History

Established in 2005.

The vineyard is home to winemaker David Jeffrey, his wife Marla and their three children who settled here in 2005. They did what so many dream of doing: move to California, plant a vineyard and make wine. After leaving a more traditional career on the East Coast in 2001, David moved with his family to California so he could learn the science of cultivating grapes along with the art of making wine. After returning from the 2003 harvest in Bordeaux, David scoured potential vineyard sites looking for exactly the right plot of land. Calluna’s unique positioning and microclimate allows David to craft glorious California wines made in the style of traditional Bordeaux, reminiscent of the benchmark bottles he collected and treasured during his first career on the east coast.

After 20 years of styling and collecting the wines of Bordeaux and California, David moved to the West Coast and enrolled in Fresno State’s Enology program in 2001. Determined to make his dream a reality, David spent 3 ½ years studying winemaking and grape growing as he completed his degree and worked at Château Quinault in Bordeax, France
