for kids, or not working. I was worried that there would be kids in the adult only outdoor hot tub. I didn’t need to worry, everything was fine.
I thought the water and air temperature was perfect. It felt very tropical. We were very comfortable all day. Some of the lifeguards were wearing sweat pants or sweat shirts, but others were in shorts and t-​shirts. I don’t think that was any indication of anything other than their own personal preference.
The water park is great, and seems really great for all ages and abilities. There was a section for little kids, a section for medium size kids, big water slides for big kids/​adults, and a lazy river, activity pool, and hot tub for everyone. We tried everything but the little kids section, and enjoyed all of it. In the medium kids section there were a few smaller water slides that were the perfect way to ease into the water park. They were very fun, but not very scary. The adult water slides were a bit scary at first, but got more and more fun over time. The hardest part was walking up all the stairs over and over again, but it was a good workout.
The water park is far away from all of the rooms, but I don’t see any way around this. The water park is enormous, so nothing is too close to it. It added to my workout walking all over the place. It was a little strange walking around the resort, past the sports bar and reception, in my swimsuit and robe. I got over that. By the end I was walking around barefoot in my swimsuit to get back to the room. They also have a shuttle that could take you to the water park, but we never asked for that.
We had a double queen junior suite that faced the woods/​water. It had a great view! The suite was a good size, and included a balcony, small sofa with coffee table, and a table with chairs. The room was a little old looking, but was comfortable and clean. I thought it was weird that the soap was in dispensers on the wall by the sink, and in the shower. This is better for the environment and more kid friendly, so even though I didn’t really like it, it is still smart.
I was not impressed with the food, but everything else went so well that it’s okay. I will say that we got a lot of food. It would have been more convenient if lunch was included, but we just ate our leftovers from dinner for lunch. (Dinner includes quite a bit of food! The appetizers are huge, and plenty to share. Then you could take parts of the entrée and the desert to go). There were plenty of options for drinks. The drinks at Sangria Maria’s are better than the sports bar, but it closes earlier.
My plan for our next visit is to check in, get settled in to the room, go to the water park for a couple of hours, get some drinks from Sangria Maria, take the drinks to the outdoor hot tub, then when we were tired of the water get cleaned up and have dinner in the sports bar, then go to sleep. Get up the following day and spend the day in the water park and drinking at Maria Sangria’s, with a break in the middle of the day to eat leftovers for lunch in the room and take a nap, have dinner at the sports bar, go to sleep. On the last day have breakfast, pack up and check out, then go to the water park for a couple of hours before heading home.
We didn’t leave the resort at all during the 2 nights were here, and it was great. We had everything that we needed inside. This is a wonderful winter vacation!
I took a robe and beach towel, and barely used either. A t-​shirt and shorts or cover-​up would have worked just as well as the robe. We didn’t use our beach towels at all.
All of the staff throughout the resort, restaurant, bars, and water park were all very friendly and helpful. They were all amazing and helped make our vacation wonderful!
