Located in Sonoma County, California, Starr Pet Restort is situated on four beautiful acres on the outskirts of Windsor («The Gate Way to the Wine Country») and only 45 minutes north of San Francisco. We are a comfortable, clean and safe boarding facility for both dogs and cats. Starr Pet Resort offers numerous activities and amenities for furry guest, from the spoiled pet to the pet just looking for a place to hang his collar and call home for a while.

Starr Pet Resort is not your average boarding kennel; we’re an all-​around pet care facility. We offer your pet the best of the best in pet care, including large outdoor play areas, individualized attention for each pet, a highly trained staff, and modern grooming facilities.

We know that your pets are part of the family, and we make them part of our family while they’re here. Doesn’t your pet deserve the best possible care while you’re away?

History

Established in 2004.

Sandi has been in the Pet Care industry since 1986. In 1994 she and her husband Jim started their own grooming shop in Windsor. In 2004 Jim and Sandi opened Starr Kennels (previously Tukahoe Kennels for 28 years)

We strive to make this a happy and fun pet care facility for all of our furry friends.

Sandi who is originally from Wyoming started showing and training dogs when she was 14. When she moved to California in 1986 she started working at a kennel in Petaluma where she learned the art of dog grooming. SInce then she has worked at other kennels in Sonoma County. She opened her own grooming shop in 1994 in the town of Windsor with the help of her husband and family. It has always been a life long dream of Sandi’s to own her own kennel. She was lucky enough to marry a great man (Jim) who also shared her love of animals.

We love Starr Pet Resort! Everyone is so nice to our dog. The facility is clean, and heated. For an extra charge you can either get your pet a «nature walk» or «ball play». Our Beatrice isn’t really a ball chasing girl… so we usually pay the extra for her to take walks. So happy we found such a great place we can trust for our B.

Our dogs have been boarding with Jim and Sandy for many years. Every enthusiastic 5 star review here is accurate: especially the cleanliness. We love Sandi’s grooming she is a perfectionist, no other groomer makes them look as good as she does. The dogs love staying at Starr. They are never stressed out when we pick them up. They are eager to greets
Jim, who often greets and welcomes the dogs before greeting the people. Jim and Sandi have built their whole life around their business and they go above and beyond to keep their kennels clean, and filled with happy dogs. You never hear a cacophony of stressed dogs barking when you arrive. It is the only kennel we interviewed that was so quiet. We especially like that they do not have a giant free-​for-​all play period. It is way more safe for the dogs. They also let our dogs share a run which is very important to our guys well being. It gives us great peace of mind when we travel, to know that our dogs are being cared for by Jim and Sandi.

Awesome place to keep your pet. We kept our dog here for a week and we picked him up everyday. He loved it there and the people treated him very well. I highly recommend. We will definitely use again when we go to Windsor.

Just had to give a «shout out» for Starr Pet Resort.
For the past 4 years, our Sheltie, Pax, has been vacationing at
Starr Pet Resort. Every time we drive up to drop him
off, he can hardly wait to get out of the car and greet
Sandi and Jim. They are most accommodating and take good care of Pax.
Also, Pax has had the special touch in regards to Sandi’s grooming.
She makes him look like a «super star.
Highly recommend the resort. You won’t be disappointed.

We recently adopted Blackie from a shelter. Blackie is a 5-​year old miniature poodle/​schnauzer who is blind, but friendly, curious, energetic and a great fit for the family.
I had to travel and wanted to know he was going to be in a place that was safe, warm, friendly, clean and didn’t resemble the shelter where he had been staying (although the shelter was awesome as well, I knew he was still getting over the trauma). We found Starr and called Jim and Sandi and went over to look. Place is cleaner than my house! Jim and Sandi are super friendly and engaging. I brought Blackie, his bedding, toys, snacks and signed him up for an extra daily ‘nature walk’ b/​c he loves getting out and about.
When I picked him up I was a bit worried about his behavior once he was home. I had read some dogs could show you how unhappy they were you had left them. But that wasn’t the case at all. He was the same happy go lucky dog we know and love. I can’t tell you how relieved I was knowing that he was safe and comfortable while I was away.
Beautiful grounds, very very clean, heated floors, nice size kennels with indoor and outdoor areas. They take them out twice a day to a play area to let them run around and burn off energy. They have a bunch of other offerings including a ‘nature walk’. You can bring your pets bedding and toys and any other comforts from home.
I have to travel again next week and already have a spot reserved for Blackie. Love knowing he’ll be well taken care of while I’m gone.

I have left my cat on several occasions with these guys. They are the best you will find. I wouldn’t hesitate bringing my pet to them! Jim and Sandi really watch the animals and the grounds and kennels are very clean! My cat, Patrick, really likes Jim and I really appreciate the care that they give to my pet while I travel. I don’t worry at all when my pet is with them!

We got in a pinch over Christmas & New Years — waited too long to make reservations for boarding. Even though we were flying out of SLO, we were willing to drive 1.5 north to board Dix at Starr based on our past experience there. Once again, we had a great experience. They just seem to love our dog!

Left our little bichon at Starr for 6 nights this June and couldn’t be happier with the service. Of course, I can’t ask my dog how he liked it, but when I picked him up, he was clean, happy and hadn’t lost any weight. Last year, we left him at another boarder which was almost entirely indoor, and he was a mess emotionally and physically when we picked him up. What a difference it was to have access to his own personal outdoor «patio» at Starr and in addition to be taken out to a pleasant outdoor area for potty breaks. I had a good feeling when we visited the facility unannounced and found it exceptionally clean and we were even taken all around the grounds including a stop at the doggie «hotel» area. Starr is situated on several tree lined acres. Jim was personable, friendly and flexible. It was obvious that our dog had bonded with and liked Jim very much. Definitely will have our baby stay there again.

I have been bringing my pets to Starr Pet Resort, formerly Starr Kennels for several years. My dog loves being there. The nature walks are wonderful for my German Shepherd. He loves Jim who especially responds to my pet’s needs. I have recommended this facility to many people, who rave about their pets care. In my book, it rates five stars and I have never heard anything negative about this kennel or the owners. The 3 mile drive from Windsor is very scenic and restful. A current customer from Windsor.

We always take our Bernese Mountain Dog here when she can’t travel with us.
The owners are very nice, and I know our dog is being well cared for. Their dog pens are huge with indoor and outdoor access, which makes me feel better about leaving our dog. Keep up the good work!

Have had them take care of my dog a couple of times, always gets good treatment and seems to be happy afterwords. Reasonable prices, but a little out of the way of a location.
