I have stayed here a few times because the rates are cheap, and it is cleaner and better condition than most cheap motels. However, I am livid right now, so it’s probably a bad time to Unilocal. We decided to stay here for New Years Eve, so we could have a good time. Why in the world, would housekeeping bang on my door over and over again at 9am in the morning when check out is at 11? Seriously, after a night on the town, especially on New Years Day, they should know better. The check in time is between 2−3pm, so if we left at 11am it should have gave plenty of time to get the room prepped for new guests. I just think the housekeeping tries to drive people out of the room faster. I have had housekeeping knock at my door around 10:30 before at other hotels, but never at 9am. When confronted about this issue, I was told I should put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. I just thought it was common sense not to bang on someone’s door at 9am repeatedly. Not to mention their a/c was small, loud, and put out very little cold air. I haven’t had an a/c issue in other rooms, so I guess it depends on what room you get. This motel is in one single building and has smoking and non smoking rooms; however, you can smell smoke even on the non smoking level. On a high note, if you are looking for somewhere cheaper to stay close to downtown Wilmington’s party scene, it’s a taxi ride away that cost approximately $ 9, or Über drivers cost around $ 7. Just remember to use your Do Not Disturb sign!

The @Super8Hotels hotel appears nice on the outside. There is no pool at Super 8. There are 4 plastic tables set up outside in front of the hotel, along with 2 high top tables There are about 5 or 6 chairs crowded around each of the small plastic tables. That is the only place to sit and relax, or eat breakfast, no matter how hot, cold, or rainy, as there is no place to sit inside an eat. The rooms have about a 40″ flat screen. The bed is comfortable, but the entire hotel should be made non-smoking. It doesn’t matter if you request a non-smoking room or not. They wash the smoking sheets, with the non-smoking sheets, so they all come out with a smoke scent. Plus in the non-smoking room, there are cigarette burns on all of the sheets. Enough burn holes that the sheets should have been thrown away. The heat didn’t really work in the room. I noticed that the previous tenant had the heat maxed out at 80. You would think that with the heat set on 80 the room would be pretty toasty, well, it was not. It was still cool in the room. When I took a shower, I am not sure if they were doing laundry then, or if the hot water heater didn’t work. Even after letting the water run for several minutes before I got in, it still didn’t get better than lukewarm, so a quick in and out was all I could stand. There was a hole in the wall, and the bathroom sink was badly cracked and needed replacing a year or two ago. There were stains on the carpet, but aren’t there stains on the carpet in most hotels. As far as room amenities, in the single room with a comfortable queen size bed, there was a sleeper sofa, safe, microwave, mini fridge, television, desk, and free WiFi. When I set on the couch I sunk too low, and had to move to the desk chair. Overall, it was a tolerable visit if you are going to stay one night, and get up and leave the next morning, but would not be on my top choices of places to stay. If you are the type to spend a lot of awake time in the hotel, maybe another hotel would suit you better. But it is cheap if you are on a really tight budget. #366

My expectations weren’t very high for this stay so there was plenty of room to impress me. This room was booked for me to attend an event so I didn’t book it myself. Upon check in, there was only one person working the front desk. It took some time. As we were walking to our room, there was a haze of pot smoke in the hallway and we heard people having very loud sex in the next room. We had the same experience later in the night when we returned to our room. The room was tiny and the air conditioner sounded like a tractor trailer was in our room. All night, I had to keep getting up because I was either too hot from turning the air conditioner off or I just couldn’t sleep because when I turned it back on, it was way too loud to sleep next to. All in all, the experience felt dirty and very uncomfortable. I struggle to find positive things to report about this experience. Let’s see; the location was only about a 10 minute drive from downtown Wilmington.

For a low budget, this hotel is actually not that bad. It’s a little out dated from out side perspective, but once you get into a room, it’s very nice. Staff was very friendly and customer caring.

It’s great, clean and pretty close to everything. A great place to stay when you don’t want to pay over hundred for a hotel.

Chose to book a room online & stay here on Friday night during Azalea Fest for a few reasons: 1) we’ve stayed in a few Super 8’s and never been disappointed when it comes to the price/value compared to other nearby chain hotels 2) the rooms are usually clean regardless of location 3) the Wilmington location on Market St is just a quick drive/cheap cab ride to downtown 3) during Azalea Fest in Wilmington, most places require a 2 night minimum or increase their rates significantly, making normally affordable hotels out of reach for many of us. Unfortunately, upon check-in, I got annoyed. There was only one employee working behind the desk and since the lady in front of us reserved FOUR rooms on at least a couple of different credit cards, we waited at least 20 minutes to get keys for a room we had already reserved online. And since we were pressed for time, and trying to get to a show, I was running low on patience. So here’s a suggestion Super 8, if you ever read this – if the only rooms you have left for the weekend are single bed smoking rooms & it’s a «holiday» weekend in town, maybe you should hire an extra person to help at the front desk as well as having more than one computer accessible at all times for reservations, so you can actually check in more than one guest at a time. Not to mention the fact that the phone was ringing the entire time we were waiting so he was constantly interrupted by answering the phone. And here’s my last complaint– other than the orange juice machine, the complimentary continental breakfast was completely gone when I went downstairs at 9:30. I did think the outdoor patio was a nice touch, even though the music they have piped in is terrible. It was like a bad Kesha pandora station. Also, making a left into or out of the parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. But, with all that being said, considering the close proximity to downtown, cleanliness of the room, and affordable price, we will probably stay here again. And maybe next time, I’ll make it downstairs before they put away the coffee and waffle maker.
