Specialties
The Bella Vista Ranch is a family-owned farm that grows olives, grapes and other Mediterranean style fruit and veggies. Each Fall, we harvest our 2,000 olive trees and press them immediately onsite in our modern centrifruge press. We also have a small vineyard and create boutique, Hill Country varietal wines (and even a few fruit wines!) We invite you to join one of tours throughout the year or simply stop in to visit our tasting room to learn what FRESH Texas olive oil tastes like. See our website for tour times and tasting room hours.
History
Established in 1998.
Jack and Pat Dougherty purchased a gorgeous, yet dilapidated piece of property in Wimberley, Texas that had run goats for many years. Jack wanted to plant all the fruits and vegetables that he had grown up with in Santa Clara’s fertile valleys. Olive trees were deemed «a failure crop» by the Ag Extension Agency at the time, but he gave it a try and planted 800 trees in 1998. Learning a few lessons the hard way, he has been able to successfuly grow and harvest olives as one of the first commercially producing olive orchards in Texas. Today The Bella Vista Ranch boasts over 1,500 olive trees (with 16 different varieties) and they’ve pressed olive oil every year since 2001. They’ve also established a small vineyard, seasonal gardens, a boutique winery and quaint tasting room. The Bella Vista has truly become «a beautiful view» in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
