Methow River Lodge & Cabins

PROS: The location right on the river is amazing, and the grass area outside makes it easy to sit and enjoy the river when the weather is nice.
The lodge room was super clean and comfortable with a sweet river view.
The staff at check in was friendly and efficient.
The location is a great base for all kinds of activities in Winthrop and Twisp
No CONS, it’s a nice and affordable spot!
A Suggestion to the proprietors: Stayed here in the summertime just before the fires were taking over the valley. We had a lovely time the first night, but on the second night there was a power outage. Imagine our surprise when the desk staff told the concerned guests that they were locking up and closing the office at 9pm, and leaving us all on our own in a dark hotel. Like several others, we chose to leave as they did not have battery lanterns or even flashlights in any of the rooms. My suggestion would be to place battery lanterns and flashlights in each room, as I’ve seen in many rooms in areas with power outages and storms. We ended up driving all the way back the Northern Cascades Highway in the rain that night, rather than stay in a dark hotel. Some type of discount on a return visit would have been nice for those of us that either had to leave, or stayed in the dark. Not that the outage was the lodge’s fault in any way, but not having outage supplies did cause a problem.

Rude. Would not recommend this place.

My husband and I take turns planning weekend getaways for our anniversary every year, and this year it was my turn. I had decided on Winthrop as our destination just before the fires became an issue and I crossed my fingers that things would be resolved before our trip… I’m so glad I risked it because it paid off big time. The fires were out, and we were happy to bring our business to a town that was full of small businesses that were negatively impacted and needed our support!
My first choice was a cabin, but due to the fact that I waited until early August to book for our mid-​September trip, they were no longer available. So I booked a ground floor King room instead. Honestly, I don’t think it deterred from our experience in the slightest.
Upon arrival, there were several other people checking in, and one of the owners pulled us aside to recommend restaurants and attractions while we waited. The husband/​wife duo that own and operate this spot are lovely. Our room was very clean and everything seemed like it had been updated/​remodeled pretty recently. The pedestrian bridge made walking into town super easy.
When I booked online, I must have mentioned that it was our anniversary (I don’t remember doing this, but I must have… or the owners are psychic), because there was a hand written card in our room that wished us a happy anniversary celebration. What a thoughtful touch!
My only nit-​picky criticisms (that certainly wouldn’t keep us from recommending or revisiting) is that yes, you can hear the nearby traffic. However it’s a small town so traffic is minimal. Also, the sheets on the bed were crisp to the point that they made rustling sounds when you moved around in bed. Again, very minor criticisms.
We had a great time, and if/​when we return to the area, we’ll re-​book here without hesitation.

Highly recommend! We’re staying in the lodge and it’s only 3-​years old so the rooms are spotless, spacious, and well decorated. We made a last-​minute trip to Winthrop and the more expensive hotel we wanted was full. But for about ¹⁄₃ the price we are over the moon with this place and will stay here again!
Our room overlooks the river from our very private balcony. It’s a 4-​minute walk to a new bridge that connects us to the downtown. The owners were very friendly at check-​in and made sure we knew our way around. Great service!

Immaculate, incredibly equipped and comfortable cabin with access to lots of hiking and other outdoor activity. Friendly, helpful owners who share local knowledge to plan fun, daily adventures.

It’s a shame to give this fabulous new construction 4 stars just because of a little traffic across the stream, because it is outweighed by the wonderful Cable Stayed foot bridge into town at one end & picturesque Truss vehicle bridge on the other. Lots of fun shopping, dining & libation options just a short stroll away. Rooms are immaculate, comfortable & well appointed. We opted for a 1^st floor double queen (#4) room & enjoyed the soft grassy yard & bird feeder just outside. There’s a nice trail down to the water & I used the ample beach towels for morning yoga w/​the chipmunks & red winged blackbirds. What a treasure (but a tad noisy from 10 – 6)

A delightful place to stay. The owner, Dolly, was very friendly and welcoming. The room in the main building faces the river. Even on a busy Friday night, the highway traffic was not intrusive. A half mile walk via a pedestrian bridge across the river (not to be missed) gets you to the shops and restaurants of Winthrop. The room itself was very clean, charming (lots of knotty pine), and well furnished, including a fridge and microwave. Wifi worked well.

Outstanding all around. We (2 people) stayed for two nights in the lodge and couldn’t have been happier with our experience. Room was clean, the building well built with solid construction material, and the aesthetic design was a good fit for the area.
Methow valley is an active person’s paradise year-​round, and this place is perfectly located in the heart of it all; we stayed in winter, and could walk to an ice rink, cross country ski and fat bike trails, and even into town.
The owners are really great people. AFTER we had booked, Dolly called us back to inform us that we would actually be getting a discounted rate. Rich and Jen took us on a snowmobile tour that seemed less like a tour company tour and more like family friends spending the day with us. Such a great experience.

$ 175 for a 1 bedroom cabin. Lovely place to stay. Dolly the owner was very nice and helpful. Cabin was clean and had everything needed. Felt very new. Easy short walk into town. Had wifi in the cabin and dish network and nice tv.

We stayed in Cabin 1 for one week. The cabin was very nice; however, we had planned to make several meals for ourselves and found that the kitchen was equipped with pots and pans for which the lids provided did not match. They were either extremely used or purchased at Goodwill. We made do but it was a disappointment.
The wi-​fi was sporadic and extremely slow. We mentioned this to the owner and were given the ‘router’ location excuse. If you’re going to offer wi-​fi then obtain sufficient routers.
The loft bedroom does not have any way to hang up clothes other than a coat rack. It does have a small bureau.
Additionally, the downstairs bedroom had a closet with 6 hangers. This place will sleep 6, I guess that 1 hanger per guest is the norm.
We’ve run into this hanger situation before in other locales and we’re always puzzled by this. Who knew that hangers would be so rare. We now know for our next trip to carry our own hangers.

This is a really nice place with a great location right on the river. It’s just a short stroll into town and the rooms are really nice. The owners are very friendly and maintain the property and the rooms so well it looks brand new. Definitely would stay here again and recommend this place to anyone.

We arrived very late and the owner, Dolly, could not have been more pleasant. She asked if we’d eaten and suggested places for late night eating. It was the 4^th of July weekend and she told us about many things to do in town. The room was lovely with a dining table and nice Queen size bed. The view was beautiful with the water just 100 feet away. We will be back! Thanks for everything, Dolly!

We have stayed numerous times while searching for a vacation home, brought my two kids, and the place and owners are awesome. So hospitable, have great local recommendations, and genuinely nice.

The sad thing about this, is the cabin was great! I am not a «camper», so I was happy that the cabin we stayed in was newer, with all of the amenities of home. The bad thing… the owners. They are rude, and not accommodating at all. They were argumentative and combative. I have never stayed anywhere that treated us so poorly. This sentiment was echoed by a number of the other guest we spoke to that weekend.
I have read some of the other testimonies, and they are either family members that were asked to write a glowing review of them, or these folks were having an extremely bad weekend when we were there. :-(

In brief: we didn’t stay here because Rich is a stand-​up guy.
I called MRL&C to reserve a room on a crowded weekend. They had one cancellation for Room #17. For no special reason, I’ve always thought of 17 as kind of my lucky number… since well before August 17^th became our anniversary date.
Rich was happy to accommodate us – and, of course, to fill another room — but when I mentioned we’d be making a day of it on motorcycles, he quickly mentioned that the North Cascades Highway was still closed due to mudslides.
D’oh! I had known that earlier, but assumed (without checking) that the problem had been cleaned up. Because of that timing, we probably won’t make it out there this summer, but we will make it on another, better-​planned outing.
And when we do, we will absolutely stay at the MRL&C. Thanks, Rich.

I don’t think I possess the adequate vocabulary to properly praise this place: it is simply a gem, and the finest place to stop for a few nights if you’re planning on lingering in Winthrop. Rich and Dolly really are the kind of proprietors that are far too rare in today’s travel culture, and it’s their warmth and investment in giving their guests a relaxing stay that easily adds another star or two to the clean and well-​kept quality of the property itself.
The tail end of the Methow mills by the back of the property gently, with picnic tables at the waterside and plenty of lounging chairs for guests to take advantage of; the rooms are all cozy, and – in the lazy heat of the summer evening – practically invite you to leave your patio door open, as to hear the churn of the water. We’ll be making this our go-​to for any future excursions to the area, and are already looking forward to booking a cabin during that next trip.

As my sister-​in-​law and I tried to find a place we saw all the good reviews — and they did not disappoint. As nice as the place is, the proprietors are even nicer. Dolly, Rich, and Jenny made us feel like we were family. Location in Winthrop is great — walking distance to town and right by the river.

First impression on seeing the place: rustic. The exterior of the lodge and cabins is stained wood, and the interior of our room in the lodge continued that trend. Hard-​wood floor, wooden bed frame, wooden rocking chair, etc. All this wood looked rather clean and polished as well, but some of that could be from the fact that the lodge is practically brand new — the rooms on the other half of the lodge are still under construction.
Beds were comfortable, and the rocking chair in the room especially so. The outdoor patio was a nice touch too, though we didn’t take advantage of it much due to the bugs flying around. The bathroom is a bit on the small side, and I didn’t care too much for the combined shower gel /​shampoo dispenser in the tub area, but it was functional enough.
There is wireless internet available, though over a 2 night stay I noticed that there were occasional outages such that the access points disappeared. Not too big of a deal since this was just a place to sleep after a day of exploring North Cascades NP, but could be an issue for someone who wants to get actual work done. Bandwidth-​wise, I didn’t get a chance to really test it, but I remember seeing speeds of roughly 100−150KB/s from some FTP transfers.
The proprietors of this lodge are very friendly and helpful. Their dinner recommendations roughly mirrored what we could find on Unilocal,including their mention of staying away from a place that has ~2 stars, and they were more than glad to help one of my friends figure out fishing spots nearby.
I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m wandering the North Cascades.

We stayed over 4^th of July weekend. Dolly and Rich (owners) are wonderful hosts. I cannot rave about them enough. In a fancy city hotel all the staff are international and know nothing about the local area. They are just there to «check» you in/​out of the hotel. Dolly and Rich told us how they came to Winthrop, they prior lives, etc. It was like we were one of the family. They loaned us their local hiking maps and talked to us about appropriate hiking trails for our abilities. And I don’t mean a passing conversation, Rich sat down with me for an hour and went through the trail map. And they gave us ice for our water bottles.
When we booked, I asked for a 1 bedroom, Dolly gave me the 1^st and 2^nd floor options, both overlooking the river. I picked the 2^nd floor, unbeknownst to me, it was a 1 bedroom king, plus and additional queen room. Dolly asked the next morning if we needed both rooms and I said no, we just needed the 1 king bed. She discounted our room by $ 30/​night! The furnishings were all new, very nice, and clean.
We asked for dining recommendations and they were spot on. The Mexican place in Winthrop was amazing, friendly staff, and great food.
We will certainly stay here again!

Have you ever stayed someplace where you felt like you were a personal guest? I am not talking about a place that has a really good corporate training program and every one is following it to the letter. I am talking about a place where you feel like you have been invited into someones home and they are doing everything to make you feel welcome because it’s their home and they want to share it with you.
I will give you an example. My family decided kind of last minute to take me to Winthrop for the weekend. Sadly all the cabins were booked, however they were able to accommodate us in a suite in there new hotel lodging. Since the cabins all have DVD players we just assumed that the new rooms would as well; and brought some movies with us to watch later on in the evening. Well it turns out they did not. So I asked Dolly (the owner) about it and she said she would see what she could do. Less then an half hour later Rich knocked on our door with a DVD player. Oh did I mention it was there personal player?
I can not really express how nice it is to set out on the deck with the Methow river just a couple of hundred or less (depending on flow :)) away. The cabins are very nice and fully equipped. The new hotel is equally as nice with very private decks on the upper levels. They are always kept VERY clean.
Enough of this gushing just make stay here already!
